Yes, I've had my eye on this model for quite some time now, except that I'm leaning more toward the version with the blue dial. Beautiful watch. You're right about versatility, though I think it was designed for special and/or formal occasions. The watch is like a work of art, or beautiful poetry: these are rarefied, certainly not meant to be shown at just any time.
so even with the metal band, you wouldn't consider it to be "play" but just "work"? I guess it can't do both well like the aqua terra can? the reason being is, I already have a 2000$ hamilton jazzmaster maestro so I've got "work" covered i.e. dress done. so my next luxury watch would be either a "play" watch like a diver or something that can pull off both work and play like the new omega aqua terra series of colors. These new ones are basically a one-watch watch collection. I thought the DeVille with the metal band could do the one-watch watch collection type thing, but maybe its 100% dress and 0% play? on a different note ever, i've seen some watch collections advocate for work, rest, and play so a 3 watch watch collection. so could this fit "rest"? like the metal band version, would it be something for a coffee shop, groceries, working from home, just activities during the day, to relax, maybe catching a movie or going to the mall. Play for me is like by the pool on vacation, at a restaurant or pub etc.
I own this watch with the two-zone silver dial for a few years now and did not notice the mirror finished rehault till you mentioned it. Would like to see your opinion on the two-zone silver dial version and perhaps the Mido Baroncelli Big date as a dress watch contender

My favorite Omega. I know the speed master probably outsold it 20 to 1 but this watch is unique.
