This is what happened recently here in the Mid North Coast - NSW Nationals MP Leslie Williams has quit the party in disgust and will join the Liberals, saying she could not condone the reckless and unreasonable behaviour demonstrated over the past week.
Ms Williams decided to switch teams after witnessing leader John Barilaro's handling of the koala policy stoush last week where he threatened to move the party to the crossbench if their demands weren't met.
Keep up the pressure as it is obviously working. :)

Port Macquarie’s koala hospital is a major tourist attraction and I was just informed today that our nationals member who was elected in has jumped ship to labour (revised edit:turns out she left to join the Libs, that’s what I get for not fact checking my mate 🤦🏻♂️😅). Guess she doesn’t support (revised edit: doesn’t support Mario Bros only supports) #KoalaKiller 😂. The people of Port Macquarie’s electorate voted in the nationals with the promise of a tidal pool. Since then we got hit with the fires, had the state government trying to kill a major tourist attraction and prevent job seekers holding pension cards from coming to the area to spend their bonuses by allowing CountryLink to refuse to book the 4 free tickets anyone with a pension cards gets each year. Those tickets have their costs pre allocated at tax payers expense and now that tax money is just sitting there instead of being used to boost domestic tourism in a town that voted for them, where the largest industry is tourism, just so that the government funded service of CountryLink can turn a profit on ticket sales. You should really look into Port Macquarie. There is some really interesting stuff happening here.

Something that helps with the #koalakiller thing is that you are speaking to values - something the Liberals appear to be very clever with and that the Labor party has looked historically average at. Labor speaks the language of facts, but unfortunately lay people are god awful at voting for facts. People on the whole don't do well at absorbing them, even if they're glaringly true and obvious. They seem to absorb and vote for values, like preserve our economic status, stability etc etc. No amount of facts can get at them. Speak to their values on the other hand and you have a different matter altogether, Ie we value koalas being alive, and don't value that someone is killing them, we value our politicians not lying to us and gaining unfair advantage at the cost of the lives of wildlife and the health of citizens. Values trump facts when it comes to votership, hence "Make America great again" working so catastrophically well. Thats also I suspect why the #SuperBarilaroBruz #johnbarilaro thing has hit so hard, because they Liberal party cant possibly be seen to be unstable, to have a corrupt link in their 'economically people minded' bullshit. It goes against their carefully crafted public perception of their values, which hurts them. Great work FJ team. I am so grateful that your team is using your expertise and forum to aid in changing this shit.

Native vegetation clearing regulations (Clause 52.17 of the Victorian Planning Provisions) here in Vic, are a load of dog shit. I work within this industry and deal with Clause 52.17 on a daily basis. When a developer proposes to remove native vegetation, it must be offset "To ensure that there is no net loss to biodiversity as a result of the removal, destruction or lopping of native vegetation" this can be done via a third party broker, whereby you engage an offset broker, pay a fee relative to the amount of habitat units lost as result of native vegetation removal or; you can choose as the developer to first party offset, whereby you re-vegetate or manage an area of native vegetation on your own land.
Local councils do not like first party offsetting because their environmental teams are so under resourced, first party offsetting basically cannot be policed at a local level and that first party offset area needs to be protected forever. So you end up with wealthy developers just paying their way through clause 52.17 and basically being allowed to remove native vegetation because someone is now protecting an area of native vegetation somewhere else that already exists and was probably protected anyway.
I am yet to see a single proposal denied by planning due to excessive native vegetation removal.
