Kings Dominion Will Be Screwed Over For 5 More Years

- Kings Dominion has announced their 2022 roller coaster, a 4D freespin known as Tumbili. Now we've known about this for over a year that they were getting a freespin. But what we're still waiting on is the future replacement for Volcano the Blast Coaster. One of the best roller coasters at Kings Dominion until it closed in 2018. Now the park has a hole in its lineup with only two major thrill rides. That being Intimidation 305 and Twisted Timbers. Cedar Fair has neglected this amusement park for years so it's unclear when their next coaster will be. And if it will be a worthy replacement to this unique Intamin launch coaster. Until we hear from the park on future development. For now, all we can do is speculate and wait.

I’m super bummed that they tore down volcano. My dad did the crane work on it, so it will always be a sentimental ride to me. I just wish I could have ridden it one more time since his passing.
I miss that ride too as it was one of my favorites….

I think either a B&M launched wing coaster or a Mack Rides Hyper coaster would work perfectly.
A B&M wing coaster would be a embarrassment imo.
All the Cedar Fair parks could use a West Coast Racers type of ride

A Vekoma shockwave or een one of the other big lauchers from Vekoma also a Flying from Vekoma is an Option !
Originally Batwing was supposed to go to KD in 2001 but they canceled it due to the prototype being a disappointment and added hypersonic as an equally problematic replacement instead it looks like volcano's site will be used as theming for the new area rather than a future attraction.
Don't forget that Kings Dominion is also going to have to replace Anaconda before too long, I can't imagine that ride has many years left in it either. They have more space to build a coaster over there by the water, So they might want to save money and make that the bigger investment. (It's a long shot, but my hope is that they would build an B&M on the scale of Fury 325, something that could live up to what they were hoping to accomplish with I305, and that could throw down the gauntlet at BG by being 100ft taller than Apollo's Chariot, who have really been catching up to Kings Dominion in coasters lately.)
I think it could be a mack extreme spinner, s&s axis, s&s 4d, gerstlauer, or vekoma blitz. Then they could put a b&m wing or flyer on anacondas plot of land over lake charles later down the road.
Here’s the issue with most parks going forward unless it’s been annonced or paid for. Like KD free spin or Six flags rides. It’s gonna be a few years. Now this season has helped a lot of parks and chains get there money back but I don’t see big hyper or giga going in. I can see at most more RMC type remodeling like twisted Timbers or Storm chaser something like that.
Based on the new theming in Jungle X-pedition it seems highly likely that the wing coaster concept will come to fruition. There are five animals reperesented in the theming: Spider, Monkey, Crocodile, Large Bird, and Large Jungle Cat. If it does I hope that it weaves in and out of a structure similar to the way volcano did. This seems to be the most plausible scenario and I anticipate 2024 for the opening.
They have to have some Inverted coaster . They'll probably do something along the lines of most launches with in an inverted roller coaster

We went to KD a 10/23 week ago today. Tumbili looks amazing from all angles in the parks skyline and fits in really well with the Jungle Xpedition themeing. As for all the comments about Anaconda, I dont know what they did to that old rickety beast, but it rode the smoothest it has in 20+ years. I was expecting a beating like usual but was pleasantly surprised. As for replacing Volcano; as much as I don't want you to be true(which, you are right, it is totally possible it will take that long) I don't think it will be the usual case that we have seen with KD over the years some Cedar Fair acquired the park. Main reason behind my thought is SeaWorld Parks have been struggling, just a little, to raise their profits and attendance since the pandemic shut downs. I've grown up in VA all my life and I've never seen KD's main competition Busch Gardens install so many Coasters in such little time. As well as announcing their new indoor family coaster for 2023 at BG. I feel as if KD drags their feet they will be pushed aside and see a loss of attention and attendance to is 1 hr away, down the road, competition. I agree and hope they put as much planning and effort into the replacement as they have with the rest of the retheming. To be honest, I just miss seeing the mountain in the skyline also, would be amazing if the new replacement had an updated version of the mountain incorporated with the ride.
Call me crazy, call me old school, but to have a Dueling Dragons style coaster would fit both theme and thrill level - predator vs prey and just go all out. Is it a pipe dream? Yes. Would I still enjoy it? Also yes.

Maybe I'm being overly positive (KD and BGW are my home parks) but I think we see Volcano's replacement in 2025.
As for what it will be, I'm not sure. Was never a fan of the B&M wing coaster ideas that have been floating out there for the past several years. I'd prefer another launch coaster, maybe from Mack, Vekoma, or Gerstlauer-- whoever is Cedar Fair's preferred manufacturer. I rode Copperhead Strike last summer and it was much better than I was expecting. Something like that would be nice, but I have a feeling the price would be too high.

I think B&M and CF should try something wild - a launched B&M invert!
I would be different enough to Alpengeist, they could even try to somewhat replicate that unique first inversion Volcano had... I think it would be awesome, but I doubt that it will really happen, since those chains rarely re-create something old and also since B&M never built another coaster with an LSM launch (as far as I know) since Thunderbird.
A Kärnan-style Gerstlauer infinity would also be cool, but I think they have the "tall and intense"-category already cornered with I305.
Lol it's not supposed to be some made up word to seem like tumble. It's in their safari section and so they used an african sort of theme. Tumbili is Swahili for monkey and is pronounced like tomb-bee-lee.
Also, Im right there with ya with volcano. I wish I wouldve had a chance to ride! My first visit was spring 2018, so I arrived probably a couple weeks too late to ride it.. except I knew about it since i was a little kid :o

My idea is crazy but awesome. What about a B&M wing launch strata coaster? They could do the launch and everything with a bit of the land extra towards volcano and a design with 3 loops and 6,108 feet of track would cost a total of 19 million dollars. (Keep in mind they paid 25 million dollars for intimidator 305).
Yeah, that would cost ALOT more then 19 million.

That B&M wing coaster was NEVER going to happen in the first place and was just some overambitious fanboy's wish list item to replace volcano with and with the free spin coaster being installed it's NEVER going to happen as the two products are essentially the SAME seating type which would make no sense to have two of them in one park.

Kings Dominion seriously needs to buy some dam good ''HIGH, REAL FAST, CRAZY LENGTHY ROLLER COASTERTS Like the one In CEDAR POINT OHIO STEEL VENGEANCE!!!!!!!! They need stand up coasters, ones like the big bad Wolf, Etc. This crap that I'm seeing Is a waist of their money? So they are In Trouble!!!!!

It sucks but I think Cedar Fair will have many off years and I don't think 2023 will be all that either. Cedar Fair took a massive hit financially and I think their focus for a few years is general park improvements and recover to pre covid finances. I don't think parks need a coaster to driver attendance right now for a few years.
There is no "off year" by any means. Cedar Fair is still spending like $200 million+ in 2022. It's just they are putting all that money into other things like the resort renovations in Sandusky which cost lots of money to renovate, the new sports arena/complexes which cost millions to build, and as well as dining upgrades and special events/anniversary celebrations for next season.
@@bigblueamusementproductions I know that by off year I'm saying no major rides. Those new additions will make money for sure. I'm saying don't expect a world record coaster anytime soon.
All chains took a hit in 2020. Cedar Fair is back at prepandemic Capex for 2022 Calendar Year. They are spending 50-75M Q3+Q4 2021, Spending 175-200M Q1thru Q4 2022. Part of the 2022 calendar year spending will be for things in 2023 operating year. The amount spent Q3+ Q4 gives some insight into the next years offering as that's when they procure & start projects. Also, they are doing essentially all their hotel/resort renovations in 2021 & early 2022. Sawmill Creek(25M upgrade) & Castaways(no cost given) started earlier in 2021, Knotts is coming up, Schlittebahn has been getting upgrades in increments since they bought it in 2018(total upgrade costs were supposed to be 20M). Also, the one CF runs thing there is core Capex which is in park rides, attractions, restaurants, maintenance,,,which is about 10% of gross revenue, they reiterated that is their plan going forward. The off site, hotels, etc...are above that & run 35 to 60M normally. CF longterm plan is to spread coasters every 4 to 5 yrs, have a bunch of special events & festivals at each park, & improve food offerings(hence essentially a Harmony Hall like thing going in at Wonderland, CP, KD, also getting new restaurants), Expect coaster at CP in 2023, probably Knotts & maybe CGA. CP & KB b/c they are the 2 biggest producers & both are getting hotel renovations. CF has been following up hotel renovations with coasters to drive bed stays. Did it with Breakers renovation (Valryvn) & than Breakers new wing 2 yrs later(Steel Vengeance), did it with Carowinds new hotel(Copperhead).

Wow another KD video of their fans complaining.... KD gets a lot for where they're at in the CF chain. Want to help KD get more investments by CF? How about make a video on what KD should do, or what their fans should do in helping them. Also it wouldn't hurt not voting D anymore.

All they get are kiddie rides or waterpark rides because these are inexpensive compared to a new coaster.
