You are the first painter I have seen that shows your mistakes and then explain what to do about it! This is very valuable information to get and understand, thank you 🙏
The way you can discuss mistakes and weaknesses in your painting dispassionately is so impressive. I think that's the key to growth, you will never let them keep you in a comfortable place, doing the same thing over and over, because you fear the outcome of experimentation.
Yes! And I think the key for me is that there's only dispassionate observation of the plan VS the result. And then the gaps are closed, and that's it - no biggie (:
Poor Liron! 5 washes and dissatisfied! I love your analysis of your dissatisfaction and attempts to fix it.Thanks for letting us in on the process - we are learning from you. I taught other professionals in my field (psychology) and nothing worked better than pointing out our mistakes, and how we worked them through.
I found the opaque layers so daring. It’s as though the freedom of creating is the most enjoyable part of watercolor, not all the rules in the back of one’s mind. Thank you for helping me understand that loosening up is a worthy goal.😊
Would you never attempt to lift out color? I love the way you paint all in one go, I will always watch you, it’s a very brave technique. I know my values today in watercolors because of you, Liron. Yesterday marked my 2-year anniversary with a paintbrush. And I feel so blessed to be following you and your ability to talk us through your Muse. ❤
Liron .I would never be interested in this subject in my art but after your narrative I'm totally convinced that this is excellent subject to learn.thank you dir being so honest in your explanation
This is exactly what I need to see from you Liron. I just had a breakthrough like this the other day because I was making a painting and I realize wow it was going so well but then I noticed I screwed up when it came to the dimension of the cows I was painting I made one too dark and now I have to figure out how not to do that in the next painting please feel free to make more discoveries of mistakes so that we can feel less inadequate. 😅
Interesting demo. Opaque paints don't seem to play well with multiple layers, at least in my experience, especially the opaques with white. Maybe dry brushing titanium white over the building after it completely dries? I'm with you on exploring and experimenting so I thoroughly enjoyed watching your process.
I completely agree with you Paula. I've experimented a lot with designers white gouache and after a few layers it's not a good look. I think the dry brush white titanium is an excellent idea, so thank you😊
We've all been there. Seen something we don't like in a painting and kept going back trying to correct it and ended up with something well below our usual standards. It's good to see that you're human and have similar problems, even if your clunkers are better than our masterpieces. One thing I will say, though, that you don't mention in the video is that you didn’t fall into the trap of having too much detail everywhere. When you added details to the further buildings, I was fearing the worst but you kept the closer building looser and out of focus. Would have been very easy to add a similar amount of detail to that closer building and ruin things. The eye can focus on close stuff or distant stuff but not both at the same time, so the close and the distant stuff in the painting shouldn’t both be in focus. Hope you and the family have a happy and safe 2024.
Thank you Steve 🙏😊 Indeed, I've been trained by fire, so it's hard for me to overwork by adding too many details or ruining the focus. If anything, I naturally err on the side of too few details because I like that "open for interpretation" look. Wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful year ♥
My problem is not going dark enough. It makes the lights look like they're supposed to. I've been too timid. Anyway, thank you for that sky lesson! Just what I needed!
Last few minutes of this video you said at 21:12..i" if you start noticing, that solves issues automatically" ...this is a spiritual quote for me by osho! 😅 Yes ..in life too if one notices himself some issue...half the problem is solved! Just going in another tangent ..haha😅
I think the colors look fine. What's missing , I suspect, is that during the process of 'going for it', a lot of the depth dimension got flattened because everything in front and back is in the same shade intensity, which makes them look more like theyre side by side, rather than one closer/one further back. Even the reference photo looks kinda 2-d if you look at it. But seriously, if I could choose my colors with the speed and accuracy you are, Id be a happier painter.
Liron ..try one painting only with Gouache...that would help maybe to get idea of handling opaque..when I mix watercolour and opaque white I always felt saturation is affected very badly
I’m learning about my paints with coaching from Hazel Soan. Fabulous stuff to understand. She is having us understand all of our pigments: transparent, semi transparent, semi opaque and opaque, and how they react with each other. The word you were looking for is terra cotta pots or planters.
I was having that trouble last night. Too purple not enough orange. Using Daniel Smith. I think maybe the blues are just more aggressive. Have to add more yellow and less blue next time I think?
Thank you 🙏 Could be many things, sometimes it's the paper's quality that doesn't allow glazing, so your new layer ends up awakening the previous layer and everything mixes together. Other times it could be mixing too many colors together, or choosing colors that don't work as well. Here is a video that may help with that: ruclips.net/video/W0bQwVm4fAE/видео.html
The course is around 4 hours and 20 minutes long, with 26 lessons. There’s also a bonus lesson of ~20 minutes As for how far it can take you - that really will depend on you and your level of immersion (: But the way I structured it was that, information wise, it has everything necessary for finding freedom and letting go
How do you make your paper not to get curved Liron since you are also not using a masking tape in this example. Is it due to the weight of the paper or is there any other methods to do so? Thank you so much.
I'm using a 300 gsm paper, so it definitely buckles a bit. But I find it simply doesn't bother me as much (: If I let it naturaly dry, it tends to stretch back and be relatively flat. One of the issues with buckled paper is how the hills and valleys can lead to some areas drying slower and creating undesired effects. But I easily solve this by physically holding the paper and tilting it however I want, helping the paint move. Hope that helps (:
It's a Michael Solovyev signature brush. You can get it in this set: amzn.to/3RQv2KF not sure if you can also find it standalone (there are similar looking ones, but may be not the same quality...)
You are the first painter I have seen that shows your mistakes and then explain what to do about it! This is very valuable information to get and understand, thank you 🙏
Thank you 🙏😊 So happy these help as well.
I make plenty of mistakes still - so more to come 😂🎨

I love it!I think there might be better ways to use them than I have here, and looking forward to exploring these 😁
I have purchased Liron’s watercolor class and it is very useful. I watch it many times so it’s always mine to learn from 🎉, I HIGHLY recommend it !
Thank you so much ☺🙏
Thank you@@LironYan for the valuable information 🥰🎊and I apologize for misspelling your name so much 😏.
Great tutorial with honesty and good advice. You do great work by the way. We never stop learning do we.
Sooo relatable! The way you tackle both technique and the emotion of painting struggles is extremely helpful! Thanks, Liron!
Thank you Connie 🙏
Your topics of discussion are spot on❤
Would you never attempt to lift out color?

As for lifting - yeah, I probably should have done that instead haha 😅

This painting is so beautiful. I love your style and appreciate your videos a lot. Thank you for sharing your insights, it really does help.
As always I learn a lot from you ! Love how it turned out. Will try your sky tip - think that’s what I have been doing wrong. 🙏
🙏😊
A Happy & Peaceful New Year, Liron. Always a pleasure watching you paint. Would you ever consider doing a live watercolour portrait of yourself?
Thank you so much! 🙏😊
Yes - I could definitely try and do that. Very interesting idea
Happy New Year! Thanks for the instructional post. Hindsight is 20-20.
Happy new year! 🥳 Indeed

Indeed seems that way (:
I definitely learned something new today
Great video! And congrats for getting a mention of fave RUclips watercolor artists by Jenna Rainey.
Thank you 🙏😊 Many have let me know she shouted out the channel
Thanks for this 😊
I’d love to see your shingles video. Do you have a link to it?
Thank you 🙏🙏 I haven't filmed that process.
But I have discussed the painting itself here:

Yes - that sounds quite familiar to me! (:
I no longer fear going too dark, but that means I sometimes tend to forget and over darken some areas 😅
Last few minutes of this video you said at 21:12..i" if you start noticing, that solves issues automatically" ...this is a spiritual quote for me by osho! 😅 Yes ..in life too if one notices himself some issue...half the problem is solved! Just going in another tangent ..haha😅

Great video. When i try this, adding more layers, it just looks muddy. Your painting still looks fresh. What's the difference?
Thank you 🙏

Liron what is your insight on the Palestine Israel Conflict?
How far can the frustration free water color course take you in understanding watercolor? And how long is the course in hours?

There’s also a bonus lesson of ~20 minutes
As for how far it can take you - that really will depend on you and your level of immersion (:

For me just tad yellow ochre Gouache one coat..would stand out .the front building...in my mind...may not be correct ..guessing?🙄🤔

@@LironYan Thank you so much. This definitely answers my question. ❤️
How about lifting and lightning the front building if it's too dark in value?
Another thing I should have probably done and completely forgot was possible 😅
You don't use too much red. Yellow pigments are weak and undeserving! It's all about perspective 😂
Oh, I see now, that makes so much more sense 😂😂 I was right all along!
Many indian watercolor artists uses opaque colors......
Will have a look (: I remember a few Indian artists who when I saw their paintings I thought to myself - that must be opaque paint!
Where do i get that brush that looks like andine flute?
It's a Michael Solovyev signature brush.
You can get it in this set:
amzn.to/3RQv2KF
not sure if you can also find it standalone (there are similar looking ones, but may be not the same quality...)
@@LironYan thank you Liron
Hi @LironYan, don’t know if you’ve heard, you’ve got a shout out from Jenna Rainey in her 2024 Best watercolour channels video :)
Thank you so much! A few people mentioned that, super grateful 🙏😊
