Having just watched the last three services on line as I have been out of town, I just want to say how proud I am of Restore Austin! These three guest speakers were amazing and their messages were so powerful ! I am so grateful to be a member of this remarkable church!

i rarely listen to people who've never been chronically homeless, talk about homelessness. kevin is one of those exceptions.
i grew up in an extremely abusive environment which meant housing security wasn't my thing. as an adult i had to voluntarily go to a homeless shelter with my two young kids because protecting them from my mom meant going no contact with my entire family, who were all of my housing options.
my kids entire childhoods were homeless, homeless adjacent or extremely housing insecure.
everything laid down in this sermon was correct.
the ideas were especially valuable as foundational ingredients; necessary but not only
    i would add one thing.
    urgency.
the church (big c) never wants to tackle homelessness with urgency. it's one of those things that christian's are more than happy to ignore and let god fix in the next life. eternity is the perfect excuse for inaction.
imagine showing up to an emergency room in clear need of blood products and being told not to worry, what god doesn't provide in this life, he'll make up for in the next as you're ushered out the door.
the homeless should be housed with all of the same care and timeliness that each of you want from your medical teams.
thank you again, kevin. brilliant, brilliant, words.

Thanks for this beautiful message of community and caring. I think one important thing about this message and this scripture is that Jesus Christ says, "Why are you bothering this woman? The poor will always be with you, but you will not always have me. When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for my burial. " In essence, Christ knows he will be crucified and will not be in bodily form on this earth as he was then. We should cherish, love, honor and respect him, because he will soon sacrifice everything for all the people of the world. There will always be rich, poor, men, women, children, etc... but his life as they know him will soon be finished as he is crucified as prophesied. All throughout the Bible it is about loving and caring for others and God. In this scripture he is making a statement that the poor will always be here but honor this moment with Christ because he will not be. Thanks for letting me share my thoughts, and yes let us care for each other in his name and the sacrifice he made for us. Thank God that he is still with us in spirit, and so much more. Amen
