Great information Mike thanks for sharing. I'm not sure if you've hear of this little trick but I wipe all my visors with a clean dryer sheet, it reduces the static and I tend to get less dust collecting on the visor .
Thanks for the tip Casper much appreciated.
Great information again Mike. It's the next thing on my list. Might get some odd looks wearing it in the supermarket though. lol. 😊
Thanks Alf and a big 😂😂😂😂
A good review Mike ,I have had the older model for four years now and its still going strong and no hesitation in getting another if this one claps out
Cheers, Bram
Glad you agree Bram 🙂
I have one & so happy with it the noise is so quite as you said the fogging you get when wearing glass's you don't get with this mask worth the money
Regards
Steve UK London
Glad you're happy with Steve.
Bummer these weren't promoted more in the U.S. and elsewhere for the COVID. Guessing there is like a PAPR cartel or something. Seems the trend might have increased volume and helped pushed the price point down even more or allowed more competition to enter the market at the least provide more capital to fund more market expansion capabilities. Something open source or even for sale like this design, which seems well balanced, with the 3M 6000/7000 or whatever you call that more common 3M cartridge connector or a NATO 40mm style connector would be awesome!
Some very valid points made. Cheers. Mike
Thank you for the review Mike. Really helpful.
WOW that looks and feels good. I think I will buy one.
You'll not regret it Manjit.
Good review buddy, wouldnt be without my powercap!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Thanks Alan.
I have seen elsewhere that the APF10's protection rating TH1P means that it is not adequate for maching of hardwoods (or mdf).
The cost of extra (or spare) battery packs is also crazy.
Hi Neil, I have found no problem with the system in the seven odd years I have used it. As I stated in the video, the respirstor should be used with an adequate extraction system at the point of dust generation, and air filtration in the ceiling too if possible.
Thank you for your thoughts and watching.
Mike, Thanks for the reply. Probably good enough for a hobby user like me then. 👍
Just wanted to check back in with you on the Axeminster Respirator. I've used a TREND Air Pro for several years now and though a significant improvement over my paper respirator, it's starting to show it's age and may need replacing later this year. As you've been using the Axeminster for some months now, how would you rate it 'now' when compared to the Trend? thanks...j
Hi John, I have used this respirator for over nine years now. Although the Trend has higher protection in a stand alone scenario, in conjunction with good extraction, and air filtration I have never had problems. It is also much more comfortable to wear. Let me know what you decide.
Cheers
Mike
@@MikeWaldt Thank you very much for the feedback. Regardless of which unit you choose, they're all so expensive you really want to make the right decision the first time. Cheers...j
I watch your videos and the videos of the live streaming, and thoroughly enjoy them. With reference to the Axminster apf10 that I was considering buying after watching your review. But on reading further into this it appears that it doesn't protect the wearer when using hardwoods or mdf. This was a little disconcerting as many woodturners work with hardwoods. May I ask your thoughts on this situation, that Axminster are actually aware of.
If I was to spend around £250 on one it aught to protect me from the dust created with hardwoods.
All I can say is that in conjunction with good dust extraction at the point of generation, and an air filtration system, I have had no issues over the last eight years of using it Richard.
@@MikeWaldt OK, many thanks for your comment. I've just ordered it today. I too wear glasses and have always had the problem of them fogging up, and creating a different potential hazard when working in the workshop. Merry Christmas.
Just my opinion, but I hope it helps. Let me know how you get on with it Richard.
@@MikeWaldt hi, and a Happy New Year to you. I've now been using the mask for about a week now and have to say it is very good, especially with the fact I wear glasses. The times in the past that my glasses have fogged up, usually at the wrong time, when wearing a dust mask.
I also do some resin work and wear it whilst casting, due to the odours, and it works a treat.
Thanks for the recommendation.
As they say 'keep on turning'.
All the best, keep safe.
Regards Richard.
I got one of these a few weeks ago and love it. Just wish I had got one years ago👌
Does air blowing in above your eyes irritate your eyes at all? I hate wind in my eyes it seems to dry them out. Thanks
As an Asthmatic. I changed to this model from a full face mask with a safety shield. It was the best thing I have done for a long time. I no longer do I have to stop after a couple of hours and never have a problem breathing.
Gkad you find it does the job for you William.
Very good review Mike. It looks like an excellent unit. A bit expensive at $345 but as you say: "You only have one set of lungs." Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and please continue to stay healthy.
Thanks Glen.
Looking at buying one myself as a joiner, are there any alternatives at a similar price range? Or higher rated respirators?(Other than the Trend range) Thanks.
Not that I know of Ollie.
Hi Mike. It’s encouraging that you use the same kit as myself and I thank you for sharing 🌞
Good bit of kit Ray. Cheers. Mike
Not available in Australia, is this because it does not comply with Australian Safety Standards?
Hi Steve I really can't say, but I'm sure there is a similar alternative where you live. Thanks for watching.
Oh never mind my last comment. The web site says this mask can not be shipped to the United States. That's weird.
Seems great but why is it better then a half face mask with good filters?
Personal choice Reef I've used one for years and still find it a great piece of kit.
I quite agree Mike, very recently got one for myself and loving it. Cheers.Stuart
Glad you concur Stuart.
I don't have constant power to my workshop, I have to turn it off when I leave. So I would need two batteries, so that one could be charging while the other is being used. Just took a look at spare batteries for this unit, expecting them to be £25 - £30. £114!! ... what the ??? ridiculous!
The battery is very small and light, yet gives up to eight hours service on a single charge, compare that to a drill battery, which gives no where near that longevity of service per charge cycle.
@@MikeWaldt Two completely different things there mike. A drill consumes far more power than a little fan in that mask.
@@SirBenJamin_ OK Let's leave it there .... they are not inexpensive 🙂
Love mine! I wore it when I took the dog to the vet to be COVID safe... they loved it too! Lol!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I found that the screen protector is very good at dispelling dust whereas the bare screen seems keen to attract it. I also use a vacuum cleaner on the outside of the filters after sanding often it is very obvious that a lot of dust is being caught. I agree with Mike that the unit is actually quite quiet.
Totally agree. I do the same - it’s interesting to see the pre filter colour go back to white. V glad that dust didnt get to my lungs.
I do the same.
How do I buy this in the USA? It won't ship here for some reason??
I don't think it's available in the US Greg.
This was the first thing after my lathe and tools that I bought 2 years ago which I have never regretted. It’s simple to fit and I’ve had a couple of near misses and used the face protection with 100% success and as I didn’t have other air filtration at the time it was great purchase despite the costs. Great video overview 👍
Glad you agree Tony.
Another great video, thanks! Can you recommend a comparable model thats available in the US? Also, does this have a lithium battery?
Mark Baldwin Mark Baldwin, i bought mine (in the US) from pekesafety.com. I like it.
Mark Baldwin - I bought mine, in the US, from pekesafety.com. I believe it is the same unit.
@@fredvanetten383 Thanks, Ill look in to it.
Cheers Mike! I looked at these when I was in the Axminster store in Cardiff last weekend. Just bought my first small lathe so the list for essential things is growing! That presentation is great and as a glasses wearer myself it's all good information 👍 thank you 😊
The lathe is the cheapest part... I just got a jet 12" and I love it!
Thanks Jonathan, and enjoy your turning journey.
The last time you did a review on one of these you said the same thing about it keeping you cool in the summer. It does not. If the outside air is hot then you have hot air blowing over your face, in fact it is unusable on a hot day.
SCCFORUM mine feels generally cooler than the outside air due to the breeze across the face.
@@billgiles3261 On a normal temp day but not on a hot day.
All I will say is that on hot days having the warm air moving accross your face is still cooler than working in the ambient motionless air.
I agree Bill.
@@MikeWaldt LOL. That is like saying on a hot day you like to have a hairdryer pointing at you on medium heat.
Anyway it doesn't bother me as we only get one hot day per year.
Any idea why it cannot be shipped to USA?
It could be legislation or shipping costs.
Just got mine for Christmas 😊so thank you Mike for the video very useful , and comes in completion with the instructions manual. 😊will start using it pretty soon. Greetings from France.
Glad the video was useful Eric.
Great review Mike. I have the Trend Respirator and you are totally correct in that after about an hour it does get really heavy to wear. Mind you that is a great excuse for another cup of tea though. LOL. I've been thinking of buying this respirator as along with yourself others have said it is a great piece of kit. Thanks for taking the time to do this review Mike. Take care. Cheers, Huw
Thanks again for watching and your input Huw.
Out of stock everywhere?
Back in at Axminster very soon 🙂
Mike Waldt, thank you for checking. I’m in as soon as they’re available.
You are the best. Your shows are the perfect combination of demonstration and education.
J
Hello this seams to be a very good product but the only problem is that it is not available since months on Axminster site where did you get it ? Thank you
I have been told it will be back in stock within a few days.
Hi Mike. I saw your review on the original cap and on the strength of that I bought one. I’ve been very happy with it and it does the job well. A bit expensive for the initial shell out and the price at Axminster has rocketed up!!😯. I wash my pre filters in cold water and keep using them as they get filthy quite quick
Good find Nigel, as long as you've got good protection that's the main thing 🙂
I must admit it's a very comfortable thing to wear , but personally I ado not think it offers enough protection, I found dust on the inside of the screen and could still taste the dust in the air, agree on airshield pro but it does offer much better quality filter system
I haven't experienced that but each to their own, and thanks for watching and your input.
Thanks for a good review, may the old JSP R.I.P... I have been using the Axminster version for about a year and a half and totally agree, it´s really user friendly and the beard issue you mentioned made the choice easy, just like the not fogging glasses. The battery seems to hang in there even after much use and I can only recommend this respirator. Good you mentioned additional dust extraction/air filtering since the very finest particles aren´t stopped by these cartridges.
Thank for watching snd your input Den, much appreciated.
Does it has headphones?
No Duong they don't.
Great review. I've had the trend and agree wholeheartedly with your comments about it. Have recently brought the Axminster ap10 and I love it, light and effective.
Glad you agree Steven and thanks for watching.
For what it's worth Mike, I contacted the manufacturer about the draining the battery 'dry'. I'm not a technical expert by any stretch of the imagination but they were adamant that the battery did need to be run dry upon receipt. I didn't understand their explanation particularly well but it's their equipment and I am a history major for a reason. Cheers...
Thanks for your input John, much appreciated.
Lithium batteries have no memory I'm sure it would work just fine, I've always been told don't fully disperse lithium batterys (most have a automatic cut of of around 15% life) and you are better charging to 90% if you plan on storing for a while 👍🏼
Mine arrived on Saturday Mike. Thanks once again for great advice and detailed video. 👍Cheers, Jim.
My pleasure JM, I glad to hear that you're happy with it.
Hello Mike. Thanks for a very informative demo as I am interested in getting one.
As I live in France I was shocked to see the price of 340 euros although in uk it is priced at £250 but further surprised that Yandles are selling the JSP model at only £230. As a result I will be buying from Yandles but I thought other people may be interested.
Glad you found a bargain Geoff. It is a great piece of kit.
You’ve done a good job on this, Axminster are out of stock already!
Lol Tony, I have been informed they will be back in stock soon.
Good video Mike got to get over to new and old turner's wood dust is a silent killer.😉👍👍
Thanks Barry.
Would the battery slip off the clips if your bending up and down a lot as it didn't look a tight fit?
No Eduardos they stay well in place. I have used this model fo over eight years and had no issues at all.
@@MikeWaldt could you tell me if the filters are P1? I can't see any P3 filters for it
Great piece of equipment Mike, enjoy it.....stay safe xxxx
Thanks Val.
Hello MIke
Do you know if spare batteries are available and thier cost? If not, it doesn't matter, I can always contact Axminster. I am just being lazy that's all. Yet again well done...
Cheers
Frederick
Frederick The battery last for a good 8 hours I have one great bit of kit
@@diggerdelaney Hello Derek. Thanks for this. I am thinking of getting one but they are a bit expensive for me at the moment.
Hi Frederick they are available but not cheap. As Derek says below the do last a good 8 hours.
Thanks for that Derek 🙂
I have one Love it
Does axminster sell the protection film to go on the visor
Yes Bryan they do 🙂
Thanks Mike awesome info take care stay safe god bless
Thanks for watching Donald.
thanks for this review, looking for a good face shield
Thanks for watching Mike.
Good review Mike.
Thanks Mr Chippy.
Can’t be effective if you keep your beard.
Francisco d’Anconia idiotic statement, did you actually watch this?
Yes it can and is, as it does not rely on a seal, it works on positive pressure created by the fan, as I pointed out in the video.
Good review Mike take care .
Thanks Glen.
Mike, I just checked on the cost; at near $450.0 CDN, I'll stay with an N95 mask under my chainsaw helmet with earmuffs and an 1/8" plexiglass screen pop-riveted to the Husqvarna helmet. These lathe hobby costs have gone completely outta control, like the rest of capitalism!
buy once cry once!!! You obviously don't understand capitalism..
@@floridabeardedwoodworker Capitalism? hahaha is on its way out of Doge, dude.
ED FINN~ 1. Thou shalt honour Me as your one true God and have faith in my religion of neoliberalism, globalization, free trade and private ownership.
2. Thou shalt accept the impoverishment of the many and the enrichment of the few, for in my religion avarice is to be valued over social and economic equity, and competition over co-operation.
3. Thou shalt not oppose the decline of democracy. I will permit you the illusion of democracy. You may still vote for and elect parties that purport to be different, but since they now all bow down to Me, it matters not which forms thy government.
4. Thy governments shalt provide my loyal corporate minions with ample grants, tax breaks and subsidies, and overlook their excesses in the noble pursuit of profit.
5. Thy governments shalt not tax my corporations beyond the limit of their tolerance, for the taxation of wealth and profit is the greatest evil. Any government so rash as to break this commandment will feel my wrath as I devastate its economy by relocating factories, jobs, and capital to more devout and compliant regions.
6. Thou shalt not hamper my corporations with restrictive rules and regulations. They must be allowed to treat their employees as they see fit, limitlessly exploit natural resources, and dispose of their toxic wastes and emissions without regard to the environment.
7. Thou shalt halt the excessive and unnecessary education of your youth. Education instills unreasonable expectations that could lead to clear and critical thinking. I require citizens who are docile and easily indoctrinated. You must therefore make your education system less accessible to aspiring students and more susceptible to corporate influence. This will include the incorporation of these Commandments in the school curriculum.
8. Thou shalt eliminate all barriers to the privatization of your public programs and institutions, including education and health care, so that corporations will be free to deliver these services on a profit-making basis.
9. Thou shalt endure without complaint the social costs of adherence to my Commandments, which put the rights of the rich and powerful above those of the less financially endowed majority. The strong must be free to flourish and the poor and weak allowed to succumb to poverty, hunger, and homelessness. This is the ideal society that my commandments are designed to create, and in which my corporate adherents will best be able to thrive.
10. Thou shalt obey these Commandments without question, knowing that they have been passed down from on high to my apostles on Wall Street and Bay Street, and to my loyal mass media owners. The private newspapers and TV-radio stations have been entrusted with the crucial task of spreading my neoliberal free-market doctrine far and wide. Henceforth, you must believe everything they tell you, because you will know they speak for Me, your omniscient and omnipotent Capitalist God.
Each to their own John. Thanks for watching.
@@MikeWaldt Firstly, Mike, I'm a subscriber and have been for many months. I love the channel and the work you do. I coveted your Axminster lathe, until the factory told me there were no dealers here in Canada, not would they ship one. I bought a Coronet Herald, put it on a wood bench, then filled the two lower shelves with 550 lbs of powdered red clay. I now have an 800 lb midi.
Okay, the helmet. With CNC milling, mold forming and other automated manufacturing procedures, these manufactured goods cost virtually *nothing* to manufacture. Walmart and Amazon basically toss the returned items into a dumpster. No one can afford to repackage them. Ever reached behind the first item on a rack when it was either taped or stapled together by staff? hahaha With Jeff's Delivery Service, if a carton gets accidentally bumped in his "fullfillment" warehouses, sometimes they are offered as "used", at a discount, when in reality they are perfectly unopened.
The 'crash helmet' in question would cost me about $600 CDN by the time freight + customs and duty were applied. That's 1/3 the cost of the Record Power lathe. The cost is not on! Yes, agreed, each to their own. Our economic system is failing badly; therefore our collective hobby need not follow the wiles of well-heeled, muddle class victims of ageism. hahaha
\
Have a great labour day. At least Canucks still use the English way of spelling.😃
They can't ship this to the US. Too Bad
I know it's a shame Pops.
Thanks Mike ... good information. I have the Trend Airshield Pro, and as you pointed out, it can become very uncomfortable after an hour or so. I looked at this product (represented by a U.S. seller) at last Fall's Ohio Valley Symposium ... just couldn't justify the expense then as I had just purchased the Trend unit a year or so earlier. Maybe it is time to reconsider!
Thanks for watching and your input Gerald, always appreciated.
Cannot be shipped to the US
Unfortunately that is true.
