Just saw them at a local theater. Just as good as ever! I don't know about Deep Purple or Led, but they are a damn fine band that has stood the test of time! @@Ariovistus1
I hear this and in an instant I'm 40 years younger......Why are they still playing? And believe me...I ask this with tears in my eyes. Eric is winding up, god bless him. Buck is.....immortal?!! What the eff is going on?!. I wish the Bouchards were still on board.....I wish Allen was still with us. My memories of these tours...and if you're like me, they transcend life.....I'll be 60 in 32 days. they don't go away...
Hey bubba! It’s now another year older. I just turned 65 and I feel just like you did. Take care. I hope there will be another year for the both of us.
I will be 62 in 2023.I grew up in Jacksonville Florida many live shows gone by. All the memories. We lived during the best music times. Music has been such a big part of my life and now such a connection to the memories.Sometimes I cry myself , I have been so blessed.Embrace the musicand the memories it brings back.
The Local Los Angeles Radio stations KMET 94.7 and KLOS 95.5 played this song a lot in 1977. Blue Oyster Cult's Lesser known songs should be Hits. I Love all of Their Music. \m/ \m/
More than any other song, I wish BOC would release a studio version of the full length of this song with the additional verse and an extended guitar outro. For my money, this is Buck's best work, rivaling even the great David Gilmore.
that last solo was just transcendent. Just incredible. Playing rhythmicly but as a lead, thwipping in mini phrases within the ballsier., multinote rhythic leads. Controlled aggression.
I have a history with BOC since '72, seen them 4 times in smaller venues, knew the Bouchard brothers way back when. This is a mature Buck at his finest. Not overplayed, yet complex and controlled. And pure class watching Eric and and Kasim slowly backpedal while Buck demonstrates, at 67 years old, why he's one of the greats. Front and center, where he belongs.
Just think, to perform like this, after all these years...Wow, they sound superb.. In two more years they'll be celebrating 50 years as Blue Oyster Cult. There was only one Jimi Hendrix. One Randy Rhodes. One Alvin Lee. Buck Dharma is still with us. Enjoy the magical melodies he creates, along with the rest of this top notch band while their still touring.
Hey Jeepster, right you are. They are amazing live. What is even more apparent if you see them live is how much they still enjoy playing. I know Buck personally........... he and his wife/ kids are a true class act as well. I've finally convinced my inlaws to see them with us. They are 72 years old. My father in law actually new Buck back in HS on Long Island. I know they are gonna be blown away. Can't wait. Be well.
I will bud. Glad to find people like you who get Buck/BOC. I'm kind of glad in a way that they never got the "crazy" critical fame. I feel that they are just too special. They are way over the heads of the casual listener. Think of this Jeepster...... 50 years nearly. They are still playing, still great and have a solid fan base................With ZERO help from the corporate music world. I think that peeps like us are damn lucky to know them. I'm on Long Island BTW. Wheres home for you?
@@jeepsterrex2185 Unfortunately not Rex............ that was on my radar too. I've got a 50th Bday surprise party to go to. I spaced on you last reply about the Riverhead show.............. It was outstanding. A few set list surprises too. Eric sounded better than he has in a while too. I was hoping to hear something from the new CD but, nope, was not even mentioned by them. You're in Queens?? I was a Glendale kid many moons ago. be well enjoy it.
BOCs has so many great songs. One of the reasons there fan base is so large and supports their shows endlessly for decades. So many songs to fill the set.
I bought all BOC albums back in the 70's/80's, love the band but never got to see them in concert. One of my friends Roger Lanier was a cousin to Alan. So many great songs!!!!
Saw them at the Providence Civic center late 70's several times. I recall one show where this Canadian hand opened for them - I think their name was Rush. Needless to say, one hell of a show!
That performance is really so good, seen them for the first time last october when they were supporting deep purple in glasgow, of course i've heard of BOC and only knew 2 of their songs but was so impressed by their performance and like their symbol,,,,im hooked ! Just wish i'd listened to them earlier in life.
There are some songs that will give a chill when heard, this one does it for me, especially after this many years and age, their playing and vocals is stellar. So highly underrated. All of their songs and lyrics are so original. They made their music their way.
These guys jus get better with age. Movin' slo but still kicking ass. I would love to be able to do jus one single song like this and they have 3 dozen. Criminally underrated band.
Life long fan, got to see them again here in Portland just before Covid hit and people started burning the city every night... Took my son, he and I had a great night, really opened his eyes to what a group of old masters can do.
The best concert I've ever seen, Jansen Beach ice arena Portland Oregon 1979 , snowing , road closers, about only 600 attended, Black Oak Arkansas, Pat Travers covered, When BOC came out they said they were going to put on a show, this when they had the full on laser show, they delivered!!!
Thanks Frontiers for picking up a great band that deserves better exposure than they have received in the past. Don't Fear the Reaper is a top 100 classic of all time and should be recognized as such!!!! Cheers!
One of my favorite BOC tunes and it sounds like nothing else out there. I've seen them 6 times from the early 80's to as recent as 2019 but this song was never on their set list. This is the first live version I've ever seen and it is awesome...outstanding!
I was lucky enough to have heard them play this at my first concert in 2015. Unfortunately I didn't realize how rare it is for them to play it or else I would've had every moment etched in my memory!
Best song about vampires, hands down. The studio version was missing a verse that they added to their live shows, like here. Missing verse: Now I never rise until sun falls. And my vision knows no walls. And I’m looking for ladies walking alone. They forget the day. When they hear me say ... I love the night ...
I thought it was about a ghost that the singer fell in love with, the lyrics make a lot more sense now. This is such a peaceful entrancing song...... Kind of like a vampire's entrancement.....
Continuing to live vicariously through every live version I can find of this band. My concert is "postponed" but I love them so much! Thank you. Please post as many live videos as you possibly can.
I first heard this song live at a place called Captain Zax in Springfield, Va. Eric said "here's something for you lovers of the dark", & they did I Love The Night. Leave it to BOC to make a vampire tune that's awesome & romantic.
Yeah - that place was actually called Jaxx, and I was at that show in the early 90's, 92 I think. Blew me away, especially with the extra verse. A couple years later Eric rode my Harley up on stage in that place. Good times.
I recall seeing/hearing BOC at an outdoor venue in NE Ohio. A thunderstorm approached from the West. While other bands would pack it in, BOC kept playing. The wind caused the huge BOC banner to billow in the wind. Distant lightning and thunder punctuated their stellar performance. I dedicate this tune in VERY loving memory of My Rachel -- My Resplendent Creature of the Night. "Astronomy" inspired me to start writing again. Thanks Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma!
Such a great live band! I saw them for the first time in 2001 when I was 9. I've seen them 10 times and I hope to see them many more before they decide to hang up their instruments for good.
I agree. With Neil Peart's unfortunate passing it is getting urgent to see these great old bands before they go. I see the Oyster boys on Feb. 9 and can't wait.
I first saw them in '86 opening for Ozzy, but started going to the club shows around '96. They are one of the best hard rock touring acts around and should never be missed. My teenage sons come with me when ever they have an all ages show. I saw them in Feb. of this year and the crowd was so hot they spontaneously did a 6 song encore!
Buck is one of the most beautiful, melodic guitarists to ever live.
Spectres is one of the most UNDERRATED albums of ALL TIME. I still own it on 8-track. Just an amazing masterpiece!
Totally underrated, sadly. One of the great 70's rock albums imho.

Apparently Sandy Pearlman told Buck to cut it for the version in Spectres in the hopes that a shorter version would make for a better single
