BöC is my all time favorite band. They have one great song after another.
BOC has always been one of my favorites. They were once coined "The Intelligent Hard Rock" band due to their brilliant storytelling of dark yet sometimes campy takes on mythology, fantasy, and science fiction.
@@dunringill1747 Their writing is truly something special. They have a way of capturing imagery while being mysterious and sometimes sublime even. Also, every song seems to have a lot of thought put into the writing which I appreciate. Not to mention the musicians…
Cultösaurus Erectus is criminally underrated.
@@devilpuppetsinc Too bad that sold less than Mirrors; but"In Thee" was the reason why it sold 50.000 more copies than Cultosaurs..
Blue Oyster Cult is Amazing
Their lyrics are intelligent
They are incredible musicians
And their best songs were never played on the radio
But they have the most
Intense and loyal fans Ever
You guys Rock
Thanks
That song reminds me of when I used to work 3rd shift. Getting off when the sun comes up and going to work at 11pm. 😃✌️🤟
Finally, people are listening to more than just “Don’t Fear the Reaper” and “Burnin’ for You” (not a knock against those songs)! My wife and I saw them live multiple times last year and once brought our daughters with! They still play with a ton of energy and each set list had some different songs so it was very much three different concerts. Just incredible.
For a vampire song it's the best you'll ever hear hauntingly beutifull
What kinda vampire is bathed in light and dressed in white? LOL
@@Derideo I think youl find it is
@@Derideo Bathed in moonlight, out to seduce
@@Derideodudes the lady in white refers to a vampire story that predates Bram Stoker's Dracula book.
@@rc59191also the first record of a vampire burning in the sunlight is Nosferatu.
The guitar solos on this song are absolutetly sublime...BOC has a great catalog of music and "I Love The Night' has always been one of my favs...Can't believe you found this nugget to react to.
Their guitars are always incredible.
@@neillenet291 I'm even an old fart metalhead, but I can't disagree with what you & Tom have said. Absolutely talented musicians. We've been lucky to have them.
Buck is never ranked among the best. Hell, he's never ranked on any top 100 poll let alone top ten. People are sheep.
@@flexiblestrategist9922 Not really. Buck was a top 10 guitarist back in the 70s. Their long time manager and Rolling Stone had a feud which is why BÖC has all been but erased from rock music history.
That album, Specters, was brilliant, their songwriting as always was spot on (Godzilla, Golden Age of Leather, Are You Ready to Rock?)and the variety of great songs showed they still delivered the goods on every album in the 70s and into the 80s and beyond. This was a nicely understated but passionate ballad that does draw you in and they do great rock in all kinds of ways. Lex mentioned vampires, they have a song on that album about them called Nosferatu, utterly brilliant chill song that gives you goose bumps and is a perfect Halloween song. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
The guitar work on Spectres is amazing
I think you will both enjoy once around the world by It Bites!!
Hunt for blood is intimate.
This is one of BÖC:s finest songs. Love it.
I grew up on this stuff. Definitely one of their best.
A day doesn't go by where I don't listen to BÖC! Great choice!
BOC has great storytelling with excellent music
Scoff all you want Brad, Lex hit it right on the head. It is indeed a vampire song. And, one of my fav BOC tunes.
Awesome group. So many great songs that never got airplay. Thanks for the reaction video. Not sure if you have ever heard the song astronomy. It was covered by Metallica. Eti is a sleeper banger as well.
This track and Don’t Fear The Reaper. Their best tracks ever by far. 🎸🎸🎸
Such an underrated but such a beautiful song.
This is from Spectres, one of the best albums of the decade. BOC was criminally underrated, they were as good as anyone besides Led Zep.
Beautiful
"Low key high energy" ...... beautifully said Lex. Me & BOC go way back . 3 of my first 4 concerts back in the "laser show" era 1977-1978. The Spectres album is a masterpiece as is many of their other offerings. This band is so different than any other band you will encounter. Quirky in a grand way with 3 different vocalists, all songwriting band members, each style woven into their sound. You really have to be ready for them with an appreciation for musicianship & an ability to understand their approach, which can be heavy, melodic, street-wise, humorous, hypnotizing (I'll stop there to be polite). Many outside influences have helped craft their career, one of the reasons why you will hear an album of theirs & every song will have a sound all it's own. Thanx a bunch for reacting to this one, one of their ballad-type songs. Some of my suggestions: GOLDEN AGE OF LEATHER, MONSTERS, E.T.I., BLUE OYSTER CULT (the song) from IMAGINOS, THEN CAME THE LAST DAYS OF MAY (from On Your Feet or On Your Knees).
One of my top 3 bands of all time. Many of their songs can be interpreted either dark or light. Love your reactions
As a vampire, I can assure you that the hunt is both "for blood" and intimate... ;)
Seriously, though, this song really captures the vibe of those late, late hours, when the streets are empty and air feels cleaner. When you can imagine for a moment that there's no one else left in the world aside from you, and maybe the rest of the small group with you. I've always loved taking a walk in those pre-dawn hours. It can be kind of magical.
When I was 17 years old, my band opened for Blue Oyster Cult on their 30th anniversary tour. They were super cool guys. I smoked a joint with one of them in the parking lot. Then, I asked them to autograph a flyer because "my parents were really big fans!" They signed it, but replied with "You parents, huh?! Thanks for making me feel like an old fart!" 🤣
That's awesome.. I met Buck, the guitarist, awhile back after a show at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale, and got his autograph.. Yes, they are very cool guys.. have been a fan since 1975.
I met the band a few times
And they are really cool
Buck Dharma, Baby!
Great job by Lex picking up on the vampire undercurrent. I don't want to say how many times I heard it before I caught that. When they do it live they add another verse that really hammers down the theme.
Great song about a vampire love
Other good songs from this lp are "Celestial The Queen", "Fireworks", and "Nosferatu" has a creepy piano intro and it's about the vampire. Cool lyrics that Brad will enjoy and cool music that Lex will love. Nosferatu was a very early portrayal of a vampire. You may have seen the image of him throughout the years. Bald head, pointed ears, and funky teeth and face. It has become a cool cult film.
Great song. They are fabulous live. As in the comment below. Jackie Blue!! OZARK MOUNTAIN DAREDEVILS.
Love this song!!! This band has tons of great songs that were not hits.
I think that they were somewhat blacklisted , most radio stations didn't play very much of their music .
Great that you guys reacted to this spectacular and haunting song, best listened to in the Twilight, just after Sunset..
Another awesome after Sunset tune is "The Sun Goes Down", by Thin Lizzy.. you would both enjoy that track, for sure..
Good to hear this song again. I enjoyed the night too when I was 24 when this was released. I'm old now and I'm a day person now.
Saw them 16 times. At the end of every show, soon as the house lights came up, they played I Love the Night over the PA system for the recessional. So smoky, ethereal and surreal back in the day; a day long gone...
I'm so glad you did this one Brad and Lex! It's always been one of my favorite BOC tracks.
One of my fave BOC tunes with Buck on vocals. This one always hits the nostalgic feels.
And Lex once again gets the win. Very much a vampire song.
Very astute, Lex! This IS, indeed , a vampire song. Such a typical out there lyrical topic for this eccentric band, one of the very few American hard rock bands of the 70s, besides Kiss, to be immensely popular with crowds overseas as well, not just on their home turf. Grand Funk never achieved this, Aerosmith only achieved it much later. But BÖC were one of the bands to be reckoned with among us Europeans as well. alongside our own genre behemoths like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Nazareth, Thin Lizzy, Bad Company ... Yeah, the true rulers of 70s hard rock were predominantly British, BÖC being a very, very notable exception.
It has nothing to do with vampires omg LOL. If anything he met an angel "in white".
@Mr Mikey -- You wrong, it is a vampire song: "One look in the mirror told me so." Vampires are not reflected in mirrors. The ladies in white were the brides of Dracula in the movies.
Actually the lady in white was Lucy ..she was mina harkers friend. But ya this guy tried to tell me it's not a vampire too.. what a tool. The band even admits it. Hahaha
My sister is convinced Ballroom Blitz is about vampires.
there is a final verse that the producer decided to cut in order to give the song better radio appeal, read that and tell me it's not about vampires
It is from the victim's perspective but yes vampire. my favorite romantic vampire song ever!
This song is soothing. I have a great suggestion The Ozark Mountain Daredevils -Jackie Blue ( Live).
YES - JACKIE BLUE!!!!!!!! GREAT SONG!
Yezz indeed. Total agreement with you. They were great live way back in 1975.
The lyrics give it all to you
B.O.C....Bloody...lol...Great Song.
I always underestimate how much I like this band. It has one of the biggest playlists that I have created. Their catalog is DEEP!
love this song! great choice!! about a guy who splits from his girl goes for a wander and meets a female vampire wow! what a song. ; )
I haven't heard this song in ages. Thanks for the memory.
One of the greatest bands of all time.
One of their best! I LOVE Buck Dharma's guitar work in this track! Very ethereal, crystalline, and sublime! To be honest, for the longest time I actually thought it was an Al Stewart ("year of the cat") song. I was actually quite surprised it was BOC!
I forgot about this song!!! Thank you for reacting:)
I watched this and fell into a BOC wormhole that i havent come out of yet
This is one of my favorite haunting songs of all time.
Love the whole album. 🔥
Lex nailed it. I love this song.
BOC songs are often about dark fantasy, mythology, & science fiction.
This one is about a Vampiress 'seduction' attack. A man just broke up with his girlfriend feeling great sadness when 'A lovely lady in white' placed him in a hypnotic euphoric state.
The sublime music reflects that euphoric feeling he is going through. He even thinks of his newly ex-girlfriend as his mind is slipping away (If only you had been there, my dear / We could have shared this together).
This isn't a standard vampire attack where his blood is completely drained and he dies. She is converting him into a vampiric minion which takes several visits over several nights. As he is changing, he can see the effects in the mirror. The clues are in the lyrics.
[Verse 1: Buck Dharma]
That night, her kiss told me it was over
I walked out late into the dark
The misty gloom seems to soak up my sorrow
The further I went on, I felt a spreading calm
Then suddenly my eyes were bathed in a light
And the lovely lady in white was by my side
She said, "Like me, I see you're walking alone -
Won't you please stay?"
I couldn't look away
[Chorus: Buck Dharma]
She said I love the night
The day is okay and the sun can be fun
But I live to see those rays slip away
I love the night
There's so much that I can show and give to you
If you will welcome me tonight
If only you had been there, my dear
We could have shared this together
[Verse 2: Buck Dharma]
No mortal was meant to know such wonder
One look in the mirror told me so
Come darkness, I'll see her again
Yes I'm gonna go, 'cause now I know
[Chorus: Buck Dharma]
I love the night
The day is okay and the sun can be fun
But I live to see those rays slip away
[Outro: Buck Dharma]
I love the night
I love the night
I love the night
Blue Oyster Cult "This Ain't The Summer Of Love"...Nuff Said.
Great pick!
I'm not a big BOC fan. I've never heard this song, but it's nice and mellow. I like it.
Check out "Death Valley Nights". It's mellow too, but better than this.
My favorite band for the past 30; years. Since around 1976.
Oh my goodness! One of my favorite songs that few know about! Going to work, will watch later...Thank you!
Request : Winery Dogs - Elevate
Love this song so much. Fav on the album though is Golden Age of Leather. What a rocker.
I've always liked "In Thee", Allen Lanier's goodbye song to Patti Smith. Another BOC shoulda-been-a-hit.
It's like this band was in some sort of Blue Oyster Cult LOL
A MUST HEAR Classic Smooth Groove,, The Blackbyrds "Walking In Rhythm"...TRUST ME!!
Blue Oyster Cult has produced an inordinate number of vampire songs.
Their best song by far is Don't Fear the Reaper. So good. If you haven't listened to it, 100% you two need so listen to it.
This whole song sounds like a fade-out.
One of BOC's best from one of their best albums, Spectres. If you love the day, Brad, try "The Golden Age of Leather" from this very album.
Once I'm suggesting "Shooting Shark". Such a great bass line in it.
Wow. Didn't know alot of ppl knew this song. Is one of my top 3 fav boc tunes. Great traveling song.
It’s about a phantasm, there songs always have that theme of spirits and ghosts .
"One look in the mirror told me so." She was a vampire....vampires have no reflection.
romance with a ghost or possibly a vampire. I mean the album is called Spectres
Have to listen to this song on a quality stereo system that is capable of producing deep low bass. Joe Bouchard’s bass lines in this song are as hypnotic as the rest of the song. This song will rattle and shake anything that isn’t anchored down.
As mentioned, the hunt for blood is quite intimate. There's a really old vampire game that's one of the best ever made, including a section that's been voted the best haunted house in gaming. Game is Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. Still can be played, and still amazing storytelling and character development. :)
THE most under rated bad of all time is BOC... I mean seriously prolific, so many great songs... it's funny when you see members out in the public now ... nobody knows who they are.. no fame, but talent with the greatest of them, and Buck Darma with a 8K following on RUclips is a joke for a guy who can play circles around 99.9% of the guitarist in rock today and yesterday.
I love BOC...my goal is to see them at least six times this year.
Saw them a few times in the past couple years and they still take the roof off
Amazing
One of the elements of a great song is how different people interpret it differently.
I always thought it was about dude who just broke up with his girl and right away met a new one...one door closes and another one opens sort of thing
I like the vampire theme as well 👍
I'm surprised this song wasn't used in the show True Blood.
I forgot all about this song I read the song name and was like, I don't think I heard this song before and it started playing I just started singing the lyrics right away, man this is a good song.
Nice BOC selection. I've always liked this cut even better than Reaper. The multi-layered guitars definitely swept Lex away.
Yes brad it's a song about a vampire
No it isn't lol. She was an angel in white.
Ah even they say it's about a vampire..read dracula sometime also the angel in White appears in the novel.
The greatest vampire song ever written.
So many great deep cuts
That is a BOC deep track. Great to hear it again
LOVE YA''LLS CLIP...DEFINETELY MY FAVORITE B.O.C. MET ERIC BLOOM GUITARIST & GOT AN AUTOGRAPH ON MY TICKET STUB. THANK YOU JESUS.
Fantastic tune
I always thought that was the coolest guitar riff..
BOC for life. The best band no one understands.
BOC is a thinking man's heavy metal, and you're right, most don't understand them at all.
To me this song was simply a melodic ghost story beautifully performed by an amazing band
Not ghost ,... vampire . " tainted blood" , also.
I know this reaction video is actually 6 months old but I simply could not resist. I love that you used a vampire description, seemingly, without knowing a thing about the band. I love BOC. There is a fascinating storyline on how they came about settling on the name of the band. Sandy Pearlman wrote a lot of their music. He also wrote a ton of poetry. This is where the name came from. His poetry. This was where the "Cult" derived from. You need to listen to Astronomy. That album. Do research on both and you will find a fascinating story. The Soft Doctrines of Imaginos. It would later be like their 11th record, maybe wrong on that number. To much to get into here however. Sandy Pearlman also spent time as manager of Black Sabbath as well as being manager for Blue Oyster Cult. Trust me you guys. I think you will would both love reading this material. This band is so much deeper than you realize.
Wow, this is way off the beaten trail. Nice job.
beautiful!
Fairly deep cut. I am impressed. :)
Damn Brad, better have a bottle of Holy Water ans a few stakes next to your bed tonight, just in case!
Hidden BOC gem.
Absolutely!
Oh my i love this old one nice grove😊
The missus was correct. She totally got it and nailed it in the discussion.
Cheers 🍺
Lex is right; the song is full of quiet power.
BOC!!!! Ok you guys are beyond cool, "Last Days of May" would be one I would suggest, rock on guys!
My fav. band and the best song on Specters; IMO. "Celestial The Queen" is catchy and faster paced.
This connects with don't fear the reaper.
Brad looks hungover.
I have to add to the suggestions for BoC, please do 'Veteran of the Psychic Wars'. It is truly a deep dark hidden gem.
BOC is such an awesome band.
Brad needs a song like Three Point One Four by Bloodhound Gang. He won't have to think about the meaning at all.
My favorite song about Vampire Love!!!
There is a video version with this same recording that is awesome too.
