      I don't see it necessarily as being about a lady vampire. I have always loved this song, but I see it as a kind of erotic fantasy about a mysterious dream woman. 🥰

    As you've probably noticed, Buck, more times than not, sings the mellower pieces, while Eric sings the harder-edged stuff.....not including "Astronomy".😁
    And of course the Bouchards can fill in everything else. Another great vampire piece of their's is "Nosferatu" off this same release. Sung by their bass player, Joe Bouchard, it's storyline follows Bram Stoker's Dracula novel closely. Great reaction!

    I saw them 16 times back in the day. They had such a unique sound; early metal and prog laced with science fiction and gothic horror. They also wrote lovely ballads like this gem, which served as their recessional song when the lights came back up after every show I saw. Whenever I hear it now, I remember the fuzzy feeling of trying to come back to my senses while being shuffled along with the red-eyed crowd back to the car. It's a tossup whether Spectres or Secret Treaties is my favorite of their albums. And Donald Roesser might be the most underrated guitarist in Rock! Thx.

    This is where I got into BOC. We had tickets to see Skynyrd for the fall of 77. Then the plane crashed and that was that. Ticketron let us exchange our tickets for another upcoming show. We picked this. Opening acts Crack The Sky and The Sanford Townsend Band. This was before the Big Godzilla behind Albert but it was the best ever laser show on the planet at that time. A year later all that shit got shut down and made illegal. But being enveloped in a rainstorm of laser beams floating in dope smoke and dry ice has never left me. From that moment I became a huge BOC fan to this day.

      On Rockline Radio's Halloween Special [ 31 Oct 2012 ], I got to ask Buck Dharma and Eric Eric one question;
      👉 What's the inspiration behind, their funky track, "She's as Beautiful as a Foot", (on their great debut album, 5️⃣0️⃣ years ago). Buck's reply was, "Richard Meltzer, (lyricist collaborator & Crawdaddy! rock critic), wanted to hear original lead singer, Les Braunstein sing those words..."
      Meltzer is considered by some rock historians to be the first to write real analysis of rock and roll and is credited with inventing "rock criticism". He also wrote the lyrics for their hit, "Burnin' For You".

We are drawn into the story of a depressed man whose girlfriend just broke up with him - only to succumb to a Vampiress's hypnotic attack. She didn't kill him - rather - he is in the process of becoming her Vampire minion.

    Great intro! This album followed Agents (Reaper) and they had just had crazy success and their live show had this amazing laser show. They were the first so there were really no regulations on what they were doing. It was crazy! Then between the lazers being very fragile and breaking all the time and the FCC stepping in it got too expensive to use them but this is in the height of all this. The used the lazers on Spectres cover. In fact Bloom said the inside of his glasses are taped in the picture as the lazers are basically shining right in his eyes. As far as the song goes it has been my favorite from the first time I heard it. A true ballad that they rarely did live a really shows Buck pop sense, if you will, in his writing. I'm sure the record company gave them pressure to write another "Reaper" and there are a few slower songs on Spectres. As I've been picking songs to be reviewed I have really rediscovered some songs that I haven't heard in a while. I'm going to continue to skip around as there are gems throughout their catalog. Nothin but love my peeps! ✌️❤🙏🤘

    "I Love The Night" is about a passionate encounter with a vampire. Buck Dharma romanticizing a scary situation, as he accomplished with "Don't Fear (The Reaper)". The "Spectres" album concludes with a polar-opposite vampire tale; the spine-chilling "Nosferatu", which follows the time-line of Bram Stoker's classic "Dracula".

      Columbia dropped the ball with this band period. They are so unique and ridiculously talented musicians and song writers. Should have been so much bigger. Had this song been marketed and pushed on radio I have little doubt it would have hit #1. In the 70s and early 80s this band could make any kind of music popular at the time psychedelic to easy listening ballads to hard rock and heavy metal. They could do it all well. I guess the main issue is their songs and lyrics were just too complex for most people. They didn’t write about what most bands did like sex, drugs and love. This was a collection of talent that most bands could only dream of having.
