    STORYLINE:
    Afghanistan's deposed King, Mohammad Zaher Shah made a historic return to his country on Thursday, ending his 29-year exile in Italy.
    Many believe the monarch's return will help bring stability to Afghanistan in the wake of the US-led defeat of the Taliban regime and also to unify ethnic and tribal groups.
    The King stepped off his plane at Kabul airport to be greeted by a waiting crowd of dignitaries, who applauded as he stepped back on home soil.
    Flown in on an Italian military aircraft, Zaher Shah was accompanied by Afghanistan's interim leader Hamid Karzai and six Afghan Cabinet ministers.
    An honor guard stood on either side of a red carpet laid out at the base of the steps of the plane.
    Dozens of tribal leaders wearing traditional tunics and turbans waited for the royal entourage to arrive.
    Zaher Shah shook hands and hugged some of the supporters before leaving the airport in a waiting car.
    In June, the former monarch is to preside over a grand national assembly of tribal leaders and other Afghan representatives who will select a transitional government that will rule Afghanistan until elections.
    Zaher Shah was dethroned in 1973 by a cousin, Mohammed Daoud, while vacationing in Italy and has lived there ever since.

    His father Nader Shah was very brutal towards Hazara people until he was killed by a Hazara high school student, Abdul Khaliq who shot him on his head to make sure he finishes the job. Zahir Shah's policies were much better, but even he imposed a lot of extra taxation on the people of Hazarajat and imprisoned some Hazara leaders.
    Central government is treating everyone almost equal now, but the only thing is that the budget still is not fairly distributed in the country. A lot of money is spent in the South and a lot of projects are ongoing there despite ongoing war there, but in Hazarajat people still lack basic infrastructure, despite being the safest region in the whole country. Locals who live abroad send money to built schools in Hazarajat region. Afghanistan didn't make infrastructure for us, hopefully we can make it for Afghanistan one day!

    • @mujahid-9630
      @mujahid-9630 3 года назад +1

      Noor Norderm they were not treated bad because they were haZaras but because haZaras were allies of ghilji pashtuns who were against the king. It was more political. Pashtuns of ghazni, zabol, paktia live close to hazaras and were very close. They were a threat to the kingdom and both the ghilji pashtuns and hazaras were discriminated. The Pashtuns were kicked out of Kandahar and ghazni and sent to baghlan and qundoz. The hazaras were sent to Quetta. This made both of them weak and the king stronger without any resistance.

      Much of what you say is true, but the enmity between Hazaras and Pashtuns go deeper than Zahir Shah's time. It started with the massacre of Hazaras by King Abdur Rehman Khan long before Zahir Shah.
      His brutality caused a lot of Hazaras to flee from Hazarajat to Quetta and Mashhad. Now those Hazaras mostly don't see themselves being from Afghanistan. A huge nummer of them were killed by the rage of war on Hazarajat that last 8 years.
      Zahir Shah's reign was in a way a continuation of what Hazaras faced during Abdur Rehman Khan, though he was much better comparing to Abdur Rehman Khan. So when some Afghans refer to him as "father of the nation". We Hazaras don't agree with that.

    • @mujahid-9630
      @mujahid-9630 3 года назад

      Noor Norderm abdurahman also waged a war against ghilji Pashtuns who are the biggest Pashtun tribe. They were kicked out of ghazni ghor zabul and Kabul to peshawar and north of Afghanistan and some to india. He killed more Pashtuns than anyone else because Pashtuns were not accepting him as king especially the ghilzai tribe. He did many massacres against Pashtuns and haZaras

      @@mujahid-9630
      True he killed many pashtuns too and divided pashtuns by giving part of AFghansintan to British India (Pakistan today), but the scale of massacre on Hazaras was much bigger. According to history books, 60% of Afghan Hazaras were whether displaced to other countries or were killed by Abdur Rehmans soldiers that were equipped by British weaponry in return of the Durrand line.

    • @mujahid-9630
      @mujahid-9630 3 года назад

      Noor Norderm 60% is an overstatement but probably around 30% were displaced to Quetta and Iran and thausands killed as well who tried to resist.
