    I don't doubt FSU joining the B1G within the next year. It WILL happen, and I am rooting for it. A lot easier competition (overall) than the SEC, and we can win it within a couple years. It also brings us, like, 2x revenue without TV rights. Also, we are a baseball school. I know it doesn't bring in a ton of money compared to football, but we are definitely a competitive baseball team (1 of 2 undefeated teams) , as well as one of the best historic programs of all time, and definitely the biggest in football since the 90's. (Note: Yes, we had less championships than Bama, but Bama has gotten in (usually) out of 4 teams, while we won 2 and played in (5?) nattys in the BCS era. We also should have won one in 1996 after we beat UF but they still put UF in the championship)

      Wow, you're really going to be disappointed. The B1G has an escalation clause to expand in its current media deal, but it's only for Notre Dame.
      If Notre Dame comes to the B1G dragging FSU along, well then congratulations you just hit the lottery!
      Now, if it's anybody else, you're going to have to work through some issues. Money mostly, because Fox already boosted the media less than a year ago to add Wa/Or, apparently they are tapped till 2030, maybe they are bluffing and bump it again, but that's not gonna be anymore than what Wa/Or. got, which is half shares till 2030.
      I've heard people say ESPN and Fox will get in a bidding war, I don't buy that for a second though. Both understand they can't keep throwing money at every school that wants to jump conferences. I fully expect ESPN to low ball every ACC team besides UNC.

    For west coast teams, Arizona is on the low end of possible expansion invites for the B1G.
    Stanford
    Utah
    Cal
    Colorado
    All four have favorable tv rankings over Arizona when you average the last 5 years. Since this is about football, and the tv audience that a team can bring, Utah probably brings the most eyeballs with Stanford giving them a run for their money. Of course Colorado blew everyone out last year due to the infatuation with coach Prime. How long will that last though?
    Point is, there are too many teams in front of Arizona for a realistic invite. That’s not a knock on the Wildcats, that’s just the factual numbers. AZ has some great sports programs, but the money and their ability to draw in a national audience falls short.

      When the B12 added WVU, some B12 member schools (namely, KSU, KU, ISU and Texas) complained about WVU's low academic standards and Louisville almost got into the B12 as a replacement for WVU. If those B12 schools did not want to be associated with WVU's academic profile way back when, why would you think the many AAU schools in the B1G would want to add WVU. Pitt is an AAU school and has excellent academics as well as being a rival for Penn State. So, yeah, I do think Pitt has a shot.

      Academics count for a lot among Big Ten college presidents and for the past 130 years academics have played a huge part in which rivals a university chooses to associate with athletically.
      Had Nebraska been kicked out of the AAU (Association of American Universities) before Big Ten membership was offered rather than after, it's highly doubtful that the Big Ten schools would have extended the invitation in the first place. As it was, Nebraska was offered and accepted Big Ten membership just before they were (grossly unfairly) expelled from the AAU. The Big Ten, to their credit, maintained their invitation because they felt that Nebraska still met their academic as well as athletic standards. Note that all of the incoming Big Ten schools are AAU members.
      Also consider that the Big Ten, more than any other power conference, fosters academic and research cooperation among their member schools through the Big Ten Academic Alliance.

    • @Jimmy-sj9ny
      @Jimmy-sj9ny Месяц назад

      @@craigrohn9938 Don't believe that Nebraska was treated unfairly by the AAU. The "knocks" on Nebraska academically were: (a) Nebraska's research was too heavily skewed toward basic agricultural research; and (b) the AAU does not allow members to aggregate research from an administratively distinct medical school. Iowa State recently forfeited its AAU membership because of (a) as have others and several would-be AAU members such as Oklahoma have administratively separate medical schools whose research is thus not included within the "main campus's" research. The rules for AAU membership appear to be in general consistently applied.

    • @craigrohn9938
      @craigrohn9938 Месяц назад

      @@Jimmy-sj9ny They're both in the same university system under the same system president. Just because the med school is in Omaha rather than Lincoln shouldn't make that much difference. And, "basic agricultural research," while it won't win Fields Medals or Nobel Prizes, happens to be one of the things that feed this nation and the biggest thing that the AAU objected to was that a lot of the research was USDA funded. I still think UNL got jobbed.

    • @Jimmy-sj9ny
      @Jimmy-sj9ny Месяц назад

      @@craigrohn9938 I am not saying it's right. But, Iowa State had the exact same issue with the AAU devaluing agricultural research and eventually Iowa State did the same as Nebraska did and withdrew from the AAU voluntarily. As to the medical school issue, lots of would-be AAU members have separately administered medical programs. Carnegie classifies UNL as "Research Doctoral- Comprehensive programs, no medical/veterinary school." Just this past year, the University of Oklahoma had the exact same issue when it was considered but not approved for AAU membership. OU's main campus is in Norman with around $400M of annual research grants and its medical campus is in Oklahoma City which also has $350-400M of annual research grants. OU's Norman campus is also classified by Carnegie as "Research Doctoral- Comprehensive programs, no medical/veterinary school." And, OU also was not permitted to aggregate the research from the two campuses.

    Given your proposed realignment, you must be either an Iowa or Nebraska fan. The Midwest division is mediocre at best and pure garbage at worst. The fairest way to go to twenty teams is to have two 10 divisions with promotion and relegation every year. The teams in each division play every team in their division. Then, the bottom two teams of the premier division are relegated to the lower division and the two top teams in the lower division are promoted to the premier division. The 3rd worst and 3rd best play a game to determine if the 3rd place from the lower division gets promoted.
    BTW There's no way in hell the B1G takes Arizona. In the unlikely event they take another Western team (it's probably going to be ND, UNC, Miami, or Ga Tech), it will be Utah.

ESPN would be generous imo, they don't have to pay the ACC deal anymore, they will have some extra money, I wouldn't be surprised at all though if ESPN tried to low ball ACC teams though.

    UCLA was added for the LA market, not because UCLA is a basketball school.

      I disagree, every decision cannot be football oriented, thx for the thought!

      You might disagree, but it’s an absolute fact. These expansions have been all about football, and nothing else.
      Had basketball had any play into this last expansion by the B1G, Arizona would’ve been picked over both Oregon and Washington. Neither team has Arizona’s resume in basketball.
      Oregon was picked for one simple reason. They constantly sit in the top 12 most watched teams in college football. Washington was picked because they consistently sit inside the top 20. Arizona typically ranks anywhere around the 50th-70th rankings, pending on the year and season results.
      A team needs to generate the tv audience in order to receive an invite because that’s where FOX, NBC, and CBS is paying the B1G for their media rights contracts. The B1G is the most watched conference in the nation in football, hence the reason they receive a $60-$70 million annual payout per team. So unless Arizona can generate that and more, it will only dilute the profit sharing. No president in the B1G is going to sign off an invite towards a team, if that means they will lose money.
      UA will never see an invite because they don’t generate enough of a tv audience to justify that kind of payout. That’s a fact, not an opinion.

    I think your lacking a little up top, . Ohio St., Penn St, and Florida St in the same division is dumb. Can't you even things out better than this? What are you? 3?You guys ruined college football. Can't wait to see what these media company's are going to do when their viewer ratings drop and they can't pay the teams especially since they made the game shorter so they could add more commercials. If these media outlets could make us watch commercials all day they would do it. College football is over as we know it, media owns CFB now.

      I think it’s great. Love the East, Central and West Divisions. Weakest division is MidWest but very competitive internally.

      Can’t speak for the other conferences but the SEC tv viewership numbers are only getting larger. Stadium attendance is packed (except for Vanderbilt). Athletic Revenue is growing at all SEC schools without including their tv media revenue. Add Clemson, UNC, NCST and a University from the state of Virginia and while it just means more now, it’ll just mean much more in the future. Just sayin.

    NOPE. The video-maker is unaware of Arizona law. ASU MUST be in the same league as UofA. This is a non-starter.

      Although I can’t imagine the Board of Regents would ever allow one team (ASU or UofA) to switch conferences without the other, IT IS POSSIBLE if the board votes on this decision.
      Side note: The Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) is the governing body of Arizona's public university system. It provides policy guidance to Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, the University of Arizona, and their branch campuses.

      That is not a solid stipulation. Not set in stone for sure.
      Personally I do not believe Arizona wants to be in the B10. Did you see them play BB today? Looking for a Big Sky invite.

      Laws can be appealed. But IMO I believe if the state law is revoked, ASU joins the Big Ten. Arizona stays in the Big 12 or move up to the SEC.
