Damn, I would give up my life just to watch The Doors live. It must have been magical.. I hope someone invents a time machine in time. I've got like 50-60 years left on this planet.
Reachin' out to Malcolm Clark and John Coupland, you've just blown my mind, guys! The electricity at that concert was tangible. I was a guest of Richard Laskie, a St Paul's school buddy, who'd invited me. His sister was there too. I think she was visiting from the States. It's appropriate that I was the school rebel. White leather belt and long hair at one of the most prestigious fee-paying schools in London, it's probably what Richard liked about me. Looking back now maybe he was my alter ego! At the concert, I probably wore an outlandish shirt and matching trousers. Richard probably had on his tan suede fringe jacket ( all the rage in those days Lol!) I remember I was standing near Richard's sister when my knees began to give way so I placed my arm on her shoulder as I collapsed to the floor. Next thing I knew I was being helped to my feet by two comrades in arms ( the revolution had already started in the early 60s with the Beatles and the Stones ( as in Rolling ). My first words were:" Is Jim alright?" I was ushered outside into the cold September air and asked if I wanted my stomach pumped and what drugs I'd taken. I said I hadn't taken any. We stood outside the Roundhouse under a dark foreboding sky as I recovered my senses. Then I was escorted back inside the venue to meet up again with Richard and his sister. The only explanation for my ordeal was that there was so much dope being smoked and other substances consumed that there was very little actual oxygen. Lol! Long live The Doors!
I was a Middle Earth regular in my teens and that's probably the only period in my life I would love to revisit. I was there and will never forget it even though it is fifty years ago next month. RIP Jim.

My understanding is that The Roundhouse was just that, (a railroad term). A shed/enclosure for locomotives, that had a round turntable within that would have locomotives spun around to be placed onto outer storage tracks for storage or service purposes, all under one roof. There are some iconic photos of Marc Bolan/Tyrannosaurus Rex playing onstage there, with Howard Kaylan (Turtles, Flo & Eddie, Zappa) who regularly did back-up vocal work with T. Rex. They removed the tracks and so on, but I heard there was always leftover refuse on the floor (railroad ballast/stone) from it's former days as a railroad facility. I love the fact that they repurposed something like that for a concert venue.... Kinda like the old Warehouse in New Orleans. Or the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, TX. Or the old Armory in Wilmington, DE. Cool ideas, all. 😎

We were there and stayed for both concerts. The Roundhouse wanted to clear the hall before the second concert but a lot of us stayed. Morrison was amazing, especially his "death" after being shot (drums simulating a shooting). We also saw the Airplane in Parliament Hill Fields a day or so before the Roundhouse. Maybe 100 of us in attendance and it got rained out. Those were the days!
And here's a video that more or less confirms my memories. It seems just one performance. But notice how few people have watched this on RUclips given the doors popularity (still. 35600).
