How appropriate if Reed goes on to help discover cures for cancer and especially the type that took his father's life. He looks like an amazing young man with a good head. Reed has an even more substantial motivation than his father ever had. If he can combine this with his talent and his financial resources, he can make a change. Go for it, kid!
I admire Steve Jobs as much as the next guy, which is why I've seen or listened to almost every video and sound bite of Steve in existence. I've also listened to his authorized biography and an unauthorized biography (twice). He certainly had an interesting life. But was he a genius? I don't think he would have made that claim, but I think he would have let people believe it if they wanted to. That was Steve.
I think Apple needs someone like Steve Jobs and according the the biography the most similar person around Apple is Tim Cook. All those great ideas came from the team around Jobs, so it's still out there, but it was the ingenious sense of Steve Jobs to pick the greatest ideas from the giant pool of ideas.
After seeing this, I don't think it would be a bad idea for this kid to run Apple. Some sons get to run companies and they don't even have capacity for that but I can easily see Reed doing it. But if he chooses medicine, that's awesome too.
