I haven't had any issues with the new igniters. So far. But, I'm also a "perfectionist", so I insert them correctly.
If I have issues with the Estes igniters, I'll save my feet a second trip out and dip the igniters in pyrogen just to avoid the walk back to the rocket for a second attempt.
Finally, the "old school" igniters are the bee's knees. Gimme gimme them thar igniters!

Here in Germany we have so called "igniter sticks"(which are small plastic tubes filled with B.P.), that are usually used for clustering, and we have a tape that has a line of B.P. in the middle, also for clustering.
But I now use these sticks in combination with the regular igniters, because when I only used the igniters on their own, I sometimes had problems getting the motor to ignite.
I don't know if you have a similar product in the US, or maybe you can order em from here.
The company that sells them here is called: "Klima".

Hell yes those copper ones are awesome. I notice most of the new igniters pyrogen is rather flakey, it flakes off too easily, then you get a weak igniter.

I have to agree with you. I never had any igniter issue that weren't caused by me. (Not fully inserted)

I have found that taping my ignitors in place is better than the Estes plastic plugs (which can sometimes force the leads into contact inside the nozzle, shorting out the system)

Absolutely!!! I did notice in the test the older Igniters gave a bigger burst! But I've never had an issue with the igniters for years. Even the so called crapper heads. No issues. Pilot error mostly.

Poor insertion leads to premature ignition.
