- "Police in Ferguson, Missouri, once charged a man with destruction of property for bleeding on their uniforms while four of them allegedly beat him.
“On and/or about the 20th day of Sept. 20, 2009 at or near 222 S. Florissant within the corporate limits of Ferguson, Missouri, the above named defendant did then and there unlawfully commit the offense of ‘property damage’ to wit did transfer blood to the uniform,” reads the charge sheet.
The address is the headquarters of the Ferguson Police Department, where a 52-year-old welder named Henry Davis was taken in the predawn hours on that date. He had been arrested for an outstanding warrant that proved to actually be for another man of the same surname, but a different middle name and Social Security number."

as ridiculous as it sounds, im pretty sure there are some states where that’s actually a thing. i remember seeing on the news a while back that a young autistic kid (maybe like 10-12 years old) was having some kind of episode and was taken to the hospital by the cops for a psych eval. he was evaluated in the hospital for a couple hours and then sent home. but a few days later, his mother found out (i think via a court summons) that her son had been charged with assaulting a police officer. apparently, one of the cops had accidentally scratched himself on his handcuffs while he was trying to detain her son a few days earlier. apparently (or at least according to the cops) in that state, any injury - self-inflicted or otherwise - that an officer sustains while making an arrest, constitutes assault on a police officer. the cop who explained it to the kid’s mom was actually very direct about it, and he said something like “unfortunately, when i was removing my handcuffs from their case on my duty belt, i scratched my hand on a piece of jagged metal. under state law, that’s assault on a police officer”
and he was like totally casual and nonchalant about it, as if he didnt even realize the sheer ridiculousness of the words he was saying.
i don’t know what ended up happening to that autistic kid, but i hope the case got thrown out or the charges dropped. because otherwise, there’s an innocent autistic kid somewhere out there who has a criminal record because a cop scratched himself on his own handcuffs

I got arrested for public drunk once. I freely admitted that I was drunk at the time, and I got a mat to sleep on. I don't see why anyone else, regardless of what they are supposed to have done should not be given the same courtesy. As much as this happens we need to be removing laws that protects these cops from being touched while beating the crap out of someone. If a cop is unlawfully beating you up you should be allowed to hit back and defend yourself without catching an assault of a police officer charge.

Azure I live in Ontario and this guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. The cops here won’t let you say a word to them without a bully club getting pulled on you. I watch the videos of Americans telling cops they know their rights and I’m in awe. Here if you say a word you are obstruction their investigation and you get arrested or hit with the club. I’m white and this is my experience. The cops here are relentless just like anywhere else.

What those officers did was disgusting. Their actions constitute multiple felonies. Let's break it down: armed robbery--taking his cell phone. False arrest: another felony. Filing false police reports, which, by the way, is perjury, another felony. The fact that they beat him to the extent that he required medical attention elevates their crime to what's called felony battery. Or, depending on the mood of the DA, attempted murder. And, of course, let's not forget lying under oath, perjury, another felony. If they're sentenced concurrently, they can expect life in prison.

The problem with cops is not a few guys doing bad things. The real problem is that they all cover for one another. Actually, it is just poor grammar. English isn't algebra, the product of two negatives is not a positive. It is just vernacular speech and reaches outside the bounds of proper grammar. No offense, just wanted to point that out.
Technically speaking, double negation does not exist in many languagues, therefore the grammatical "did not" and "nothing" actually means nothing, not even the opposite. Using it inproperly that way is a product of the corpus, the spoken language, which made it mainstream.

This is history that should be added to history books, and even CRT in Law School. It will NEVER, as long as I live, forget the day this made the news. As a large black man, I have ALWAYS had the fear of being beaten by the cop, and then having my size used as evidence for why they were afraid of me. In America, the cowardice of cops trumps everything. They don't have to BE afraid. They rarely are. They just have to SAY they were afraid, or that they saw "something" that MAGICALLY the cameras missed. And then AFTER we see proof of what the cops did, there is almost a MAGIC SPELL that glazes over the eyes of other police, captains, chiefs, juries, and nearly ALL republicans. They just can't believe that a mistake was made. All some official has to say is that "nothing bad happened," and it's over. Whew! We can pretend our system works.
