I ordered one today. I have watched a lot of reviews by Autogefühl recently, I will visit a little less frequently in the near future (I had to watch everything on the market today to get the best information), and I thank this channel for making this car search a pleasant journey. I will remain a loyal fan, I'm just not going to watch every minute of every review. Keep up the good work! And the first thing I'll be saying when I drive the BMW out of the dealership is "LET'S GO"
Another buying tip - listen to Uncle Thomas and do not tick the M sports suspension option box if you are buying a model with normal suspension ! If you a buying a model where M sports suspension is standard, you must tick the adaptive dampers box ! Do not option 20” wheels, as you then cannot have adaptive dampers.
To help anyone having the petrol vs diesel dilemma: I have the mechanically identical X2 with Xdrive 4WD and “20i” 192PS petrol engine and average 37mpg from mostly open road and suburban driving (no inner city urban). That is 31 mpg US or 7.6 l/100km. It is safe to assume the Sdrive 2WD would return slightly better due to lower weight, and the remapped “25i/28i”engine (4WD only in UK) will be slightly worse. The extra weight and aerodynamics of X1 vs X2 is minimal but might result in marginally higher consumption.
It really looks like a small X5 the resemblance is really good from the front to the new generation and the back looks a bit like F15 3rd gen. Great review and great car.
Been driving one since April 2018 (the same interior as this one). So far it has been very good! i'm kind of excited to see the full update in 2 years?
Yes, Thomas. Plastic in wheel arches should be painted. It just looks better. Exception should be only for glossy plastic. If plastic is matte the car looks very cheap + that plastic changes color very fast and looks very bad
Awesome. I currently own one but changing to an XC40. I’ve just learned that while BMW, etc are improving their models (LED brakes, indicators, etc), Volvo are downgrading the XC40. This video makes me think harder about possibly cancelling my Volvo order and getting another one of these brilliant cars. 👏👏
The X1 is eating the X3's lunch. I think the only thing the X3 has over the X1 is a little more room overall and the rear wheel bias. I suppose BMW is trying to cover their bases by creating options for people who can't tell the difference. Great review Thomas!
Thanks! Well the X1 is more practical and better price/performance, however the X3 does feel more elaborate, more SUVish, more silent and more comfortable on the long run, especially if you are tall
Thorough and articulate review as usual from Thomas. I hear that BMW are going to charges an annual subscription for Apple Car Play which is cheeky. In the UK there are three autos on offer. Not sure what the difference is between the two eight speeds. On the website there are no new colours on offer and the interior is only available in black which is very somber.
BMW use an 8 speed twinclutch box on 2WD models and a conventional 8 speed autobox on 4WD models. You cannot choose which one to have, they are drivetrain dependent. The twinclutch provides faster changes and they are “seamless” at higher speeds, but can be a bit jerky at slow speeds around town.
Nice one as always. We already have this one and waiting for the phew but cannot get any information about availability from the dealer at all. Of course we’re going animal free 👍
I have a 2018.5 X1 2.0i X-Drive - X-Line with sport seats which has been a very good ownership experience in the 15,000 miles I have travelled in it. The 2020 updates address some of the previous shortcomings of the X1 but it would be nice to see LED lighting for the interior, in particular the luggage area. One personal dislike for me is the Aisin 8 speed auto gearbox which is sometimes quite unrefined, snatching gears or a little clunky when changing down. I really am considering a fully specced 2020 X1 with the same engine and X-Drive in M-Sport trim such is my pleasure in driving my present X1.
Good review as always. The smaller BMW's would be my choice as I might go back to the brand at a later date. The 2 series and X-1 and X-2 would definitely be a better choice for price, driving dynamics and agility, fuel cost, parking and city driving. They also are lightweight in comparison to their bigger siblings. As a final bonus they bring back the joy of driving that earlier generations did because of the above mentioned advantages.
Nice review as always, though it'd be nice if you find more rougher/undulating roads to better test the suspension dynamics. Many of the interior & exterior elements are same as the 2-series Active Tourer.
Typical Thomas well explained subtle detail about different US airbag changes. Also laughed at the ‘voice’ attempt to change temperature. BMW’s expensive ‘options options options’ policy maybe accounts for loss of remote rear seat folding! I like a HUD. No BLIS shock! No Area View? Interesting comparison: X1 vs full-spec Tiguan? Many thanks Thomas.
its camouflaged so that if anyone take its pictures the real shape and lines of the vehicles are not revealed. its a trick used to maintain some level of suspense and not fully reveal the new vehicle before its officially launched.
I love this review! Very detailed and helpful indeed. Quick question, which color do you think suits this X1 Msport better? The Misano Blue or Mineral Grey and why? Am seriously considering a purchase. Thanks!!!
The car looks wonderful. However, I cannot understand how they can leave out Blindspot monitoring. This would make any car without it unacceptable. What a terrible mistake by BMW,
It says (in the video description) what shoes that Thomas is wearing. But, it doesn't say what wristwatch that he is wearing. May I ask what it is? Thanks.
They are both extremely optimized for space. In fact X1 has 40% more cargo space than the GLC. Rear leg rooms is on par with X3 as well. So it hit above its class for space, all while being smaller, much shorter, lighter and more agile.
happycamperjack totally appreciate all of that. Very practical car, I’m sure it’s awesome to sit in and drive. It’s also closer to my budget than a Q3 or X3, so I’d love one! Just haven’t managed to fall in love with how it looks. Looks like a mum car, which I mean they all do... but the new Q3 looks mean, and the X3 is just better proportioned to look like an SUV and not a minivan
JPBD 1990 The Q3 is actually quite a bit cheaper than X1 in my area, but the trunk space is smaller, much slower and fuel economy is terrible too. Doesn’t add up in math for me. As for the X3, I really don’t like the fake side vent and the fuel efficiency is 10+15% lower than X1, not to mention it’s not made in Germany. Personally, if I don’t need that much space, I’d go for a X2, or even the new 1 series, which is basically the smaller X1. Personally I bought a X1 after researching basically all the SUV on the market. Zero regret. I threw in some chip and intakes, now it’s basically a sleeper than can out race most cars from 0-50, and lots of fun in the snow.
I have the 2018.5 X1 and love it. The new navigation screen seems out of place, much prefer the 8.8" unit in the pre-Facelift design that blend with the dash nicely. And, get rid of this ridiculous bra..hmmm..giant grill
I feel like enough power is sent to the rear during turns and launch to make it feel like an AWD instead of FWD. I drive it full time with paddles (extended) in sports mode and some chip and intake. It’s no 3 series, but IMO it’s more capable than 3 series in low traction conditions such as snow or sand.
Carfan678 bmw interiors have been the same for a decade if not more. Just like mercedes using those horrendous number pads even in their extremely expensive models just up until last year
Is just me or the smaller X1,X3 and X4 look better on the exterior design, than the X5/X6? I like the X7 exterior design though... P.S. Looking forward for every episode that Autogefuhl releases...keep it up Thomas. 💪💪💪
New LED and laser lights on the latest BMWs including the G20 3 Series mean that it is no longer necessary to have headlight washers. The previous Xenon headlights legally had to have washers as the light on a dirty headlight would disperse too much and cause glare for oncoming drivers.
@@davidperry3531 Yes, I know that on Xenon headlamp is mandatory to have washers, but what I don't like is that on BMW you don't have this option to equip your car with headlamp washers, and for me this is a necessity to wash my headlamp on a dirty weather; shame on BMW that as soon as some option is not mandatory, from legal point of view, you stopped immediately to offer it, at least as an option (probably due to the cost cut) 👎
@@esilviu2000 I am sure that if BMW deemed them necessary with LED, Laser headlights, then they would offer them as an option but I have the latest G20 and find them unnecessary. In regard to your comment on cost cutting, well here in Australia the new G20 3 Series offers excellent value, with no increase in price compared to the F30 and now comes standard with many features not offered previously or were expensive options.
@@davidperry3531 Yes, as you are from Australia it's clear that you don't need them, but here in Europe with heavy snow we have in winters, I consider them very useful, at least for me; anyway very nice that G20 comes with former expensive options as standard now!
"if you subscribed you know my size". Thomas, you naughty boy. It almost made me unsubscribe... almost, I like the reviews too much to really do that. I get the feeling you are a big fan of the BMW badge, aren't you?
i Love Autogefühl! Too bad BMW makes to many models and are irrelevant. Kudos to Mercedes and the VW group for moving forward while BMW languishes in the past with garbage like this.
Not happy with the stick-up sat-nav/screen it looks like an afterthought. The dark headlining makes for a very dull and dowdy interior, very depressing.

Is there an X1 35i coming? Thanks!
Why isn't the X1 xDrive25e PHEV going to be sold in North America?
lower profit margin, it only exists for EU tax reasons
I think it's because they already sell the MINI Countryman SE All4 here, which is essentially the same car.
This kind of front styling is what they should have gone with in the 1 series imo
