Right? It's insane. I didn't realize that it had been re-released so many times, and since I don't have a copy of Twisted Metal, the card game is the best I can do at the moment. I really would love to try out Yawning portal, seems like such a nice fresh take on a so-often seen IP.
If it were not for the price, I'd be tempted to pick up Car Wars out of shear nostalgia. But I can't justify the cost of a game that I'm fairly sure few of my friends would want to play. As far as recent games are concerned, I had to pick up The Spill. In case I never told you, my degree is in Environmental Engineering (because of where I graduated, Caltech, my studies were probably less engineering and more science than is typical for that degree). In The Spill, there is an oil platform that is leaking all over the nearby beaches, and endangering the wildlife. It's a cooperative asymmetric game where you are trying to clean up the oil and rescue the animals while the leak just keeps spewing more and more oil. It uses a gimmicky device in the center of the board where you drop dice into and where the dice land determines where the oil goes. Now if I can just get it to the table (in other news, I had a request for Formula D and Railroad Ink, so that's on the itinerary for this weekend). Another recent purchase of mine is Splendor: Duel. I absolutely love the game. It's similar to Splendor, only a lot more puzzly and thinky. Fantastic game. It's not brand new, and while it is definitely abstract, it also has kind of a sciency theme which is somehow still appropriate in spite of its abstractness: Cat in the Box. It's a trick taking game inspired by the Shroedinger's Cat thought experiment, where you don't know what suit a card is until you play (and announce it). It just struck me as being so insanely unique and clever that I have to get it. The only kickstarter I'm currently backing is Shake That City. I watched a demo of the game, and it looks like something that is up my alley. There was another kickstarter that I had considered backing that looked really interesting to me -- It's called Tesseract, and it's a dice manipulation game. I'm a sucker for cool looking abstract games. It's definitely a game I want to try at some point. It definitely looks cool. I'm just not sure if it really is as cool as it looks. But it's definitely an upcoming game that I want to know more about.
But Car Wars has to be awesome!! I'll play with you! Somehow! Maybe.... probably not. But I totally would! Do eeeet. The Spill sounds really cool, and even relatively long after the BP spill still very relevant to the environmental leaning we see a lot of games heading towards. I guess it's kinda the hot button topic to go for. Hopefully you'll get it to the table. I've been mixed about Splendor Duel - I'm pretty sure I had it in one of my other videos of this sort, but still have yet to try it out personally. Hoping to be able to still. Cat in the Box is AMAZING. I had talked about that one not too long ago and got to play it at a game night. So much fun and we all had a blast with it. Really do love seeing such innovation in a relatively simple game mechanic/format. I want to get a copy for myself. I'd not heard of Shake That City, but it looks interesting - kind of an odd combination of Kingdomino, Suburbia, and Camel Up. Certainly innovative and hope that it goes over well. Thankfully AEG is solid on KS fulfillment, at least. Tesseract looks like my kind of game as well, Sci-Fi (more sci than fi) theming, unique abstraction and mechanics. Makes me wish I had money :P . I'll have to try and give it a whirl if I get a chance as well. Always with getting more stuff added to my list, you are. Not cool, man. Not cool. But also very cool and thank you :D
Thanks for the endorsement! I'm hoping to give it a try still; one of the folks in my regular-ish gaming group has a copy, and I'm hoping it can hit the table relatively soon.
Nice shirt. Also Faerun is the continent the world is Abeir-Toril, Chult is on Abeir-Toril but not part of Faerun as it is a different continent, kind of D&D Australia.
OK you know what? Boooooo. I don't have time to be looking up correct information and whatnot. Vague recollection is good enough for most of the world, so it's fine for me. And yes, it's an awesome shirt :D
Oh wow car wars, Blast from the past. And the yawning portal sounds like a fun game.

Mind MGMT is going to light up your synapses! It’s a great game and I recommend playing with 4-5 but it’s great at all counts, even solo. 🎉
