  • Automate the formatting of your reports in Excel using Office Scripts in Microsoft 365 and save valuable time. If you are running reports, exporting them to Excel, and then manually formatting them, then watch this video to learn how to use Office Scripts to auto format your reports with the click of a button. Record all the actions you take, like formatting the header row or adding a calculated column of data, and then apply those same formatting updates to your next report with a single click. By automating these boring repetitive tasks, you will gain so much time to spend on more productive tasks!
If you're using the Work version of Microsoft 365, you'll discover the "Automate" tab in Excel. Please note that the availability of the Automate tab may vary based on your organization's settings. If you have access, you can leverage Office Scripts in both the Web and Desktop App versions of Excel 365.
Join me to walk through a real-world scenario. Imagine running a regular HRIS report and exporting it to Excel. Typically, the exported data lacks the desired formatting and additional columns. We'll transform this raw data into a polished, structured report with ease.
I'll demonstrate how to record an Office Script to automate the entire process. Once your script is ready, you'll only need to execute it on new reports. With a single button click, your formatting, header styles, currency conversion, and additional columns will be applied seamlessly.

Is it available on 2021 version 😮

Microsoft made Office Scripts generally available for Excel on the Web app version in 2021. If you have an eligible license, you’ll find the Office Scripts feature-set in the Automate tab in the ribbon. Please note that if you do not have the Automate tab in Excel for the web, your admin may have disabled the feature. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

Hello, why would an ORG block such useful feature?

Hello! There might be security concerns since Office Scripts can execute code, or it can complicate version control and collaboration in shared documents. But hopefully you can access it since it is a great feature. Thanks for watching my videos!

I don't see the automate tab either on 365 or online

    • @SharonSmith

Hello, if you have a Work or Enterprise subscription to 365 then you should be able to go to: File - Options - Customize Ribbon and then on the Main Tabs, scroll down and check "Automate" and then click OK to display the Automate tab. If you don't see it, then your organization may not allow it to be enabled. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

If you have Microsoft 365 (or Excel 2016 for Windows or later versions) then you can access Power Query to automate your data formatting tasks. Very similarly to Office Scripts, the Power Query editor will record the steps you take to "Transform" your data and then apply that to your sheets. Here is an easy Power Query tutorial so you can see how to do that: ruclips.net/video/WvyUtNvG-H8/видео.html Hope this helps!!
