Wow man , coming to this video from way in the future . I'm blown away by how few pedals and guitars are in the background . Same solid helpful info . I always learn just what I need to know about any pedal from Ryan . Thanks , keep em comin .
I have this pedal. I’ve noticed that with the “volume drop” it only occurs once you pass the 12 o’clock position on the volume nob. I think that’s because you’re getting more volume from the delay than the actual attack. You can hear it in this video as soon as he passes half the volume drops.
Oh like your mix is too far on the wet side so you lose dry volume? I have this pedal but the volume drop was too annoying to deal with so lately I've been replacing it with the belle epoch, but I like the look of this pedal a lot and it makes me sad to see it collecting dust
Thank you Paul Anthony for explaining the volume drop... I was just about to I have this pedal. Great demo. Finally got to try one at my local Guitar Center today. I love the sound, especially for the price, but I'm very sad about the volume drop! I can't use it in a live context. First world problems...
I've personally had no problems with the echo, I play Japanese style psychedelic rock. People say that the sound drops off too quickly but I've never had that problem. It's a beautiful little pedal that all should try, keep up the videos my friend 😁👍
Mod switch - "It's a pretty subtle difference", in fact it makes absolutley no difference to the sound. Whether this is a batch maufacturing fault or a case of Emperor's New Clothes we may never know because TC are staying very quiet about it.
Loved this pedal, but had to sell it. The volume drop made it impossible to use for my board. And I am really annoyed of the switch that reacts as a release switch, so there is no 'stomp on'. I hope TC will deal with these issues, because they sound great. Kept the rusty fuzz, because it is so much fun to play, but the switch does not work for me on my board. Cool review!
talking about it on the facebook group, people are reporting volume inconsistencies (low or high) in the rest of the pedal line, this is the first time I've encountered it, but it might be caused by a component variance from pedal to pedal. So maybe try out individual pedals in store before you buy or buy online from someone you can easily return to.
60 Cycle Hum whereabouts did you read this / which Facebook group? Can't find it on yours / TC's, I'm curious to see what other experiences ppl are having since I've been waiting for the Gauss for awhile but the volume drop would also be a deal breaker for me.
Hi Ryan thanks for a great demo with some lovely freaky sounds, I've just bought one of these pedals and I have a question for you and hope you can answer it after you've been trying the pedal for a while. I think I may have some issues with the one that I bought in that when the delay knob is fully left when playing long sustained notes clean or with distortion there seems to be an intermittent shift in the harmonics every few seconds I noticed it when you were playing it as well and is that a design feature in your opinion or just a strange anomaly of the way the pedal works also I noticed that there seems to be a slight warble in the tone whether the modulation switch is on or off did you notice this when you are playing it? Or is that just The way this pedal is supposed to recreate the wow and flutter of a vintage type echo. Not sure if I should stick with it or send it back and try another one to see if there is a fault with this one let me know what you think I'll be grateful for your opinion many thanks Paul
60 Cycle Hum wow that was a quick reply thank you Ryan for getting back so quickly, it's not that I don't like the pedal as I was looking for a vintage sounding echo to replace my worn out WEM Copycat, I just wanted to make sure that what I was hearing was what it was supposed to do rather than being a fault, the only real demo I'd heard with the kind of sounds that I was hearing when I played it was your demo, whereas the other two demos on RUclips don't seem to show that same affect so your demo showed up the way the pedal really does work. I know how unpredictable my copycat could be depending on how clean the heads were and how well the motor was running so I'm used to having some anomalous sounds on my guitar from time to time without expecting it, just wanted to be sure that the one I bought wasn't a dud. Thanks again for your input, cheers.
I'm about to return the one I got to replace my first one. It's one of the better/best tape echo sims I've tried, but the two I've tried had exactly the same problem : loud, unsubtle hiss/noise once you turn it on, and a pretty big volume drop - to the extent that it's unuseable. Damn shame, because it does sound great. (and yes, I've used two different power supplies that more than conform to spec)
You get what you pay for I guess...? If the pedal didn't have those issues, I'd gladly pay up to three times more for a tape echo sim this good with controls that are this simple. Good to hear yours didn't hiss, but even without the hiss, the volume drop would make it unusable in my stage setup.
Hello Ryan. Great channel :) About the volume drop when engage the Gauss, any news about? Maybe a prob with tbp/buffer mismatch? Do you open it, maybe have some internal switch inside the pedal, like de Line6 Echopark!!!! Do you test it with other drives or pedals to check the drop? Thks
Nice review there. Got the Blood Moon phaser and am looking for an echo or delay effect. The fact this also can self oscilate makes it very interesting, as the fact it can do ~2s delay. This line of pedals got me interested in seperate stompboxes again due to price and quality. MultiFX are nice (got a Boss GT-1) but just don't have this hands on feel to it and sound different. Am using the phaser on my Roland vocoder string section (Jean Michel Jarre space sounds). The fact you can use the effect as an instrument wants me to get the Gauss Tape Echo ech ec e...........
I like your reviews, been waiting for this one, thanks. Do the other pedals have the same volume drop(prophet, echo brain) ? How precise are the knobs, could you mark a few positions on a specific tempo for different songs? Cheers
Hey man great demo! Looking into picking up a tape echo pedal, as I design and build an actual EchoPlex from a kit, however I'd rather use the machine I build only in my studio as they're very delicate. But I really dig this pedal. Question.....what guitar is that exactly behind you? The "Flying V"? I love V's I've never seen one.
its hard to know without seeing how you are connecting them. If they are properly powered with batteries or a 9v plug and the cables are plugged in the right way they should work unless they are broken.
FromWitchSide my other choice is an old blood noise delay, I don't mind throwing the money towards boutique pedals but I always keep seeing new stuff pop up and I want them ALL lol
No they don't pay me to do anything, lol. They sent me these pedals because i requested them to demo but there has never been an exchange of money between us. Also they don't tell me what to say or how to present products in any way.
60 Cycle - What a great pedal this is but how ruined it is. The hiss, the volume drop and the useless MOD switch. What the heck were these people thinking? Is there any way, with your clout, you can get TC to fix this pedal. It would be wonderful. Otherwise its a waste.

Oh he talks about this at the 8:26 mark
The mod switch supposed to slide? Or it supposed to click? Just got one and I do hear the change but seemed kinda weird
@@kikogarcia4096 Mine slides. It's not very tactile but there is a sort of click as it goes into position.
@@clutch1141 absolutely, thanks for the input 🤘 mine too
Got mine today and couldn't be happier! Fantastic sound and the pedal is heavy and very well built.

Fab video. Your playing reminds me of Big Country a little
Love your knob twiddling at the start! I think we always forget we can do that sort of thing when playing through pedals.
Gauss is pronounced 'gaʊs' (as in 'house') and is a fundamental property of magnetism, or in this case - magnetic tape echo.
Jawohl
Great demo. Finally got to try one at my local Guitar Center today. I love the sound, especially for the price, but I'm very sad about the volume drop! I can't use it in a live context. First world problems...
I wondering about this. I knew The Drip had a huge volume drop.
Had the same problem with their Vibraclone !
I had the same issue with the fluorescence shimmer, really a shame
the dunlop echoplex seems like a nice option
danieltv123 I actually bought that one. Fantastic pedal!
I've personally had no problems with the echo, I play Japanese style psychedelic rock. People say that the sound drops off too quickly but I've never had that problem.

Like Kikagaku Moyo?
Mod switch - "It's a pretty subtle difference", in fact it makes absolutley no difference to the sound. Whether this is a batch maufacturing fault or a case of Emperor's New Clothes we may never know because TC are staying very quiet about it.
The switch reduses tape rewinding sound simulation
On really long delay times, the effect is quite noticeable
The switch in mine slides instead bof clicking is that normal?

Assuming you ran this between the guitar and amp for the demo. Did you try it in a loop? Was there still the same volume drop?
00:52 smooooooooth
U2 sound. Amazing❤
I've been waiting for this demo a lot, thanks Ryan!
Btw, the volume drop is a dealbreaker for me, too bad :(

its on our facebook group (not page), the post of this video. People are saying they had volume issues with the blood moon phaser.
Love this pedal! I was looking for a cheap but good quality echo pedal like this one. You can do. a lot of u2 and Radiohead songs with this pedal!
Elvis man, Scotty Moore stuff 🤘
I’ve read some reviews that said there was a noticeable volume drop when the pedal is engaged. Any others experience this?
Listen to this review. He exhibits the volume drop
What is the longest time on it? 3:08
Ryan! You rock man! Got the package the other day! Stoked to put the pickup in!
Thank bro
9:40 thanks for pointing out. I've got same opinion. Maybe 10% difference between MOD ON/ MOD OFF.
The volume drop when engaged is maybe a trick to reduce the noticable hiss you get with this pedal. Not so good.
It’s under 60 bucks. It is what it is at the price.
Is normal that the echo gets kinda like a very fast subtle tremolos in long delays?
Hi Ryan thanks for a great demo with some lovely freaky sounds, I've just bought one of these pedals and I have a question for you and hope you can answer it after you've been trying the pedal for a while.

Comedy Boy I think that’s how it does the wow and flutter. If you do t like it I’d say that you should return it.

weird, I'm sad to hear about quality control issues with these pedals. mine doesn't have noticeable hiss or noise, but the volume drop is an issue.

Thanks for the amazing demo Ryann you always demo the gear i'm thinking about getting! ;^)
Were you using the Honeypot Fuzz at the :15 Second mark on the intro? Sounded so good!
Yes he was
Hi ! please can you tell me, can it selfoscillating like the echo brain ?
yes it can :)
I like your reviews, been waiting for this one, thanks. Do the other pedals have the same volume drop(prophet, echo brain) ? How precise are the knobs, could you mark a few positions on a specific tempo for different songs? Cheers
No Credits, I have an Echo Brain and I haven't noticed any volume loss.
Great video, very informative
awesome video. any clue as to how to mod the pedal to decrease or eliminate the volume drop?
I've read that only happens when the effect is louder than the signal, so when the volumen is about 12, shouldn't be no volume drop
@@kikogarcia4096 mmm not my experience
@@garydeems5596 oh man really? I was hoping that was the issue, sucks then, cuzz seems like such a cool echo pedal

Ambiental! 👏👏👏
What would you recommend for the best slapback. This pedal or the analogue echo tc also do?
Jhs Milkman slap/boost
if want to get really really crazy sounds, then put the tc-electronic "Choka' tremoo in front of this Guas tape echo ....
I don't know where I can buy it :(
the volume issue is not good.
Hey i have this pedal and soul food from electro harmonix , but whenever i connect them nothing happens. What am i doing wrong?
its hard to know without seeing how you are connecting them. If they are properly powered with batteries or a 9v plug and the cables are plugged in the right way they should work unless they are broken.
Try a 12v current. Power you’re feeding the pedal with might not be enough.
Nice
Do you know when these pedals will be available? Really looking for another vibe and echo/delay and these might be my cheaper alternative
I don't, soon i hope.
They're already available in the EU, since the 12th of April i believe. They'll probably come to the US soon 👍
If you dont mind more settings and plastic case, then you can buy it as Behringer EM600 Echo Machine, a copy of Line 6
FromWitchSide Some Behringer pedals have huge signal loss / volume drop problems though
FromWitchSide my other choice is an old blood noise delay, I don't mind throwing the money towards boutique pedals but I always keep seeing new stuff pop up and I want them ALL lol
Are you a tc electronic endorser
what do you mean by 'endorser'? are you asking if I recommend the brand in general? or if I am employed by them?
60 Cycle Hum I mean does the company pay you to use there pedals
I like turtles
No they don't pay me to do anything, lol. They sent me these pedals because i requested them to demo but there has never been an exchange of money between us. Also they don't tell me what to say or how to present products in any way.
I mean, who doesn't?
I hate and love how these cheap pedals sound soooo good ,makes me look stupid for spending stupid money on a JHS that sounds just as good
Well you sold me
60 Cycle - What a great pedal this is but how ruined it is. The hiss, the volume drop and the useless MOD switch. What the heck were these people thinking?
Is there any way, with your clout, you can get TC to fix this pedal. It would be wonderful.
Otherwise its a waste.
i don't have that kind of clout, lol. If i did, id probably focus on other things honestly.
I like memes
Spoons and Guitars, we all do.

p.s. rude and nasty comment :)
Finally
This and many other pedals from TC Electronic have a volume drop.. no way to use them live..DONT BUY IT
"This is a rude & nasty comment"
Le guitariste n est pas Super ,donc le test est mauvais !
I stoped at 0-.22 because your overdrive sound is earpiercing.
Man up.
Horrible sounds 👎
