While exploring, the group finds dead squirrels in the woods. Then, Rachel's (Linda Hamilton from Terminator) children are about to jump in a hot spring when Harry (Pierce Brosnan from James Bond and Mamma Mia!) stops them, seeing two people boiled to death in this hot spring. Later, Harry calls his boss to ask for a full team to conduct increased surveillance. Back in town, the local council is arguing about this last news, fearing the decision of the investors.

What’s the movie Dante’s Peak about?
Four years after losing his girlfriend Marianne in a volcanic eruption in Colombia, volcanologist Harry Dalton (Pierce Brosnan from James Bond and Mamma Mia!) is employed by the Cascades Volcano Observatory in Vancouver. One day, after signs of seismic activity were recorded on Dante's Peak, the service sent him on a "routine" monitoring mission, as the volcano was reputed to have been extinct for centuries. Dr. Dalton arrives at Dante's Peak, a small town located at the foot of the volcano. After the discovery of two young men scalded and asphyxiated while swimming in a hot spring on the slopes of the volcano, the service was forced to send a full team to conduct increased surveillance and a series of in-depth measurements. The accumulation of clues showing an imminent awakening of the volcano leads the authorities to consider evacuating the small town in peace. But the eruption and the threat of a pyroclastic eruption caused widespread panic.

This film always made me want to live in a peaceful, quiet mountain town.........one without an active volcano, of course.
The movie was made in a quiet mountain town. There isn't a volcano there. Been through there many times. It is way up there in the panhandle of Idaho. Kind of cold and snowy in the winter months.
@@Ole-Red Since I'm Brazilian, they sure made me fooled into believing this movie was actually filmed under a volcano. Years later did I found out it wasn't the case.

@@josephzielinski8817 it's not the acid that killed the couple it's lava (the lava broached it's way into the hot spring and boiled them as if they were eggs)
This Film Reminds me of the story The Mount St. Helens major eruption of May 18, 1980 remains the deadliest and most economically destructive volcanic event in U.S. history. Fifty-seven people were killed; 200 homes, 47 bridges, 15 miles (24 km) of railways, and 185 miles (298 km) of highway were destroyed.
That's what the movie was inspired by so that's no coincidence
Most destructive so far there gonna be more.

Jokes aside, that's legitimately fucking scary. The worst part is when you imagine what their faces look like after god-knows-how-many days in that lake.

The hotspring isn't acidic. It was ultra heated and burned them. The only acid scene is the lake later
He probably checked the lake offscreen after the hot spring incident.
Harry was talking about the lake near the Grandma’s cabin.
When you watch the film there’s a scene where he checks the acidity in the lake with his meter and he gets high results.
i'm sure it will haunt the boy for the rest of his life, that he could've died in that lake.

You don't see politicians like Rachel Wando anymore. A Mayor that actually cares about her town and her people and only wants to see it grow and achieve the first place as the best place to live in the U.S. She doesn't enrich herself she isn't corrupt and she has her own business to live and afford her family's lives. Which means she's a Mayor because she truly cares about what it means and represents.
She is a small town mayor though...

That couple’s deaths could’ve been fully avoid it. As soon as the water started burning hotter They should’ve gotten out immediately.
That's indeed what's happening in Yellowstone since the late 90's. Some hot springs have become too dangerous for people, but it takes a lot of weeks for the water to get hot enough to scald you like that. Moreover, we're not like boiling frogs.
I saw that scene, and they barely had time to react to the increase just as a lava vent opened directly beneath them.

@yoshitotem My source was a Hollywood Science series from the late 2000s. One of the geologists commenting the movie said that some hotsprings in Yellowstone were closed for being too hot to be visited, let alone being suitable for a bath.
That said, I googled out of curiosity, and there are indeed a few places nearby that are cool.enough to let people have a bath safely, i.e. the Lava Hot Springs and the Boiling River. Not inside the Yellowstone Caldera, mind you, but quite close to the park.

Well, this clip follows a scene where two teenagers go into the hot spring that starts to boil after a lava vent opens up underneath them. This movie might be the one you’re thinking about.

And acidic to. Fumes from tube contain large amount of sulfur dioxide.

Carbon dioxide coming out of volcanic vents would indeed kill squirrels and other animals, but not plants - they would actually thrive. Cool movie though. Most realistic disaster movie out there.
