- This is my one year review for the backhoe. I have gotten a lot of use of it over the past year and thought it was a good time to talk about it some.
I just ordered this a couple of days ago. Thank you for helping me decide, especially which buckets to order. I was already leaning towards that 24 inch for shifting gravel, and the tapered one was intriguing, but I might not have listened to the inner voice had I not seen your video. That thumb seemed pretty dubious too. There has to be a better option! Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing your experiences.
I also have a Jensen digger, I like it.
I bought the harbor freight version. I was wondering what the mounting ear specs were to see if I can adapt a bucket for my needs. What is the pin size, pin center spacing, and width between the mounts? I emailed jansen and they wouldnt give me specs. Simply told me it wouldnt fit my machine.
What would you use the thumb for? With the lack of reach, mobility and boom height I don't see much use for it on mine (different brand, but same machine). I have gotten a ton of work out of mine as well. Once you got it, you will really miss it if is gone. Only replacement would be a tracked one with 360deg swing. But that is a different price level completely.
With the basic controls and rough hydraulics you really learn how to operate an excavator :-) Taking slices of the ground and not filling the bucket, being light on the controls and developing an eye for slope and grading.
I got the big bucket for grading work as well. It is handy if grading but really too heavy for the machine.
Mostly I'd use it for clearing out trails. I'm able to somewhat pick up logs and move them now, but I'd have a lot more control with a thumb. I wish the bolt on one from Amazon fit this machine. It apparently does not.
@@jbmountain4991 Aha. Big woods perhaps? I don't have that on my property here over the pond so did not think of that.
Making and welding on a fitting would be a quick project I think. But certainly not a first welding project. If you are not familiar with welding that is really a great skill to have when you have equipment like this :-)
Thanks for the answer.
@rolfnilsen6385 yeah lots of woods haha. I bought a welder, but I need to practice a lot more before I try anything on this, I am not very good with it lol
@@jbmountain4991 Find somebody to help you get started. It is not hard but the learning curve is much easier if you have somebody correcting you. And it is really worthwhile for us guys messing around with gear like this.
Good videos. Really helps in my understanding of the towable backhoe.
What advantage do you see in the 24" smooth edge bucket?
Thanks for watching! I'm glad it helped. So I'd like to use it for leveling my driveway some, and for scooping gravel. Would also be nice for cleaning up the fire pit. The teeth dig into the ground sometimes when I don't want them to. It's workable but the toothless big bucket would be nice
Did you find a solution to your thumb attachment yet? Would like one but won’t waste my money buying one from Jansen.
How much does this car cost?
The harbor freight one goes 60° each way for a total of 120°
Did you sell yours? If so why please?
Nope! I love this thing. I just haven't made any videos in a bit because my camera broke
@@jbmountain4991 I am glad to hear that. I am placing my order soon. Sold my Ford 9n so now I have room for it in the barn. i got word from the Jansen folks that they redesigned the thumb so it has a boom brace. It will be available in a month or two. Thanks again.
Oh good I'll have to look into that. What a terrible design their original thumb was
Hi, can you help me understand the oil window? I just purchased the MB300 and I've put nearly 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid in the machine and there has been absolutely no change in the oil window. I'm wondering if I just haven't put enough in, or if I'm even looking in the correct place.
Hello, the oil window is where the thermometer is. Was that where you were looking?
@@jbmountain4991 Yes that's where I was looking. I'm guessing I just don't have enough hydraulic fluid in it yet to show.
@cpa4life499 it was about 5 gallons if I remember correctly. Once you see a little in that window stop adding and move the controls around some. It changes a lot as you fill and empty the cylinders. Then see if you need to add more
I'd like to have one.
Do you have any review of actually digging with this machine?
I have plenty of videos with it digging on here. Not sure what you mean.
👍
You need a microphone! Very hard to hear you.
I would advise staying away from this company, The customer service sucks after it’s warranty is expired. Your better off buy a Northern Tool. Customer service will be much better!!
You like to be on TV
i though the thumb was supposed to have a brace welded to the boom and have a pin to adjust or move back out of the way when not in use
You would think so!
