Bought a new one (1974 model) in early '75 at a Suzuki dealership in Berkeley, California when I was in the Navy. They weren't well known or popular then. Paid $2,700 for it. Put around 15,000 miles on it, went through a few sets of valve guides and had some electrical issues (Magnetti Marelli, the Italian version of Lucas) along the way. Steel tank, non-painted engine. The Conti pipes produced some wonderful sounds. Sold it 6 years later when we bought our first house. First guy to respond to the classified ad was the salesman who sold it to me. Listed for $3,000, didn't budge on price, thought I'd done well. Told him at least he got a test ride, something he hadn't offered me.
My husband bought his new 1974 dual seat Sport in September 1975. We have a collection of 10 motorcycles including other Ducatis, Triumphs, a Bimota & others. He says the Sport will be the last bike he ever sells & he certainly has no intention of selling it as makes him feel 22 again whenever he takes it for a ride.
I bought one new in 1975, when I was 18, I remember it cost & 1,400 from motorcycle City. When I picked it up I pointed out that the handbook was in French, the salesman said "that's wierd, they are normally in Italian" what is fun is yours is exactly the same spec. Fibre glass tank (actually illegal in 1995) Single disc and black cases. Lovely bike, horribly unreliable, broke down in almost every country in Europe.
Hi Tony, apologies, only just seen your comment, mines got the steel tank, mines been extremely reliable, but then I have replaced all the dodgy Italian electrics! You must have been rich in 1975!
What a wonderful motorcycle, never had one and probably never will ... but just to still can see it is fantastic!
