    I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

      I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

    As an lnvesting enthusiast, I often wonder how top level investors are able to become millionaires off investing. . I’ve been sitting on over $545K equity from a home sale and I’m not sure where to go from here, is it a good time to buy into stocks or do I wait for another opportunity?

      I think the safest strategy is to diversify investments. Like spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown.

      A lot of folks downplay the role of advlsors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. She's helped grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from $275k to $850k.

    Building wealth involves developing good habits like regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. Instead of trying to predict and prognosticate the stability of the market and precisely when the change is going to happen, a better strategy is simply having a portfolio that’s well prepared for any eventually, that’s how some folks' been averaging 150K every 7week these past 4months according to Bloomberg.

      The US-Stock Mrkt had been on it’s longest bull-run in history, so the mass hysteria and panic is relatable considering we’re not accustomed to such troubled mrkts, but there are avenues lurking around if you know where to look. My husband and I are retiring this year with over $7,000,000 in tax deferred investments. up until 3 years ago we were 100% in the S&P. During bear markets we had a perfect plan. We got an investment manager in our corner and didn’t look at our portfolio for nearly a year.

    Hi Tom, great video and very to the point. Trying to understand the £20k limit a bit better:
    1. Say i add £20k to my ISA by the end of the tax year, do I have to then take that £20k out of the iSA and into a generic savings account to then starting adding in more money to the ISA and avoid the tax? Or can you keep adding money in and it won't be taxed (i.e. be able to reach £40k in the isa by the next tax year, then £60k etc.)
    2. Does the money you make from the investments count towards the £20k tax-free amount? So if i added £10000 and had a £1000 return would the overall balance be £11000 meaning i can only add £9k more in that tax year?

    • @ThatFinanceShow
      @ThatFinanceShow  2 года назад +16

      1. No, you can leave it in and keep adding to it when the allowance is renewed. People have hundreds of thousands in ISAs built up over many years.
      2.No, the £20k allowance is capital added by you - not the return on your investments.

    Nice informative video on Stock and Shared ISA.I have some basic questions after watching this video.1. Let's say, I made an investment of 10K on a current financial year in a stock and shares ISA ,does it only give me tax benefit from the capital gains and Dividend income made from that 10k investment I made or i am entitled to get tax benefit on the 10k invested amount also? 2. Does annual allowance 12,300 means you don't need to pay any tax on your capital gain on a financial year in UK if the gain is less than £12,300 and ISA account holder will only benefit when his or her gain is over 12,300 limit in a financial year?

      When investing your capital is at risk so yes you can lose money. In order for your money to go to 'zero' the investment has to be worthless, i.e you put it on one stock and the business goes bust. This is where diversification and investing in lots of different assets helps to protect you.

    my friend into pension time pays so much fees on his pension so he is prepared to take lump sums and put them on isa. He can do 2 years of £20k as tax allowances on isa. However when he will get (if he gets) dividends from stocks, do these dividends count against the tax allowance £20k? Let's figure out that he puts straight away £20k, then maybe he will get £2k as dividend for the same tax year (that is before 5 April 2023) or even perhaps capital return such as what Aviva did this year. In these cases how can he calculate and what will happen if he does not take the money to his nominated current bank account? Does it mean that the £2k dividend he will receive from his stocks this year will be deducted from the £20k he wants to put into the S&S Isa next year? Otherwise he's got to put less money into the S&S isa but it is soooo difficult to figure out in advance how much dividend he is likely to receive ultimately? Your guidance would be useful. Many thanks in advance.

      Hi there. I can't give advice here - it really sounds like your friend should speak to a financial adviser. Dividends received on investments held in an ISA don't count towards the annual allowance though I can tell you that much .

    Hi , I have been paying into a stocks and shares isa this tax year , can I do a transfer to another broker in the same tax year and close the current one and then start funding the new one, or do I need to wait until April to do a transfer now.
    I have just tried to do a transfer with interactive brokers and got the message " you can only contribute to one stocks and shares ISA per tax year" and I can't seem to get clarification on the rules online.Thanks

    Hi Tom,
    New to Stocks and shares ISA so a quick question hopefully you can help with.
    Say I deposit 20k into a stocks and shares ISA and invest in a single stock and then sell for 25k within the same tax year am I then okay to re-invest that 25k into another stock and so on and so on or once I buy/sell the full value of 20k im then done

    • @ThatFinanceShow
      @ThatFinanceShow  Год назад +1

      Yes the allowance is on money entering the ISA, not what happens once the money is in there

    Great video. Quick question from an investing noob who just bought my first stock. Can I have 2 separate stocks and shares ISA's with 2 different brokers (in my case, Fidelity and Freetrade?)
    I want to use Fidelity for my mutual fund investments and freetrade for stocks.

    • @ThatFinanceShow
      @ThatFinanceShow  2 года назад +1

      You can’t put money into 2 different ones in the same tax year. You could put money into one this year, leave it there and then find a different one from April next year in the new tax year

    People beware of these regular investment calculators. The word COULD should be taken seriously. I’ve paid £450 per month for 16 years into a stocks and shares ISA. I’ve never taken anything out yet I have less in there today than I put in! Better off letting my money snooze in a no interest bank account!! 16 years Negative return!!

    Thanks Tom. If you're lucky enough to have more than £20k a year to invest in funds, is there another tax-efficient way to do it? Or is it a case of using a non-ISA investment account, and using techniques like splitting any capital gains over different tax years etc?

    Hi. Great video. Thanks. Quick Q. If you max out allowance one year (not that I can! Just hypothetical for my understanding), then open another ISA next year does your original ISA still benefit from all the same things even though you would no longer be contributing to it/have over 20k in ISAs? Is the 20k just an annual allowance? Is it only the current years ISA that benefits from the terms of the wrapper? If not, can the terms of the ISA change after the first year? Thanks!!

    • @ThatFinanceShow
      @ThatFinanceShow  2 года назад +2

      Yep, it still benefits. You can only put in £20k of your money into the ISA each year, how much you build over time is limitless and it all still benefits from the tax advantages. So you can have £1million in ISAs for example over time and it would all still benefit. Hope that answers the question!

    If you reinvest the dividends in an ISA account does that mean they count towards the annual allowance? For example if your dividend payments are 100£ per month which are getting reinvested you should have in mind that your allowance will become 20.000-1.200=18.800?

    • @ThatFinanceShow
      @ThatFinanceShow  11 месяцев назад +2

      Nope the allowance is for new money you contribute, not dividends reinvested.

Haven't touch it at all since. Moneybox will report to HMRC my activity right? Expecting a bit of a tax bill come April. But can I take that money out to use else where? Thanks for any help!

      Hi Liam, HMRC used to have (I think they still do) have an ISA helpline, they should be able to guide you. Won't be a huge problem though I wouldn't think. All that usually happens is they need to work out what tax you saved that you shouldn't have.
