Hi Nikki: I was previously able to use a magic ring but then broke my pinky finger on my left hand last year. This has caused me to have to change the way I hold my yarn and it made making the magic ring nearly impossible. I tried your alternative method and it works great! I think it even looks better than a lot of my magic rings did! Thank you so much for sharing this method. Now I feel confident in crocheting things in the round again, knowing that the hole in the center will be nice and closed up! 🙂
Thank you so much for this video! It seems much easier now! I have finally made 1 magic circle by accident and Janet in my new group posted this for me to see! Wow! I have a little time before work to try this again! Thank you!!!
Deborah, I hope this helped you. This week, while waiting for my turn for a lab test, I was crocheting and a woman nearby asked, "Is that a pumpkin?" I told her yes, I've become obsessed with making them. She said she crocheted too and was excited that she finally learned to make the magic ring, but with difficulty. I told her about this video and had to quickly find it before my name was called. Yes, seconds later my name was called and I said, "just a minute, I have to find something for this woman." she must have thought I was nuts.
I don't have a problem with doing one but usually do it with double because I don't want it to come undone. But I had a thought while watching this, doing it like this would be good for messy buns or scrunchies that start with crocheting around an elastic. If you carried the yarn like that around and just didn't pull it tight, then if the elastic breaks, the article won't fall apart you could just thread more elastic through and would be good as new.
T this video didn't help at all I thought it would be a good way to not do the magic circle but you did it so fast I am a starter so I didn't really know what to do and this didn't help me at all..
Did this video help you? Let me know below
Good to know there is an alternative.
