I’m a firm believer in maintaining my tools. I still have a Kitchenaid stand mixer my parents gave to me the Christmas I was 35 (when they were still made by Hobart in the U.S.). I’m now 67. It has been overhauled twice, works beautifully, and survived 25 years of frequent moves - one overseas - while my husband was in the Army. My father taught me: always buy the very best, maintain it properly, and it will serve you very well. It will be expensive upfront, but will save you money in the long run.
That's a fabulous approach, and sage advice from your father. Thanks for sharing.
Did you overhaul it yourself or send it to someone?
@@latui7350 I didn’t do it myself, rather had it professionally done. Can’t remember the business names, as they were in different states and many years ago. Last year I saw someone’s video about how she took her mixer apart, then cleaned and oiled it. Not sure I’d suggest doing that unless you’re a really good appliance repair person, but it was interesting.
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking Dad owned a very small carry-out pizzeria. Everything was made by hand, which naturally included the dough. He had a freestanding, commercial Hobart mixer. It was built like a tank and lasted for ever! One day, Hobart stopped making replacement parts for the very old models. Equipment repair businesses had to scrounge for parts, and buy used mixers to cannibalize. Finally, no one was able to keep that beast running any longer. Dad had to buy a newer one. He bought it used, but said it was never as good as his really old Hobart.
@@sharonandrews4910 I remember seeing someone in Florida a long time ago that would refurbish them. I was scared of the shipping cost at the time because those mixers are really heavy haha

Hi Elly, I have the same stick blender! Thank you for the cleaning instructions.
Your instruction has been invaluable and your technique is intelligent and inspiring.
Thank you for the pumice video. i absolutely love making hot process soap with pumice powder, in addition to the kaolin clay. No surprise, I very much look forward to your hot process videos.
Again, thank you so much. 💛 USA
Hi Elly. Thanks for this video. My mum bought me a Bamix stick blender when I had my first child (32 years ago now). The Bamix stick blender didn't come apart in two. However, the blades could be removed and changed depending on the application. When it started making a screeeeeching noise when I was using it, I'd take of the blade so it was just the post spinning and put a few drops of oil while it was inverted. Worked a treat. End up it only worked on one speed and I bought a Thermomix so didn't feel the need to keep it (pre soaping days). So just thought I'd share how I did it with a non-separating type stick blender. Of course you couldn't do it if the blade wasn't removable. Although you could turn it off, put a drip of oil down inverted shaft then turn it on to get the oil to run down.
Great info, thanks for sharing
Thanks Elly! Always look forward to your videos. Full of good tips.

Thank you Elly really kind of you. Great tip!
So happy to see another video from you!❤
Yay! Thank you!
Great video x
Great tips! I always soak the last little bits of soap off my blender head because it’s such a pain to clean after soaping! Now I know not to!! It’s only 3 years old, but there’s no reason that it can’t last with proper maintenance! Would love more tips like this - you always manage to think outside the box and share tips that no other soaper thinks of! It’s awesome.
Thanks Kelly. To be honest, I do sometimes soak my blender for brief periods, but I prefer to get some really hot, soapy water and blast it in that as soon as I've finished soap making - that cleans it off quite well. The trick is not to wait until the soap hardens!
Thanks for the tip
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!
Thank you I appreciate the video and your time for giving us this advice. 😊🌹
Thank you!
Super duper helpful, thank you!! ❤
You're so welcome!
Very helpful video Elly! I had no idea these blenders could or need to be oiled, I also am very guilty of long soaking mine after soaping, so I will head your advice and stop doing that. Thanks so much for posting this quick tip video!
Thanks for the tip, Elly. Also didn't know I shouldn't soak it in water.
Well, you can soak it for a brief period if you need to, but I would rather clean it straight away before the soap hardens and let it dry. The longer it stays soaking the more water will get into the shaft, causing rust.
Thanks for the tip. And yeah, not overheating your electrical appliances is a sound advice.
Thanks, will try it. 😆
Thanks Ma for sharing your are really amazing ❤❤
Fantastic advice!
Thanks Belinda! :)
Great tip, thanks Elly.
You're welcome Aannsha :)

Elly, how did you know I needed this exact bit of knowledge today!? Haha! It's like you read my mind lol, I have two stick blenders & both of them sound like evil dolphins laughing at me lol. I was just about to make a batch but was going to try to search your old videos because I knew you'd talked about this before. You saved me searching, thanks so much legend! Holly x
Now both of my old stick blenders can live a long and fruitful life lol.
I think this is not the first time that I have read your mind?! 😅 Glad you enjoyed this Holly! (I still think of you as 'Boop'!)
Thanks Ellie! ❤
No problem 😊
After long time Elly, thanks for the tips.
You're welcome Prem :)
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was wondering how you oiled the stick blender!
You are so welcome!
An evil laughing dolphin 🐬 😂 that sounds like a sight! Yikes! Hahahaha you're hilarious! Thanks for sharing I really enjoy your videos 😊
Thank you. I was feeling a bit extra silly today! Why not. It's important to have a laugh sometimes.
Very helpful and definitely not addressed before that I know of! Hugz, Tree
Glad it was helpful :)
Thank youeeeee...🙃🙂
No problem 😊
Hi Elly, in case you read this. Yesterday I made orange zest cold process soap. This morning I noticed it’s leaking oil. What could be the reason? I had 40% lye concentration, 1000g of different oil and a bit of fragrance oil. Plus 5% of super fat.
Hey Elly nice to see u after long. Btw Wondering about the place where have you shot this video? It's not the usual place
Thanks Joya! I did a couple of videos last month, did you not see them? This video is in my kitchen, just a new angle :)
Yeah missed a few. Ohh looks different.
Hi mam shall i use bioenzyme in soap making
Can i use sewing matchine oil in blender blade???
Yes, that's what I used.
❤
Dune! Thanks
I want a soap making note book.
Can your give me any ?? Please
"Doctors hate this one simple trick!"
Tool oil only please. Other oils can leave residue that can corrode internal components. WD40 is not for tool maintenance it is for door hinges and bolts. As a gormer factory worker i learned the hard way that there is a difference between the tools maintained by proper tool oil last longer and work better than tools that were haphazardly maintained by WD40 and other substitutions.
Thank you for sharing!
Whatever you do, NEVER USE ‘BABY OIL’ ON BABIES! (J’s) As Elly suggests probably it’s best usage is to lubricate your stick blender ; ) ; ) Does 3-in-one still exist? That would be good for your stick blender methinks ; ) ; ). Again, definitely not for babies 😊
