Alchemy is actually what you would call a dead science. We still have the textbooks. It's not so much that it was an incorrect science as it was inferior to chemistry. Compared to chemistry it was basically finding random chemical reactions and then utilizing them for profit.
I mean there's definitely some natural aptitude needed. For example, if he were naturally accident prone and uncoordinated he wouldn't have any fingers left after attempting this for so long 😅

I had some amazing dandelion clocks in my garden so I sprayed them with hairspray and put them in a vase .The next day the stems had wilted so I put some thin wire up the stems . They lasted a long time !🙂
