There are lots of German names around Quosi/King William Town, including Berlin. The British recruited German mercenaries for the Crimean War, but it finished in February 1856. So, they sent these troops to KWT as reinforcements for the troops fighting the 7th Xhosa War, But that is pretty much over by then too. So, there are lots of young men in KWT with not much to do beyond drinking and fighting (not just against the Xhosa). G-g-grandfather has been shipped out with other British soldiers to reinforce the Cape Mounted Rifles in 1852, but there is a plan to take a boatload of Irish women aboard the Lady Kennaway to KWT - as servants for British officers and colonials, but also to be wives for these wild Germans to calm them down a bit. G-g-grandfather got in first with one, but many did marry Germans and they stayed in SA to establish these places with German names.

For those wondering the song at 18:10 is a remix of Above and Beyond - Air for Life. I'm really not sure which remix it is, as it is a tiny bit muffled (on purpose Noraly? ;) ), but yeah. The original is just as good, even though the first part might be more upbeat than the remix :D Oh and thank you for a wonderful video once more Noraly! :D
I think its the Airwave Remix. *as it is a tiny bit muffled* . you're right, and Noraly did a nice balance on the sound... only reason for mentioning that because when played in the background, I thought the track playing was Beautiful Strange by Bedrock ( watch?v=XXteZElUo_4 ) until I read your comment with the actual track name
The local people there seem so friendly and happy and they have almost nothing and live with chickens running around in their huts. Shows us how much we take for granted in the 1st world.
They could go on like this for the next millennium - whereas we may be killing the planet with our ultra consuming lives. When will we stop growing our numbers and start to stabilise and gradually reduce our populations? Vital right now!
I have been enjoying the whole trip, but especially the past few days. You have a great way with people, and learning about the local cultures makes this so interesting.
Being old enough to have done most of my trips with maps and sign reading this modern GPS technology still amazes me, how much it has opened possibilities for travel. We used to spend a lot of time being lost and trying to find the right way and trips were nothing like this back then. So a great improvement, which I now also use both with bike and car. What a trip you´ve had so far, hope it continues like this. And these recordings are really fantastic. Hope that there are plenty more to come.
Gather around every one, its the Angel called Noraly...she has come to Cast the SPELL OF LOVE upon you all 😊. This is one of the most beautiful and memorable selfies to date. Ride on the Good Ride 👍
Minor correction. There are no female angels. Although angels are genderless, when the come to earth, they only represent themselves in male form. Those who consider angels as female, in quran 37:150, Allah (swt) warns people not to view angels in female form.
@@hano552 Ahem. My take on such things is.... NO mere mortal cam claim with certainty what is actually true in the spirit world. All we each have is what we suspect is true and/or what we believe is true and/or what we have been taught is true. All of this comes down to faith, not facts. No one can ACTUALLY prove what is true about the world of the spiritual. 🙂 ...Although many humans, our whole world over, claim to KNOW, in reality they do NOT know, but rather they BELIEVE what they do. 🙂😉
@@DLionheart Yes, that is correct. It applies equally to those who believe God exists and those who believe God doesn't exist. BTW, Mo is a Muslim, so I'm trying to point out to him that God says it angers Him when people assume angels to be female.

It is shocking to see how these people are so friendly and welcoming. In contrast with here in the 'developed west' where we have everything and it is not enough, and we judge others from 5 miles away. Made me cry a little actually. Love your videos, keep them coming!
@JT I find what you say a bit contradictory ... Do you have any idea how judgemental "us civilized" people are when encountering something they rarely or even never see?
@JT thank you for proving my point 😂
I just really got up from the office chair to help Noraly with the chain, when I realized she only was in the video. It's so realistic :)))
Or you were being so silly. 😁
@@jayarr614 I don't think it's silly to reflexively try to help others.
@@grabak6668 With you behind a screen probably roughly half our planet's circumference away, it is. Nice but silly. Sillyness is nothing one needs to be ashamed of. ☺️
And I was waving to the women that were waving from the roadside.
Right? LIke all of us leaning in our chairs to help her away from cliff edges. :D
Laughing and not taking life so seriously is key to life .. I smiled this entire vlog 💓☺💕
Thank you for helping people to be more conscious about privileges that we have 🙏
You do such a fantastic job editing. I think I might just go out and buy a 60 inch TV just for your videos
Watching from Thailand, this episode is real South Africa.
I wondering if I missed part of your video didn’t see you saying goodbye to your wonderful tour guide such a beautiful soul she so honest and sincere that’s vibe I got.
Yeah, I was expecting that part too and thought they would've been waiving to Noraly when she was leaving....
@@belanagy5595
Something must have gone wrong she didn’t explain I had enjoy watching her interaction with the tribe. Didn’t end well
@@paulgray7203 Yeah, don't know, she's just a kind and lovely woman. Maybe people there would expect some extra funding from her? Who knows....
@@belanagy5595
She should have kept us view’s in the loop I guess that’s how it is
11:45 what precious moments!!! Beautiful!
“Aaand then my battery died.”
Ok I was not expecting that 🤣😂😅
I loved the helmet reveal reaction by all those girls. That was awesome 👏
For those wondering the song at 18:10 is a remix of Above and Beyond - Air for Life. I'm really not sure which remix it is, as it is a tiny bit muffled (on purpose Noraly? ;) ), but yeah. The original is just as good, even though the first part might be more upbeat than the remix :D
Oh and thank you for a wonderful video once more Noraly!
Shows how much you don't really need. Too many of us confuse want with need.
They could go on like this for the next millennium - whereas we may be killing the planet with our ultra consuming lives. When will we stop growing our numbers and start to stabilise and gradually reduce our populations? Vital right now!
People live with dogs in their bedrooms
I had the experience of living in that way in my childhood and it was the best part of my life
@@thetessellater9163 ah,my kindred friend....
The way Noraly waves at everyone and everyone waves back you'd get the feeling that she's a local. Sweet humanity.
I have been enjoying the whole trip, but especially the past few days. You have a great way with people, and learning about the local cultures makes this so interesting.
Good morning Noraly. Just have to say how wonderful your new adventures in South Africa are. Stay safe, keep well, and happy trails!
Itchy Boots (Noraly) ...she who brings smiles. Worth many goats!
Omg I was bursting to see all those girls they are ADORABLE and FUN!
I still prefer maps.
The scene where you stopped for those girls on the road was wonderful!
Mo - What a BEAUTIFUL thing to say!! Loved it. 🙂
@@DLionheart Yes, that is correct. It applies equally to those who believe God exists and those who believe God doesn't exist.
BTW, Mo is a Muslim, so I'm trying to point out to him that God says it angers Him when people assume angels to be female.
@@hano552 Altho I respect your point, I am secular. When some one does GOOD I call them Angel, regardless of male or female 😊
We grew up walking and we got used to it, imagine walking those to and from school for 4 schooling terms and its just a normal thing for us🇿🇦
These people have the healthiest looking teeth and mouths I've ever seen. Envious of those dental genetics! What wonderful smiles and happy people.
Too bad I can only give you “ thumbs up “ once. This chapter was great. Thank you
Love from Myanmar Rohingya staying in Malaysia 👍❤️
Noraly - you bring so much JOY to the world, wherever you go! For me, you bring JOY and Education!
Another great view of South Africa!
Hey, Noraly! You must have known by now that your joy instantly becomes our joy. Well, of course, I cannot speak on behalf of thousands of viewers, but that's what I hope, at least.
Long may you ride, float, flit - as you wish. All safe, all well.
Smiling and waving from Istanbul.
The joy you bring to others 🙌🏻💛
Wow, I love the wild coast. I stayed in Port St Johns, just north of where you stayed, in 1991. We drove through Transkei, as it was called then. I remember those big brightly coloured rondavels, often larger buildings than in other parts of Africa. I rode my bike in South Africa 3 year's later, but didn't go back through Umtata area.
You are a eternal traveler who makes people smile at any place you stay.
The Encounter with the Local Girls was such a heart warming moment. You have a very rare and beautiful opportunity to touch the lives of People you may never see again. That's an Idea .... Itchy Boots Returns. which Road would you repeat ???
Ride hard 👊 Ride safe....😷take care..stay safe 😷
How telling, however, is the spontaneous reaction from the wonderful children.
The people there seemed very friendly. And I like that music you play norley
This scene with the selfies is so beautiful
Just checked Google maps - you are only 25km north of KWT, so this is just the kind of country g-g-grandfather would have been riding through - on a horse of course! Fascinating for me. 👍
Seeing the world with your eyes is a thousand times better than any dream.thank you noraly for your interesting videos.🎉
Your Joy and Enthusiasm is infectious. Those kids were over the moon. I wanted this video to last longer. Bless You
You did look shattered at the end.
✊🏻❤️
Xhosa is a beautiful experience 😍 ❤
Just beautiful children, country side and animals. Thank you for bringing us along on your newest journey, Noraly and Savanah.
Cool ending! Laughed out loud :D What an episode, I think I'll have to watch it again 'cos it was so awesome!
Hello from Germany. I've devoured all of your episodes I'm happy that you keep doing it. I wish you all the best for the future
Best Ambassador a country could have! ˋ itˋs a woman ´ ! Thank you Noraly.....
YOU are one special Woman, I love youre respect for other people and the mutual respect you get, keep on doing what you do
That place is beautiful. The Bulungula place..❤️
I have just bought a CRF 250 to explore the green lanes of Shropshire which I have been meaning to for years. Wishing I was in warmer South Africa. Thanks for just doing it, and brightening my day, week and years. Keep it going and have fun. If you ever tour England, come to Shropshire !
You clearly have a faculty for languages of which I am envious. South Africa is beautiful to say the least and you are on the perfect bike; no need for a GS size machine.
This is no doubt the best series of videos you have given us. The people are wonderful, Savanna is taking good care to get you where you want to go. You take good care of yourself Noraly. Be happy, be safe..👍😊
Ever since I started watching this awesome and mysterious channel. I have developed this mindset that I still have a lot to see and right now I don't have to worry about anything. I owe myself to the world. Thank you Itchy boots 🥺🎉🎉🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
These last episodes, best yet! Love the interactions with the locals! 🥰
The people are very nice there, life is simple and the scenery is great, it would be hard to leave there.
