    Good one! Ozone keeps getting better. The Assistant keeps getting smarter. Spend time learning this tool and save $$$ on sending tracks to a mastering service. The main drawback I see is that you will probably be monitoring in the same basement studio that you mixed in...

    It seems that there's a little cannibalization between spectral shaper, balancer and clarity module. They are very similar but it was like "we developed it, so put it into like we offer more modules"

    • @Corpsegrinder_69
      @Corpsegrinder_69 Год назад +5

      Well, it started as Low End Focus at first, then they tried to apply it for higher frequencies with different algorithms and when you look at them, one would really prefer different options for different frequency bands. And you can argue it could be in just one module anyways, but that would also mean an increased latency even if you just needed one thing out of those three. And latency and loading times already are not the strongest suite of Ozone.

    Have Ozone 9 but unless you are into the spectral and tonal shaping tools i don't see a lot here that improves. I see the constant gain is added to maximiser which would be the main addition. Ozone's pretty alright! I actually hate the UI though because a lot seems to go on under the hood and the spectraliser lacks graph lines, EQ selection is all over the place and covers the graph or other EQ points and gets annoying, then it adds bands when you try and click out.
    RE: the constant gain. I have to manually do this in O9. Its got 'gain match' but it does so by boosting the unprocessed track ffs. Then it clips so you have to turn down the output. If you have other track plugins like i do i then have to compare the output outside of ozone to get a true idea of starting point vs. final master.
    Exciter i think is marvellous on either triode setting. I use that on individual tracks. I don't know of another tube plugin that quite does what it does for low end instruments.
    I quite like Vintage Tape but again, i'd rather use it on individual tracks. Does weird things removing sub or re-eqing tracks too much for a master. I'll still to Kazrog True Iron for the buss.
    Unfortunately this is a complete CPU killer. I got their 'imager' as standalone for free. I wish these were available as separate when you get Ozone so the whole suite doesn't need to be run just to stick exciter on the kick!
    Vintage Comp is well fluttery, and doesn't sound like any other vintage comp plugin i have. I can't ever get any character out of it myself... I'll stick to the Kazrog true dynamics or other vari-mu emulations for glue. If its other dynamics then the 'dynamics' one can be fine- nothing that special but not fluttery like the other.
    Maximiser: IRC II rules usually. I feel the later numbers are adding things other than limiting or being too clever, less transparent, more fluttery, and have multiband in. III can work but i tend to select between. I'll ignore the descriptions though: 'pumping' worked great for acoustic folk, but not for anything i wanted to 'pump' like techno haha.
    There is no clipper? Maybe in 11. I find it important to get a transparent balance of clipping and limiting if any large amount of gain reduction is needed (usually when track is highly dynamic like post-rock)

    @nickmessitte1721 Год назад +14

    Couple more things -
    IRC 4 uses a certain amount of multiband processing before the limiter and under the hood to aid in transparency.
    Stereo independence controls on the maximizer aren’t necessarily for favoriting a left or right part of the tune in like a 6os style stereo panning scheme. Rather, these controls are designed to help you optimize stereo width and loudness for your particular track. These controls aren’t localized to ozone - you get them in fabfilter and DMG as well.

    I don't really get ozone. It was included in the NI komplete edition i purchased in spring of this year. I'm producing, mixing and mastering my own tracks in one go. Usually i use ozone 10 on the "mastering" channel so after all the mix busses w compressors etc. The only plugin after ozone is then the tdr limiter ge because i know how to use this limiter and it offers all the functionalities i need for final limiting. It's kind of a weird spot because all the functionalities ozone offers i can adress directly at the source. Yes, sometimes it's easier to just eq the whole thing w ozone instead of fiddeling with the bus/channel eqs. But most times ozone for me is just a "second pair of ears" that makes suggestions on what to adress in the mix. Idk how do other people use ozone? Ideas r welcome :)

    • @RokSivante
      @RokSivante 4 месяца назад

      Some use it as an all-in-one mastering tool; some rely more heavily on its AI assistant features… personally, I find its value for me more with its modules.
      Like, Impact in particular works quite nice for some subtle yet significant tweaks that nothing else in my toolbox can. And the limiters work quite well - especially since I ditched Slate’s subscription so no more of their FG-X. I’ve used a few others at times, but typically use other plugins that’d do the same as other modules (i.e. Pro-MB & Shadow Hills for multiband & compression, Pro-Q for EQ). Sometimes Low Impact adds a nice extra touch. Sometimes using Imager or Exciter on individual tracks work quite nicely. Or even just testing what small tweaks can be made at the end with these tools produces great subtle touches might not have otherwise gotten.
      Just upgraged from 10 to 11 though as seems the Clarity module and the Transient/Sustain features even just by themselves will likely get some of my mixes that extra 10% that makes it worthwhile. Similar to how The God Particle and Kraftur were pretty big game-changers - small stuff that makes a BIG difference once finding a flow with ‘em.
      though at the end of the day, it's just another set of tools - ultimately comes down to how you choose to utilize them, whether together or individually, for whatever fits one's particular needs & flow.

    • @billpodolak7754

      Ozone has three options for the multiband crossovers - Digital (which is linear phase), Analog (which is minimum phase) and the default Hybrid (which has the perfect reconstruction of linear phase with lower latency)

    The Vintage Limiter on Modern mode with a pretty small Character is the stupidiest thing to get loud master. I never been so loud since I use Vintage + Maximizer (and of course a well done mix that allows loudness material). But Also, I love how the vintage limiter sounds, only having 0.3dB of gain reduction, get a decent loudness is something I love. To me it's on every master I do and also some mixes just to make sure I can go loud without over limiting my output. This really is something.

Je kan ook een Revolut account starten, je Euro’s omzetten naar dollars en de update in dollars kopen. In dollars is de update $149, dat is zo’n 139 Euro dus ook goedkoper.
