Could this black void effect be recreated at night? Just filming at complete darkness and an overhead softlight? Or is it best to stay in an enclosed space?
Thank you man! You had mentioned the need for back-lighting; if one want's to capture reflections, how would they achieve this effect without getting the back-lights in frame?
Hey Rex! That will vary quite a bit, depending on the situation, but you can accomplish this in several ways! Maybe hang the lights from the ceiling, use a wall-spreader, c-stands, or a couple combo stands with a crossbar, as we did for the top-down light. Hope that helps!
I was talking with a DP friend and he told me he’s shot some black void scenes as green screen since it’s a way to avoid certain pitfalls of the stage and some limitations, so there’s probably ways to use post techniques to enhance it
Hey, this video is great! I can't tell if you used a black backdrop or if that was all in camera settings for the complete blackness in the background? Also, would a 10x10 be ideal for water reflections and how did you get the water out? Overload of questions, I know haha but I'm curious.

I'd be curious to see if anyone has achieved this look just using post production techniques.
