  • I decided to make this a #storytime video for a reason. I'm hoping that even if you have a shadow of a doubt, this video will clear them.
I am quite descriptive and elaborate in my accounts of why I started the curly girl method. Before I started CGM, I watched videos like these when I was trying to figure out if my hair was curly. Without other creators making videos like these, I wouldn't have ever stopped to think that this could be a reality of my hair.
When your hair is curly(3a, 3b, 3c) or kinky (4a,4b, 4c), you have a very good idea of your hair texture. However, when you have wavy hair, its easy to miss the signs. Sometimes you can live your entire life without realizing that you have Curly/Wavy Hair.
This is a 2 part video. I've tried to be as elaborate in my accounts in the hope that my experiences could stir some of you in the right direction.

I remember I had watched so much content in the initial cgm discovery stage, I felt like I know how to go about it but couldn't relate to any content creator even though I found girls having curl type similar to mine because they were using products from international brands plus they had been following CG for years. And that's how I found your first Curly hair routine video. I had watched it a good 3-4 times.😚😊

    Such an amazing journey Michelle.
I used to straighten my hair DAILY in college. Just because everyone in the hostel had poker straight hair, I just assumed thats the normal thing to do. Your videos have helped me so much to change my entire routine this lockdown. My heart goes out to you. ❣

I didn't even realise that!!! Lol.
By month 5 I was really feeling myself lol.
I think straightening was the norm a back then! There was hardly any curly rep in the media!
Ugly Betty had curly hair and once she straightened it and wore makeup she was depicted as being pretty! Portrayals like these have been toxic for us textured hair girls!

That's so relatable. I used to straighten my hair twice a day and damn after a few years I started losing 1000 strands everyday. I know this because I used to count. I was literally going bald. I wanted to do so much for my hair but I had no idea where to begin with. One day while searching for some diy, I came across this curly girl method. I won't say that it's perfect rn but yeah it's better than what it used to be.
Your videos are a one-stop solution for people like me. Because of you I realised that my hair is wavy. I am definitely gonna recommend your videos to all curly girls around me. And yeah that humiliation, I faced that too. 🥺

Hey Beautiful...love your hair, I always knew I had curly hair, I am 50 now so you can imagine what my hair has gone through lol, last time I chemically treated my hair was just right before the lockdown started, and then I just coloured my hair maybe just once, but because of my depression, menopause and all the blah blahs , I really neglected my hair, they used to peak up into knots and I would not bother combing them out, and when I would , the hair loss and pain caused me so much trauma! I just recently discovered CGM a week ago, before that, I trained myself to not wash my hair every day..and am already seeing benefits, hairball has decreased, I don't lose hair anymore, I am so glad I found your channel, last night I bought a bunch of stuff you suggested taking it one step at a time. 🙂..Thank you so much ♥️

Sometimes life takes over and we neglect ourselves. As women I sometimes think we're programmed that way (hopefully I'm wrong). But a time comes when we have to start giving ourselves that time and space to really nurture & pamper ourselves. Everytime I take care of my hair, it has become an act of self love. I want to share this with you in the hope that you do the same! Sending you lots of love and encouragement. So happy you're playing for team curly now! ❤️❤️❤️

❤🎉Wow, I applaud your tenacity! Your damaged hair without product that you showed us is what mine looks like without curl styling cream, and actually a bit worse. But I haven't used heat tools at all in over 7 years. Haven't had a haircut in almost 2 years. It's very long, and damaged/frizzy but only because I've been brushing it too hard and wrong. I was ripping and snapping it out creating tangles! My teen daughter, who is a natural and in Cosmetology, recently corrected me. I was losing tons of hair, and literally crying recently, because I couldn't detangle my hair without help (from my husband). I just couldn't comb it through. Until she showed me that I don't even have many tangles at all. I was brushing from the top. I get frustrated easily and I love low maintenance, but still want that beautiful mermaid hair. Anyway, sometimes it's the simplest things that can change everything. Now I have no issues with detangling. It looks a little better now, mostly easier to manage. Beachy waves, bring it on! So far, I can relate to your content better than other girls. Thank you again ❤❤

@@MichelleManuel thank u💜 But it's not that I was combing out my curls/wave texture at all. Only before a wash I will detangle. I just wasn't doing it right.🤷🏻‍♀️ Idk, maybe I misunderstood the statement

    • @MichelleManuel
      @MichelleManuel  Год назад

Yes yes. That's what I'm saying. Not combing during the week (when your hair is styled) is a good idea. To detangle you'll need to comb or run your fingers through of course.

Hi Michelle, I cannot thank you enough for sharing all of your knowledge in such detail and open heart. I also didn't knew I had curly hairs until the last lockdown wherein I grew my hair long enough to know that. With the passage of time they have grown to become very unmanageable and crazy. With the intention to bring them to a manageable state, I started looking out for some content on youtube and thank God I came across to one of your videos.
I don't think any other youtuber has covered the CGM with such grace, beauty and chronology as done by you. I wish we could give more than one like on youtube:)

Wow Danish. Thank you for leaving me such an incredibly thoughtful comment. I really appreciate the time and thought you put into it.
I am so guilty of not being inclusive in my language. When I first started my channel, I had no idea who my audience would be. To be super honest, I didn't think I would have an audience in the first place. At best, I assumed there would only be a female demographic viewing the content. I realise how I wrong I was. I've started using the phrase curly hair people but I still slip up at times. 🤭

Hi Michelle thank you for taking out your time, responding to my request and considering it and making us feel so special. I am starting out my journey to start giving some attention to my hair. I had one doubt though I have a little oily scalp with super dry hair 2c/3a type hair.
I wash my scalp thoroughly daily not necessarily with shampoo but in CGM routine there are lot of products that we would be using once a week. I wanted to ask from day 2nd how can we go about washing our hair with just water. I mean all the products applied will get lost in the process or maybe get accumulated on the scalp and If I do not wash my oily scalp there would be irritating sensation throughout the week.
Also, what would be the best medium to ask our doubts with you. I assure I'll not trouble you much:)

    • @MichelleManuel

@@danishsayeed3150 hi. It's best to communicate on youtube comments. I don't really do one on one sessions because I'm short on time. I prefer replying here cause that way everything reading can benefit from the exchange.
So washing your hair everyday is not a great idea. It causes hygral fatigue. This damages the hair. If done over a long period of time can cause irreversible damage to the hair shaft.
Try to extend your washday as much as possible. Try to go 3 days between washing your hair. Slowly increase it to 5. This might seem super overwhelming at first and you might hate it. But try it for a bit. Your scalp will adjust.
In between if you must wash your hair, use a conditioner or a cowash.
      Don't use a shampoo.
Stop washing with plain water please.
For an oily scalp, try to dry scalp massage everyday for 7 minutes. You'll be stimulating new hair growth and you'll also see a reduction in the oil accumulation on the scalp. It will have an immediate effect.
I have a video on the topic if you want to see a demonstration.
Feel free to ask as many questions as you want. Most often you'll find a video addressing the exact concern in detail. (For your first question, you could check out my video called how to start cgm in India). Either way, I'm happy to reply. So please don't hesitate.

Thank you for sparing out time from your busy schedule and helping us out.

    • @MichelleManuel
      @MichelleManuel  2 года назад +1

@@danishsayeed3150 so basically imagine your scalp is super dehydrated because youre washing your hair every single day, it's going to feel stripped. The scalp will start producing more oil to prevent trans-epidermal water loss. The scalp is basically trying it's best to reduce losing moisture by producing a coating of oil in the form of sebum. Think of it like a defence mechanism.
The moment you stop washing your hair every single day, your scalp will slowly adjust and not produce so much oil. Which is why I said give it some time and dry scalp massage.
It's going to take a bit but your scalp will be happier in the long run.
      Okay hope this helps.

I am the only girl in my childhood who had wavy/curly hair. So everyone use to say it's very difficult to style her hair and everytime i went to hair dresser for cut she always used to no use of doing any cut in your hair it will not be visible. My mom used to oil my hair every day and i used to have plates daily. I started hating my hair whenever i have to go somewhere i used to cry as my mom didn't allowed me to do any chemical treatment on my hair or to straight them.
Even i never had long hair. I used to apply eggs, heena, curd every possible diy on my hair for 6 months they improved my hair quality a lot, my hair are long too now but still i faced tangled hair and volume less hair. Then i realized now i need to understand what is the problem and i don't know how but youtube recommend me your video and when i saw your hair i was like wow, if this is a result i need to give it a try. But i don't know what happen i started feeling i will take good care of my hair but i will not do anything that make it more curly and wavy as my friends curly hair doesn't look good and blah blah..If you remember i asked you many times what can i do to take care of my hair so they don't get curly. But 2 months back i decided finally i will give it a try. So i ordered plum products . I still face tangled hair issue and get fly aways a lot but i feel light and a kind of softness in my hair.
To be motivated i started using shampoo and conditioner first with pre poo. Nothing else.
Now i am using shampoo, conditioner and dc.
It's quite difficult as i never used any thing other than shampoo on my hair. I am a firm believer of using complete natural products, so it's difficult but giving it a try.
Now, learning a lot but i watch your videos only i can relate with you. So watching your video in night has become a part of my routine.
You are really helping a lot. Your work and effort is just super amazing.
Hope it might be useful for someone.

Putting up the months like that was very moving. Seems there was a huge jump in btwn month 1-2. And also from month 3 to 4. That was extra inspiring. I always go back to flat iron once and awhile bc I just haven’t seen big enough results trying to go curly. I just can’t master the clumping and frizz. With that said I am taking better care of my hair. Before last month I never even watched 1 video about hair care. I used Pantene pro v for the last 15 years. But thanks to u I know that my hair was dry and needed protein. My hair is highly porous and a load of other terms like humectants and curl patterns, plopping... I could go on. I might not be Indian or live in India but I find ur tips to be helpful. U r very informative. Talented and extremely personable. Ur good to me so u have my attention and loyalty.

It's a difficult thing to stop straightening altogether. I think you're only one amazing wash day away from flipping the switch!
Clumping is no simple feat. Girls on youtube make it look so simple because they have years on them.
That being said, clumping is about 2 things really (especially for high porosity girls),
      1. having just enough water in your hair (to be able to hear that squishy sound) If you use too much water you won't get a cast and if you use too little gel you won't get a cast.
      2. not being afraid to use a ton of gel/mousse so that the clump stays intact while drying and gives you a robust cast. This will stop frizz and your baby hair perking up as well.
One day you'll strike the right balance. Excited for that to happen.
In the meantime, check out Taylor Laios and India Batson. They don't wear their hair curly all the time either. It's totally ok to modify! ❤️❤️❤️

Hey, I just started doing CGM. In fact did my first wash using the products last week. Do you have any tips and tricks that I should know of? Im in trasition too. The mess up is that I had smoothened my hair several times in the past and got disgusted and had to chop the damage off. Now, at this moment, the front part of my hair is smoothened and the back is all natural and I don't really know what to do with them. I came across CGM recently and thought this is definitely worth a shot. It's unbelievable to see soo many people going through the same thing.

But now they are so frizzy.. Damn! Nothing I do, no mask, no conditioning, nothing brings them back to my earlier straight look. So hair can change every decade. It's quite possible for your hair to have become wavy or curly now.
But frizz is something that takes time and patience. There are multiple causes of frizz. A lot of things you'll need to keep a check on to get it under control.
Wearing protective hairtstyles and bonnets while sleeping. Perfecting your styling routine, using enough gel, maintaining protein moisture balance. Using serum during the week.
Honestly there are no shortcuts. If it were that simple, transitions wouldn't be a thing. :)

I knew my hair had a little bit of texture but I so wanted it to be straight because "straight is beautiful" right? Last March I stumbled across the fb group called Indian Curl Pride. I would adore the ladies' hair there and gradually started wishing to have hair like that. I had stopped using sulphates and silicones but that was it. I didnt have the courage to let my hair dry as it is without manipulating it to be straight. Last October I had went to my Uncle's house and didnt have the means to straighten my hair (without heat) so I had to let it air dry and to my surprise my cousin sister started playing with my waves and said she wished she had those. That was my epiphany moment.
I had already known about the CG method, techniques and a little bit about the products so I went full on CG mode and stopped combing my hair dry as well.
I have never looked back since.
I tried straightening my hair heatlessly 2 3 times more but I love my curls more now. ❣💕

I can legit not believe that these hair u have r damaged, just a question your roots don't curl up and obvio ur roots r the good hair, so do u think u might actually get straight hair again like u had them in ur teen years coz they weren't damaged but not curly either?

    • @MichelleManuel
      @MichelleManuel  3 года назад +1

Yup. It's severely damaged but using different techniques, I am able to completely change the appearance of my hair. By the way i've tried cgm on a friend who has straight her. The hair does not curl.
Regarding the point you made about the root: wavy hair doesn't always curl from the root anyway, it's totally normal.
Plus hair texture changes every decade. Hair texture also changes due to hormonal changes.
Whether it's straight or curly, it's natural and so I am embracing my hair the way it is!!! ❤️

I have 2 videos on hairfall. Maybe it could help you out. I also have a section in my description relating to possible allergens that may cause allergic reactions in some people and may result in hairfall. Check the ingredient list of your products to make sure.
Hairfall is a serious matter and should not be taken lightly. Hairfall is also something that I can absolutely share my research & thoughts on, but it's best if you seek medical intervention as it is a medical concern and not a cosmetic one. I think it would be best if you went to an endocrinologist and got some tests done. Please please don't ignore this.
