Humiliation is either a personal feeling or judgment of self or a an action performed or a social judgment upheld by others, directly or as a circulating story or social memory.
None of this is really forever unless one buys into it to an excessive extent or someone works to forever maintain it so.
      - Feelings as a physical state simply change over time. They are a response to some trigger. If the trigger is the continued memory of a certain event plus the assumption that one is somehow trapped by the event or by ones evaluation of it, then that is something an individual can work on transforming, completely independently of others. Something is only humiliating at that level as long as one sustains the feeling or mental evaluation that it is.
      - The evaluation of others may have some long term social or structural consequences if it is maintained and sustained by people or social structures. However as an individual you can dissociate from that by not buying into it yourself. Sticks and stones. It is not new or special to fighting that some individuals may need to find ways of ignoring or facing down a social pressure or evaluation. Buying into the tactics of a bully by trying to negate a false assertion, is already buying into the premise of the bullying. If it’s a false image then your actions over time should persuade the kind of people worth associating with that it’s false or out of character.
Humiliation is fickle. It is the mirror image of Pride. It is only real to those who feel it or buy into it or try to turn it on others as an aggressive social action. People who are particularly susceptible to individual humiliation are easy to bait or manipulate, and easily get stuck in a negative mental rut, obsessively going over and over real or perceived slights.

Usually Cimande silat trainers are required to master this treatment method because students often get injured during training. It wasn't until Iko Uais in "The Raid" that Silat became more globally displayed and recognised, but I also discovered a unique system of Silat as practiced, taught, and demonstrated by Australian Luke Holloway. The system Luke shows seems direct and effective in the empty hand arena, and his knife boxing is superb.❤😊

Its Don Draeger from Black Belt Magazine who bring Silat to the world in early 70's.
Several decades before, in Dutch colonial era, Silat is much more shrouded and practised underground (and disguised as an artistic/dance style). As the dutch saw it as a dangerous weapon for local resistence & their guerilla warfare system (as similar as happen in Phillipine with their kali/escrima under spanish colonial rule.)

The video was very interesting and one can clearly see the typical fluidity of motion in your silat guru that only high level practitioners of their respective system typically reach. But after all there are too many aspects that I think would likely not stand the test of a truly aggressive and violent opponent (the goal to intentionally engage in short range fighting with long range weapons, blade blocking behind back, etc.)

And I like your "gravity of edged weapons " , and Doug's question ,answer , philosophies. There were seeds planted in that time that have grown into great advances for all kinds of martial arts.

Kerambit characteristics are the smaller the deadlier, since almost imposible to disarm or block.
Celurit is a gardening tool to hack grass, used as weapon mostly in east java.
Golok play really sleek, he understand it is mainly for finesse, just slice and slice no need power on it, hatt off.

This group had extraordinary silat skills that could destroy armed Dutch soldiers in dozens of bases on the island of Java. This made the Dutch Afraid and finally the Dutch decided to share the area of power with other groups who also had troops equipped with great "silat" skills. and that successfully ended the episode of the sunan kuning movement. After that the Dutch had extraordinary respect for the Sultanate on the island of Java. and chose to share power with them, because the Dutch did not want the previous thing to happen again

Muay thai is more simple on defending & striking for people to learn, but silat is brutal and more complex to learn because they're fully martial art rather than just self defense like muay thai. You learn catching, striking, grapling, etc. At same time for the efficiency of positioning in self defense.
For me muay thai is good for basic to learn self defense mindset. But getting expert you can choose for expanding your martial art mindset with silat. And for me the +poin of silat is catching & striking.

Doing jurus and then sambung, with our left over energy, those were good memories and painfull. When the time came for Naik Tingkat, can't find the right words in english for this, it was so painfull, when taking class in the day after, all bruises, sore bones, aching muscles, feww....but glad I learnt those basic stuffs silat back in college, learn bunga, flow, langka, foot work but too bad not having chance to learn ground work or bawahan, although learn jatuhan.
