It looks like you had the PS-3's pitch shift knob all the way CCW on mode 11. That's 2 octaves down. That's why it sounds awful. If you had backed if off a bit, you would have gone 1 octave down, which sounds a lot better (although still not great IMO).
Nice catch! It turns out you are correct! I just retested this and it does sound a little better than in the video. It's tonally similar to the PS-6, but with noticeably more latency and some audible harmonic distortion as well. Conclusion remains the same - not suitable for use as a 'transparent' octave pedal.
