Glad to see Evan get some love, he really deserves it. Try The Devil, God and me. Another to name to drop here is Wyatt Flores. He’s going to blow up soon so get on board early. Holes or West of Tulsa is a good place to start.
Really dark song..sometimes I personally feel like this song if heard by someone that is in that same darkness could encourage them to give up rather than seeking other alternatives.😢
That’s a fair opinion. Quite to the contrary though many who have been suicidal and in this boat have commented on this song thanking Evan for his words. They find comfort and hope in the words because they feel as if they’re not alone-they’ve expressed feeling understood and having benefited from the the song vs being compelled to carry through. This isn’t just my interpretation either, many who publicly comment on the OurVinyl and official music video have openly shared as much. The song itself doesn’t glorify suicide in any way. The person in the song doesn’t actually commit suicide, the gun misfires giving him a second chance and a new outlook. “Bad primers, with good timing.” It’s a redemptive outlook offering hope through darkness. As someone who hasn’t had issues with depression or suicidal thoughts, this song opened my eyes to the pain people feel. And as public comments have shown, it helps those that are depressed feel heard and understood-which is the intent of this song.
