A gigantic sound. Rich and full throughout. 19 1/4" wide. All Mahogany. Based on Clapton's 1969 "Ivan the Terrible" Zemaitis that he used with Blind Faith.
Lovely. The unmistakable sound of a Zemaitis 12.
That is one great sounding guitar and of course Molly makes it sound even sweeter. She is something else!
Guitar sounds awful
I had the privilege to play "Ivan the Terrible" in Tony's front room before Eric collected it (even before the great man played it himself!)... it was a monster. I might be biased but the 6 string that Tony made for me was much more "User Friendly", but to be fair Eric wanted the biggest 12 string and the size was roughly based on the Mexican Guitarron Bass.If you want to check out my "Z" it's on 2 videos "I Love a Sunburnt Country Trevor Knight" and "Trevor Knight's 1967 Zemaitis Acoustic Guitar"... it is a beautiful guitar and worth a look.
I've watched this over and over. It inspired me to start learning this tune on mandolin. I have the A part down and I know the B part, but I have to play it really slowly because it't a bit of a twister. The fact that Molly can do this on a 12-string, chord over melody, is truly amazing and it seems so easy for her. And it's a beautiful tune, written by Mikael Marin of the Swedish group Vasen.
Ok folks, check out the Merry McKentys version as well. Starts with one or two fiddles and ends with a viola joining fiddles the second time through the tune. Very nice tune played at about 80 or 90 BPM. In the key of G major. It's a dance in Sweden known as a schottis. (show-tis). The A part is divided into 4 parts that has 3 bars each. The next pretty much repeat the first 3. The time signature is in 4 for both the A and the B parts ( I had originally, mistakenly, thought it was in 3) Some of the bars have more than 8 notes, so it doesn't seem to fit into a regular 4 4 space. The last bars of the B part has about 12 notes. ( In some traditional fiddle tunes this is called "crooked" but in Swedish music, at least this tune, I'm not sure what you'd call it). I've worked it out on mandolin and it's actually quite easy to play, like on fiddle. It just repeats over and over, 'til everybody gets tired or the band gives out, whichever comes first. I do not know what the dance is. If I were to guess, I'd say similar to a shoddish (sp ?) or shottish. The tune is a very lovely piece. I've listened to it slowed down and at normal speed around 100 times and I can't get enough of it, to say the least. It's in my head as I drift off to sleep ❤️😁😁❤️❤️😊😊😊 Cheers, my dancing and fiddler friends in the world. If you find this tune as delightful as I have, or any corrections, I'd welcome comments. Bob in Montana (PS, Molly throws in a couple of embellishments here, namely a delightful pull-off and a staccato run desending on the lower strings to the G note before going right into the start of the B part.)
Tony Zemaitis made beautiful guitars.
That guitar sounds so sweet played by Molly and she is such an amazing player.
Saw Ron Wood playing one and the search lead me here. Love me some Molly Tuttle
ops! forgot this ruclips.net/video/3xlo1NvEdAw/видео.html
Her right hand is amazing, such economy of motion and such precision. Wow!
Her melodic sensibility is absolutely unmatched in Bluegrass Music.
Holy Moly, that guitar is bigger than Molly!
This is amazing
Beautiful playing Molly!
Very interesting left hand technique and I love the sound
Great way to start the weekend, niceguitar, excellent musicianship, wonderful channel!
My right shoulder hurts just looking at that guitar.
Lovely playing as always from Molly. Does anyone know what tune it is? (Edit: found it down in the comments; a Swedish folksong called Skräplandschottis.)
Beautiful as always.
Good playing Ms. Tuttle: any relation to my friend from Nam, Glen Homer Tuttle? Any ways thanks. from Eric.
That is an enormous guitar
Great stuff as always.
beautiful
Beautiful.
Love it once I understud how it was different then a 6 string. More into the story then a short song.
I know she can play at warp speed but that stuff often misses the beautiful melodies out there. I love Molly and would listen to her play a $5 Walmart guitar too because she can bring the beauty out of any time.
Reminds me of Greg Lake's
Greg Lake played this guitar's earler model in '' Cest la vie '' song recordings.
Indeed and he reportedly smashed it to pieces in frustration years later claiming it was difficult to tune and never really sounded that good anyway. While his sound on Works was wonderful I suspect it had a bit to do with studio magic. This doesn’t sound like and exceptional 12 string to me.
Beautiful! I play a Dobro '64 12, and she's actually a bit less chi my in this old country way.. Would love to hear this beauty in open D with a slide... The Z-mantis bridge reach is unlike any of his others I've studied,,, Wonder what the bracing system is that's helping bring out the punchy highs?!
im a 12 string player i had 3 12 string guitars i can play Country 80s Rock and Christian
She must be one of the best flat pickers especially of the younger guitarists
That Guitar is a Big silly monster.has the tone of a Harpsichord.
Nice travel guitar.
LOL.
@@jojogun1957 If you put wheels and an engine on it, maybe!
@@HankleburyTV that's the truth....hehe!
@AWelsh Celt I have a voice that sounds the way it is supposed to sound. Not good.
nice lil´ tune Molly .....!
Greg Lake's guitar
A Zemaitis heart hole 12. In the hands of someone who does it justice. Thanks Molly, and thanks Tony too. X
That thing is massive.
Sweet 🥰
With the the 12 string the tune sounds more Celtic to me...very cool
Sounds as gigantic as it looks, indeed. Only 12 frets to the body, - I guess a guitar of that size would be difficult to handle if it had a 14 fret long scale neck - but what the heck, who needs so many frets on a 12 string acoustic !
Yeah I'd be smiling like that too if I was playing that guitar
"Skräplandschottis" - Vasen
The guitar is as big as Molly!
Molly you Sound much playing a tune, or is that my old age showing.
elp style..Nice
Lovely. I can barely see ya behind that huge guitar body.
Anyone know the name of this hornpipe?
A Swedish folksong called Skräplandschottis.
@@Beemerboy324 Ok, thanks for the proper name of this marvelous time. It's catchy and mesmerizing. I think the key is G and the timing is 3/4. I intend to work it up on my octave mando when I can. May take a bit of work, by ear, especially the 2nd part. Thanks,. Bob
@@robertshorthill4153 It's actually written in 4. It's an old fiddle tune and is usually played faster but this lower version is absolutely beautiful. It would be wonderful on an octave mandolin!
@@Beemerboy324 the Merry McKenty version, also the Vasen version, which seems a little too busy to my ear . Thanks again and cheers. Bob
There is a guitar tab?😄
Roger Tallroth tunes!!!!))))
I never know if she plays in DADGAD or Standard tunning. It sounds DADGAD to me. Great job though
standard tunning here
It's in standard. Look at the C and G she grabs.
1:06 I checked to see if my index finger bends that way. It doesn't!
It might be called Efter Juringius, but I'm not sure. Swedish tune, kinda has a Irish feel to it. Is that a possibility ?? The Norse invaded the Celts about a million years ago, so maybe they taught them this tune,. Ha! ( More likely they killed them)!!!!
That wasn't a million years ago and they established settlements in those areas.
I had the great privilege to play the original "Ivan", actually even before Eric!... Tony made me a guitar in 1967 (still have it) and we remained friends. One Sunday afternoon I popped over to his Flat and Workshop in Balham, he said he had just finished Eric's 12 string it was in his front room would I like to try it... of course I did, it was huge and heavy with silver inlay everywhere and sounded like a church organ!.. but to be honest I prefer my old girl! You can check it out (Trevor Knight Zemaitis) ruclips.net/video/v6RJfo_5geE/видео.html
Always loved these especially Greg Lake playing one. And who wouldn't want one of those beautiful electric guitars?
Vladimir Nikiforov, Listen when she plays the high strings. They are all there.
song?
Stratocaster65 Definitely a song, no doubt about it...
Skräplandschottis by Väsen. It's a Swedish tune.
@@etparadox isn't it a beautiful tune? This Vasen group must be a bunch of wonderful musicians. I stumbled across this one by Molly quite by accident and it literally KNOCKED ME OUT !! I thought how can I learn this on mandolin, then I listened to the Merry McKentys version which gave me a better path to figuring it out. A strange and delightful tune I will definitely share with a lady fiddler friend. I might even attempt to "teach" it at a mandolin workshop, if ever this Covid virus goes away some day.
Beautiful woman!
Tell the whole story- beautiful person, awesome musician.
that guitar is really hard to play
I see one person is tone deaf.
That's an interestingly horrible sounding guitar, played by a shockingly good player.
That’s my thought. Very beautiful - except for the tinny tone.
Nice song too...
@@przybyla420 Hey now, that big 12 string sounds pretty damn good to me, my friend. It has great sustain and deep bass notes as well as clean and clear highs. What more could you ask for in a well made 12 string ? They say 12s are hard to tune. Depends on how fresh the strings are and the quality of the machines. This one might look ugly to some, so just close yer eyes and open yer ears -- a pretty sweet sounding guitar for my ears. ( Of course, Molly T playing it brings out the magic inside ! )
I have heard better sounding 12 strings
What's the point in playing a guitar that sounds like not-so-good mandolin? No "meat" in bass, too anemic in high tones... Many all 12-strings have that characteristics and this one is no exception.
It doesn't even sound that good... the guitar, NOT Molly.
Shes like Billy strings...but not as good because shes a woman...😉
