Oh wow! A friend of mine was just at an art exhibition in NYC where this guy who used to be a doctor became REALLY concerned with the levels of caffeine people were consuming. His exhibit right now shows how spiders make their webs on different substances. The caffeinated spider had the most poorly constructed web. Like the spider had ADD.

So many quitting-coffee videos on RUclips chronicle the hell of quitting coffee, and how lifechangingly great quitting coffee is; and then they end with, "I'll probably still have a coffee every now and then because I like the taste." I want to reach through the screen and yell, "No! Don't do it!"

I have a anecdotal story about the dark circles around my eyes. So I used to drink alot of black coffee and green tea, and I mean a lot!! I did some research it could be related to stress and high levels of cortisol.
So I quit all caffeine, and trust me when I say this my dark circles improved by 90% not only did my dark circles improve but my sleep was much deeper, and my focus improved.

    Great job!
I went a year without caffeine (for me, it's chocolate since I don't drink coffee), and it really improved my skin and reduced stress and some types of headaches. *Didn’t reduce migraine for me. Ironically, helps with those.*
To be fair, I also removed several other things at the same time because it was the start of my autoimmune paleo journey.

My neurologist said that even if its caffeine (tea) included with a teaspoon of sugar in the morning it will help with migraines. The caffeine in tea is different than coffee is what my neurologist told me.

I’ve been drinking coffee for 15 years and started noticing the adverse effects of it... all of what you say is true and randomly I’ve been now having anxiety and panic attacks over stressful situations that I normally can handle. I’m trying to quit it keep relapsing. I notice my allergies are worse, I’m more moody and temperamental, and I have more nightmares.

I too, started having serious anxiety issues in relation to caffeine consumption, and this was after 10 years of drinking LOTS of it. Finally I totally kicked caffeine and wow! I never thought I’d be able to function without it and the truth is I function 20x better without caffeine. Best choice I ever made.

A series of life circumstances led me to gradually quit coffee/caffeine over the course of about 2.5 months this year. I feel like a lot of my reaction to the whole process really mirrored what you expressed here. It was like I all of a sudden realized that I had been behaving unconsciously with regard to caffeine for so long. I always had the thought lurking that coffee wasn't good for me, especially not the 4 or more cups a day I was drinking. But if you had asked me in February if I wanted to give it up, I would have felt horrible at the thought--scared, guilty, and annoyed by the question. By mid-June, however, I had totally stopped and didn't miss it at all, not even the taste. I think the key to being successful is to do it gradually. Now, I will also drink it socially, maybe once a month or something if I feel like it. I am an INFP too, and I think some of the revelation this year for me is that I do have the willpower to completely change concrete, physical things about my life like my diet.

Started regularly drinking coffee in my mid-20's. After about 10 years or so, I started to become more sensitive to caffeine; if I drank coffee too late, I would be up all night. That didn't stop me from drinking lots of coffee throughout the day and even at night. Last year I was diagnosed with anxiety. I reduced my coffee consumption, but that didn't last very long. Finally, I decided enough was enough. I really needed to quit coffee altogether. That was a couple of months ago. It was rough for a few days, but I got past it. I started feeling better. After about three weeks, I decided to try drinking some coffee--thinking that maybe I could drink a limited amount and be fine. I just stared at the cup. I could bring myself to drink it. The next day I managed to drink some, but I didn't like how I felt; it definitely didn't help my anxiety. The day after that I couldn't drink more than a cup. Then the day after that it was 2 sips and I was done. The few times I've tried drinking coffee after that, I couldn't drink much more than 1/2 a cup. My body just doesn't want it. Of course the thing is that I don't need it. I feel much better--much more energized without coffee. The only reason I sometimes try to drink it is because I do miss drinking a hot drink sometimes. I haven't tried decaf yet, but I feel like that wouldn't work either...

I have the same experience with dark circles with quitting caffeine recently, they are reducing. Years ago i went on holidays overseas for 6 weeks and for some reason the dark circles disappeared over that time and I couldn't figure out why. But over that time i wasn't having coffee regularly so it makes sense now.

I was fed coffee since I was a kid and put myself through periods of coffee cold turkey 3 - 6 months each time before relapsing. Now I stick to one cup of thin coffee with milk in the morning and that is my coffee intake a day. It does manage anxiety a lot, I cant quit it but I can manage it.

What are your thoughts on decaf? I’ve heard there is a small amount of caffeine in it. Did you use it to wean yourself off coffee? I’m considering using matcha to replace coffee and reduce how often I drink it as I can.

One time I quit caffeine on accident I bought my McDonald's coffee if I McDonald's coffee I was like damn this is weak is weak so I double strength it normally I drink folders I didn't really understand why why so in a month or so when the background out and I want to get more I've seen the cover was different and I was drinking decaff the whole time If and didn't know I slept 10 or 12 hours A-day normally I sleep 4 and a 1/2 to 7 I was so confused on what the hell was going on I was waking up with my pillow and faced drenched and drool yeah I was actually amazed at the results yet at the results I'm guessing I would have started sleeping less if I had kept going but I felt a sense of supercalmness I started doing half decaf half regular but I forgot maybe I need to start doing that again
