That article about the no talk run that shifts into talking about “missing out on everything besides skill based precision” is mind boggling. Imagine seeing an incredible feat of skill and knowledge in a game widely known for its difficulty, and going “Yeah that guys fine I guess but this is actually all about ME and how I want to play games.”
That's literally what "games journalism" has turned into. It's not about the game, it's about the writer's experiences with the game (and rarely are they any good, either). That's why we keep asking for objective articles and get sneered at with strawmen "objectively written" examples to dismiss the criticism. I don't care how your low tier trash skills failed at the game, I want to know about the game with as little interference as possible, aside from some slight colour commentary, *to make my own decisions from the information provided*. This is why games journalism has become more and more of a joke over the past two decades.
@@KainYusanagi I disagree. Games journalism is mainly about money. If you get paid by a game producer, you tend to talk better about the game (cough cyberpunk cough). The stuff about "writer's experience" is right but your conclusion isn't. It's not about game journalism per se, it's about every "news"/article-based-website: It's about noise. When you had a small team writing a few "objective" articles years ago, you still have those very same articles but in between them you have 100 random clickbait articles to get more people on your website/generate more traffick and make more money with ads or subscriptions. It's the same with other topics too. Even science websites nowadays have a lot of bs articles. Because money.
The greatest feat of skill and masochism and all they can think about is how they don't want to play that way. I mean you couldn't anyway you actually have to be good and care about the game to do a run like ymfah anyhow
What makes that even better is how they completely ignore how much game knowledge you need to be able to figure out a run like that. It's not just a matter of skill.
When you are so fed up with the "Easy mode" articles that you end up doing a guide to make DS more complicated than ever. Loved the Miyazakigelion ending lmao.
9:13 seconds, thats how long it took me to understand that this isnt a guide for new players and i have been so desensitised to broken skips from your videos and speedruns that i just assumed that it was all legit up until that point
Talking to the Gargoyles got me confused for a sec. Cuz I know Queelag was supposed to be an NPC and has hidden voice lines in the files, but I couldn't find anything about the Gargoyles.
Just go at your own pace, if you get frustrated put the controller down and go grab a drunk from the other room, and then come back with a clear head, it's a tough game, but you'll get better and I've heard it's a rewarding finish This is after watching Outside Extra's Ellen play it for the first time and crush the game
I’m pretty sure its not actually a soft lock, considering the whole thing is a glitch showcase. From Sanctuary, I’m pretty sure you should be able to continue on to kill Artorias, get purple coward’s crystal, and then wrongwarp to the kiln.
@@Kira-rn9fl the purple crystal wrong warp only works if the last bonfire you sat at is not in the dlc. You'll only get teleported to the kiln if the last bonfire you sat at before doing the wrong warp was the lord vessel. (see the wrong warp page on the speed souls wiki)
Seeing you perform an extremely complicated skip to reach the valley of drakes, only for you to grab the key and then return to the locked gate to unlock the shortcut to the valley of drakes made me fucking lose it you are a blessing on this world
Thanks I was really struggling with the game and this helped a lot! I just couldn't get past the asylum demon because I didn't even realize that the sanctuary guardian was the first boss 🤦♂
I've never played Dark Souls in my entire life, and I literally cannot tell what's actually helpful for a newbie and what isn't at times. It took me until the end of the miracle build to see that picking the cleric class was a DS in-joke.
I completed DS1 a few times without ever knowing the Capra Demon or gaping dragon existed. I just used the master key to get to blight town so I never went through the sewers
Same, I even thought that getting to ring the second bell was way easier since you just need to basically kill Quelaag and her fight wasn't particularly difficult, just took a long ass time (because of going at it underleveled). It wasn't until my cousin needed help with the Capra demon that I found out those bosses were part of a normal run.
I never knew you could talk to the bosses instead of fighting them following these steps. This just goes to show how amazing the souls series is. There is always something more to discover!
I just started my first playthrough of dark souls (blind playthrough btw), got my ass kicked by the tauras demon and after watching this video i realise that i missed about 80% stuff just in firelink and undead burg alone which are the only two places i've been to as of now
You'll have a lot of those moments as you progress through the game and through the franchise. FromSoft is notorious for hiding a lot of things from the players. And don't get me started on NPC questlines that you can miss entirely so much as you step on the wrong grain of sand. If you're the type of player that likes to listen to dialogue and loves to do sidequests, be wary of this. Most NPC questlines have cutoffs that make them impossible to be completed/started. Some fail when you reach a certain area, others fail when you defeat a certain boss; even some that wont get started if you fail to talk to an NPC that's in some obscure place.
That comment made me feel really nostalgic, i remember getting my arse kicked by the Taurus Demon a lot on my first run, leaving the game for a while then coming back and finally beating the game, i have since beat the game a load of times so you should get the hang of it as well. I also missed a lot of stuff like the merchant and loot, have you had any luck since?
"I do not recommend picking the Master Key if you are new to this game" THANK THE GODS. A lot of people do recommend the Master Key and, while they aren't wrong that if you know what to do with it it is by far the best starting item in the game, that is a big freaking *if* attached to it that assumes you already know what you are doing. New players, unsurprisingly, do not and it can seriously harm their progression by going into areas they shouldn't have access yet and being overwhelmed by said areas. Edit: I might have posted this a bit early, but I kind of figured this wouldn't be a regular guide lmao. I still stand by what I said tho
I finally lost it when it hit me: he does indeed cover everything. Even your first boss. Especially if your first boss happens to be the game's final boss.
It's so nice to see a guide that actually helps explain the intended route to progress through Dark Souls. When I attempted it, I got lost and couldn't tell what the game wanted from me, but now that you've made this guide for starting the game, seeing how From Software really wanted everyone to proceed through the game is a life changer.
Are these skips used in speedruns? I haven't even ever heard of half of them, and they seem so unreliable. Especially the Golem skip. Just seems like a fun way to utterly break the game and it's too far into the game to be worth the hassle of a restart at that point.
@@Eric_The_Cleric sure bro. The dupe glitch is used, and wrong warps are definitely used, but none of the ones showed in this video iirc. The midroll fall cancel quit out thing he does is used to skip down to blighttown as well. If you are interested, I think the current wr any% is shorter than this video and it's pretty fun to watch

Same, I even thought that getting to ring the second bell was way easier since you just need to basically kill Quelaag and her fight wasn't particularly difficult, just took a long ass time (because of going at it underleveled). It wasn't until my cousin needed help with the Capra demon that I found out those bosses were part of a normal run.

did u pass the taurus cus that bitch been kicking my ass for 4 hrs now
You'll have a lot of those moments as you progress through the game and through the franchise.
So..... have you finished the game?
(Idk why I'm asking)

@@graceempathy2325 no, because you have to set you warp point on the last area, wich you can't access without the vessel

"I do not recommend picking the Master Key if you are new to this game" THANK THE GODS. New players, unsurprisingly, do not and it can seriously harm their progression by going into areas they shouldn't have access yet and being overwhelmed by said areas.

Are these skips used in speedruns? I haven't even ever heard of half of them, and they seem so unreliable. Especially the Golem skip. Just seems like a fun way to utterly break the game and it's too far into the game to be worth the hassle of a restart at that point.
