Hello everyone,
In this video we head north to hike the Laugavegur Trail. We camp along the route and enjoy mainly good weather, it's a truly great hike. We put a new tent to the test; a Fjallraven Abisko Dome 2 which worked well for the trip. The organisation of the trip was straightforward enough and the only real downside was the general high cost of accommodation, food and ale whilst in Reykjavik.
Please leave a comment or ask any questions about the trip, I'll do my best to reply as soon as I can.
As always, thanks for watching!
Take it easy,
Ben.
Just finished it. Great video.
Thank you for your job, especially for another tents photos
Thanks so much for taking the time to make this, edit it etc. Really informative and helpful
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Great video. I completed the trail last week with my hiking buddy, staying in the huts, but self guided. I watched your video before we went as part of our prep which proved really useful. Many thanks for taking the time to make this.
Cheers! Glad you found the video helpful 👍
Awesome! Thanks for sharing your experience on Laugavegur Trail! i went there in august 2019 and i had a miserable experience! I got a terrible storm with 130 Km wind in the middle of the trail that blows up my tent, raining for more than 3 days! My rain clothes didn't endured the storm! lol. I intend to go back next year and finish till Fimmvörðuháls trail.
Thanks! Ahh bad luck with the weather, we were mentally prepared for the worst but we got lucky with just one day of rain. I really wish we had carried on to Skoga as the weather remained good but we will return one day. I hope you get better weather next time 👍
Cracking mate, fantastic watch, nicely put together, big thanks for taking us along 👍 😊
Thanks mate 👍
I always look forward to watching your videos , when I saw ICELAND I thought this one would be epic and I wasn't wrong.
Thanks mate, it was a great trip 👍 Atb, Ben.
Mate. Definitely a different scale of adventure and nice longer video. As always you guys are able to show that brilliant adventures like this, hiking, canoe, 4x4 is possible to ordinary folks with affordable kit and a bit of work. Thanks again for keeping us thinking. 👍
Cheers Steve 👍
Wonderful video. Thank you for sharing your experience and your tips. I hope to be doing this same trip this summer.
Thanks! It was a great experience, if you manage to get up there to do the hike you won’t regret it; it’s awesome 👍
Amazing trip l really enjoyed this thanks for posting 👍👍👍
Cheers Don 👍
Next level filming. Great to see the scenery that me and the lads will be in next April. Love the side looks to camera 😂
Cheers mate, you'll have a great time up there 👍
very beautiful. great trip.
Awesome! Tak tak.
Proper enjoyed that 👌 outstanding views 👏
Video sharing perfect my friend , I like see
Amazing! Love the vehicles.
Cheers mate. There was some cracking 4x4's over there Graham, really nice Mercedes mini buses kitted out like Arctic Trucks, plenty of Defenders, Toyotas etc. and some cool looking Suzuki Jimny's! 👍
Nice one
Brilliant video. Looks like an amazing trip. Another vote for the freeze dried Full English!
Thanks mate, hopefully we’ll get to enjoy a freeze dried fry up in our lifetime! 😂👍
Wow Ben, what a beautiful but unforgiving landscape. Imagine the first Viking settlers trying to farm that land.. Brutal! Really enjoyed that mate.
Cheers mate, it was a cracking trip. Yeah must've been hard times up there for the Vikings; I'm surprised they saw any potential at all for the place.
Almost other-worldly! Class video mate 🤘🏼
Thanks mate 👍
That was proper good mate this is actually the first thing I've watched on Iceland sad i no 👍🏴
Thanks mate 👍
😎Been looking forward to this... 🔥
What an absolute corker...!!! Great video of an awesome trip Ben + Tris 🙏🏻
Nice mix of weather there like, looks freezing in the higher parts! Nice of you to have Tris checking for loose rocks first, don't want you getting your feet wet 🙂 nice video, looks a brilliant place, if a bit smelly and cold . Cheers.
Cheers mate, aye Tris is good at scouting out loose rocks, she needs to start hiking in wellies really 😂. It was a cracking route though, it was like walking on another planet. Atb mate 👍
Fantastic video mate - best of everything, for the most part, great scenery, good weather, great scran (but no full english) hahaha!
Looks like you both had a great time.
Safe travels.
All the best from Catalunya.
Cheers Paul, it was a great hike. We got lucky with the weather, we were mentally prepared for the worst Iceland could throw at us but I ended up with mild sunburn!
All the best mate 👍
Wow what a fantastic watch, so envious... we did Iceland last November - tourist trip not hiking - but I have to say Iceland is the most aww inspiring place I've ever been to. To call it the land of fire and ice is an understatement. Your video has just shown us even more, the Icelandic people are so organised and friendly we found.... and yes big toys everywhere 👍 atb Russ / Manchester
Cheers Russ, it's a great place to visit. I only wish we had more time to see other parts of the country but I'm sure we'll head back up at some point. Thanks for watching mate 👍
Fabulous adventure - have really been looking forward to this since seeing some of the teasers on Insta. Some of the scenery was truly 'other-worldly' - must have been an awesome assault on the senses. So good to see you and Tris always pushing your adventuring boundaries
Cheers mate, yes it was great to hike through that type of landscape. It was also good to get out of the UK again after so long! Thanks for watching, atb, Ben 👍
Wow, that's one too remember,i enjoyed that. My missus asked how Trish got on without her usual G&Ts! 😊
Thanks mate, the lack of booze on the trail was a real struggle! 😂👍
Nice one 👍🏴
Cheers Kev 👍
great video, amazing scenery!!! Always enjoy your voice overs. Just a little thing - that plant is not sea campion, it is called Thrift - Armeria maritima 👍👍
Thanks Pete! Well spotted regarding the plant, I only took footage of sea campion and thrift but still managed to mix them up 🥴. Cheers mate 👍
What an excellent trail/trek for you both.. enjoyed that.
wouldn't like to put fuel in those 4x4s but bet it was worth it 👌
Superb. We’ve been trying to do this for a while but one thing or another has gotten in the way.. With you on the freeze dried breakfast. I actually suggested this to SummitToEat but still nothing. Those would be a winner, particularly in the UK. Cheers D&L 😊
Thanks, it was a great hike, we enjoyed every second of it. I recently bought a couple of the Expedition Foods scrambled egg, with cheese and caramelised onion, haven't tried them yet but I'm hoping they taste better than they sound 😂. I figured one of those with some Mattessons sausage might provide a more substantial breakfast than porridge! Cheers 👍
Great video, interesting and informative. Did your bags go through security ok with the dried food in it (inside its original packaging) or did they open your bag and search it? I take it you took hold luggage and the food went in there?
Cheers! Yes I put my pack in the hold, no problems at all with security. You can import up to 10kg of food into Iceland, as long as there’s no fresh meat or raw eggs etc. 👍
Great. The packs are good for convenience it’s true and you don’t end up eating too much either
Iceland, the natural habitat of the arctic truck....awesome machines, I saw a Hilux up in Norway, it was huge...
Anyway that was a real treat to watch👍
What a barren, but fascinating landscape, wow!!
At what time did the sun set, that far north?
Looking forward to the next video👍
Cheers from 🇨🇭🍻
Hi mate, there were some great trucks up there, the Arctic Truck Mercedes mini buses were my favourite 🤩. The sun set around 10pm I think, although I was usually asleep by 9 so I’m not entirely sure! Cheers 🍺
Hey great vid, we will be doing this in July, we are really excited and your video make us that more anxious to get going. On aside note. What pants are you wearing, they look very comfortable and rugged. Thanks again for the vid. Well done !
Cheers! It's a great hike, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. The pants are Fjallraven Keb trousers, not the cheapest but very robust and will last for years. Thanks for watching, ATB, Ben 👍
Hey thanks for the info
And again great video.
Thanks for the video, how was the navigation? It looks like there is no obvious path in some of the sections, did you have a navigation aid or was the path clearer in person?
Hi, I had the route loaded into my Garmin GPS but didn’t have to use it as the path was always visible 👍
Hey. Brilliant video loved watching it, thank you 🙏🏻 I’m doing the trail mid August and can’t wait. I’ve not hiked abroad before and getting together last bits of kit. What hiking poles did your partner have please? Did you take primaloft or down coat? Also do you guys have an Instagram page? Thanks in advance
Hi, the poles were Black Diamond hiking poles. Our Insta page is @adventure_outdoors76 Cheers!! 👍
Perfect, thank you for swift response much appreciated and look forward to seeing your travels on Instagram.
What a fantasitic watch. What time of the year did you go?
It was the middle of August. Thanks for watching 👍
Supberb video. I've been looking forward for ye to publish your trip; as having done this trail in early August I was keen to see what a skilled content creator could do with such fabulous source material. And ye didn't dissappoint. Brilliant. Brought back a lot of good memories.
Couple of questions for ye:
1) Did you consider doing the Firmoduvahals Trek into Skogar and getting the bus back to Reykjavik from there? (That is an awesome 2 day trek from Thorsmork)
2) Did you not consider staying in a hut on trek? Especially the first one at Hrfanistuker. That is over 1,000metres high!! {I had hut bookings for all nights except at Ermstrur and Skogar, where I had to camp}
3) What was your favourite day? {At a push, I'd say mine was Day 2 from Hrfanistuker to Alfatavan - I had very good weather. Looking down to the lake and the huts from the high point of the pass was incredible. However, Day 3 from Alfatavan to Ermstur was otherworldy too. The stretch after Havangil hut leading to just after the big footbridge had eye-wateringly beautiful scenery IMO. Come to think of it, Days 1,4, 5 and 6 were off the charts as well!!}
4) I also brought some of the TentMeals breakfasts with me. As porridges come and go, they're ok, but IMHO, I think the Summit To Eat Morning Oats With Raspberries is the tastiest porridge/oats style breakfast around. Don't Wayfarer do some breakfasts more in the line of sausage, eggs and beans?? But yeah, a Full English Breakfast Re-hydrated camping meal would be a best-seller!!
Ok guys. Terrific video again and well done. Fantastic stuff.
Regards, Wadirunner.
Hi, thanks! I couldn't really go wrong with the footage as everywhere you looked the scenery was unbelievable. We did consider doing the trek to Skogar but decided against it incase the weather was bad. As it turned out we had perfect weather so we could've done it, but we've decided to return again and do it at another time.
I did attempt to book the hut at Hrafntinnusker 6 months before we left but it was fully booked! Thankfully the weather was relatively decent the night we camped. As you say, all days were great, but the walk to Alftavatn was probably the most interesting even though we had some poor weather on that day.
Regarding the porridge; yeah they were ok. I haven't tried the Summit to Eat oats yet, but I did buy a few of the Expedition Foods scrambled egg, cheese and caramelised onion yesterday so hopefully they will ok.
Thanks for watching mate,
ATB, Ben.
Hey!
I was just wondering who you booked your transport with to get to Landmannalaugar my boyfriend and I are heading out in July!!
TYIA! 🏴
Hi, we used Reykjavik Excursions. They were a little bit hectic to be honest, the journey didn't run smoothly on the way there or on the way back! I'd probably use them again though as there aren't too many options. 👍
I just came across your video. The filming looks so good. Nice wide shots. Are you willing to share what camera you use on a trip like this?
Thanks! I shot the entire video on a GoPro Hero 10 Black. Hope that helps! 👍
HI which model of tent did you use during the trip ?
@@lukasrglukasrg29 hi it was a Fjallraven Abisko Dome 2 👍
Hello, I would like to know what time of year you went? I was there in late November at Snæfellsjökull and going again to Laugevegur Trail this July?
Hi, I was there the last two weeks of August 👍
@@Adventure-Outdoors thanks for the quick reply :) this is very useful and helpful:)
We are currently preparing for this trail. What month were you in? We would go at the end of June. Any special advice about clothing or gear?
Hello! We were there at the end of August. No special gear just good waterproofs and a four season tent. I suppose the four season tent is optional depending on the weather, most people had two or three season tents and on our trip the weather was fine. If the weather did turn bad we would've been fully prepared for the conditions. Hope that helps, it's an amazing hike, you'll love it!👍
@@Adventure-Outdoors Hi! Thanks for the quick response! I'm really looking forward to this trip. We'll also prepareing if the weather turns worse. Thanks again for your reply!!!
How much did your backpack weight for the trail? For the first camping slot, you need a freestanding tent right? Ive heard the floor is not the best
Hi, my pack weighed 20kg. Yes a free standing tent is the best 👍
Do you think it would be worth having gaiters on to help with the sand/small stones/dust otherwise I can imagine your socks get thick with dust (and can then rub?)
Hi, sorry for the late reply. A pair of ankle gaiters wouldn't be a bad idea, especially if the wind picks up .
Hello:)) My friends and I are intending to do the hike this summer, may I know if we have to do any pre-booking for the camping spots? Thank you😊
Hi, you don’t have to pre book for camping, just turn up and pay. Good luck on the trail, it’s awesome 😎 👍
@@Adventure-Outdoorssorry, just another question, is there a limit to the campsite in terms of the number of campers?
Do you know if this Trail would be do-able June 13th?
It’s recommended to hike the trail between mid June and mid September so you could possibly hike June the 13th. I think it depends on how harsh the winter has been, it may be tough going if there’s still lots of snow lying around and the huts may be shut.
Beautiful video! Doing this trip next year. What time frame did you do this hike?
Thanks Sara! We had 5 days to do the hike, but we done it in 4 as we decided not to stay the night at Landmannalaugar. Instead we spent an extra night in Thorsmork at the end. In hindsight we should've hiked over the Fimmvorouhals pass to Skoga as the weather was really good. You'll have a great time on the trail, it's awesome 👍
@@Adventure-Outdoors thank you!
Hi which bags and tent did you use for that treck? Surprised to hear you had some dust inside the tent, is it not a 4 seasons tnetbthen « dust » proofnas well?
Hi, I used a Rab Alpine 400 which was more than sufficient with a temp. rating down to -5 Celsius. The tent was a Fjallraven Abisko Dome 2, it's four season but nothing is dust proof, the dust is so fine it gets everywhere, as soon as you open the door it will get inside the tent if the wind is blowing. 👍
@@Adventure-Outdoors I meant bags/backpack, sorry for misunderstanding 😉
@@Adventure-Outdoors for the tent, it s an inner mesh tent inside? No air flow at all even if it s windy as in Iceland?
@@ledolphinois Ah ok, my backpack was an Osprey Kestrel 68 👍
Hi,
What month is this..?
me and my friends looking forward to do the same trail this coming June, we are coming from Canada...
I am starting to do some research...
Is there any where we can buy the gas, and supplies for a 3-4 day backpacking Iceland..?
Any suggestion..TIA 😊
Hi, this was in early August. There are a few places in Reykjavik where you can buy camping gas and supplies. We stopped at the campsite in Reykjavik and there was loads of gas canisters left by other campers so I ended up using one of those for the hike. I did plan on going to a shop called Fjallakoffinn to pick some up, I also heard that camping gas is widely available at petrol stations.
I also took a few freeze dried meals into the country, you can bring up to 10kg of food with you but not meat or dairy from outside of the EU or EEA. Coming from the UK we are outside of those but I had no problems with freeze dried meals containing meat. You can buy freeze dried meals in Reykjavik but they're bloody expensive! Other supplies can be picked up at the various supermarkets in town. Hope that helps, it's such a great hike, you'll love it 👍
Ben , that looks like you were hiking on Mars ! There is an a American girl I watch on RUclips that goes by the trail name Dixie , she was also hiking that trail , but not sure if it was if it was when you were there , did you meet her ? I thought that would be I a great hike in late September when it would be less people , do you know if it would be open ?
Hi, Dixie from Homemade Wanderlust? I think she was there just a few days before us, I would've loved to have met her, I've followed her channel for years. I think the huts close in mid September as the weather starts to close in and access to the area becomes difficult.
The only negative is that it was a busy trail, although the last 2 days we saw less people, such a great experience though. Cheers mate, atb, Ben.
Yes , Dixie from Homemade Wanderlust , I laughed when you said you’ve been following her !
What did you take with you as your GPS?
I had a Garmin Etrex 32X 👍
What month is this?
Middle of August 👍
