Thank you very much Iwan. You might also want to see my full review of the xiaomi including both its advantages and disadvantages ruclips.net/video/9I1foCuP0YI/видео.html
Once again, a great review Michael! Thank You. Still trying to find a reliable supplier for the Xiaomi Mijia Mi Sphere in Europe. Almost impossible. All others are Chinese. That's kind a problem with it's bad reputation over here and there lack of communication skills. Keep up these nice trustworthy reviews!
Hello, tks for these great and factual comparisons. I would like to get one off these cameras, what can you recommend regarding fixed mount accessories, example to attach camera on the center console if a boat also height adjustment for extension mounting etc
Thanks Mark! Sorry but I have no experience with boating and am not familiar with the types of compatible mounts. I can tell you that the Xiaomi has a standard 1/4-20 tripod attachment at the bottom.... Hopefully there is a mount like a Manfrotto super clamp that is compatible with boating. Best regards, Mic
I dont know, 360 cameras are still new to this world. In Indonesia, action cameras like 1st gen of xiaomi yi still has its big chunk of camera sales instead of xiaomi yi 2. I think the cheaper camera will become market leader like insta360. Nice comparison video btw.
Thanks Esfandiari. The good news is that there are 360 cameras for almost every budget. For low-cost entry level, the Insta360 Air is my favorite. For higher resolution photo or video, the Xiaomi Mi Sphere is a good choice. For even higher resolution video, I'm looking forward to Yi 360 VR or GoPro Fusion. best regards, Mic
wow this was a really great video, so well made and helpful. i will definitely be getting a 4k camera very soon, so it may be one of these. do you think the problems with the app can be over come? it certainly looks like something i might get. i'm surprised it doesn't get in its own way, since it's so wide.
Thank you my friend. Yes, I think the Xiaomi should be on your short list. :) About the app, I have no prior experience with Xiaomi so I don't know the likelihood of them fixing the app. As for the width, well, it's like your eyes -- you can't see your cheeks or your forehead (except in a mirror) :)
yea but those lenses have a wider field of view than our pupils, i would reckon.. what exactly is broken about the app? sorry if you mentioned it in the video, i may have missed that bit.
Photo exporting is ok. Video exporting is troublesome. On iOS, it crashes a lot during export. Maybe 4 out of 5 times. On Android (Samsung S8) when I try to export nothing happens. So I have to use a workaround by using the buiilt-n video editing app.
i see. so if you just wanted to upload the raw files to youtube, would you be able to do that from the camera without using that broken transfer feature? man that sounds important tho, i hope they fix it soon, sounds like it should just be a firmware fix.. hopefully..
Hi shenmue. You can't upload raw video files to youtube because they are unstitched double fisheye. They are unstitched in the micro SD and when you first download them to your app. You can view them stitched in the app but they are actually unstitched until you export them or edit them as a movie. You can check out my article on the options for exporting them: goo.gl/sa1orh Best regards, Mic
Hi, thank you so much for this very well made and informative video. Could you please tell me what PC software you can use to stitch / work / enhance the video data that come out of the camera? I guess one has to convert them first before being able to work with them properly or does the camera already do the stitching process? Usually when transferring the data to the PC you've got to circle shaped videos that have to be converted. I'd be grateful if you could help me out. Thank you ever so much.
Thanks Oliver. The videos are in double circular fisheye and need to be stitched in the app. Here is a video for doing that: ruclips.net/video/VfOLBqydbmI/видео.html After the video is stitched, then you can edit it in a 360 video editor such as Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus 2017 or Adobe Premiere Pro. I hope this helps! Best regards, Mic
Hi Mic, thank you for the quick reply. I watched the video and was wondering why there is - apparently up until now - no way of converting the unstitched video on a PC (I intend to record pretty long vids so I guess the stitching process within the app of a mobile device could take forever). I have used a Ricoh Theta S and a Samsung Gear (2017) and both products offer a PC converting programme that is downloadable from their official websites. Do you reckon Xiaomi will also release a stitching programme for PCs? It would be so much easier working at a real desktop than using the limited display of a mobile device whose battery will unduly be drained by the stitching process. Best regards and greetings from Germany
Hi Oliver. I'm looking into 3rd party software. So far, Muvee for MacOS works. Here is a sample stitched on Muvee by Ulf Brusquini: ruclips.net/video/Q8JbW5hjqvI/видео.html I'm looking into other software. Best regards, Mic
Hi By looking at photos and videos I can only say that Xiaomi Mijia Mi Sphere does the better job in both video and photo segment. That + providing manual controls over exposure. I would choose Xiaomi over Samsung without hesitation. Thanks for nice and detailed review.
Hi BadMedWTF. I don't know when if ever it will have a local distributor in India. It is probably better to order it from a reputable reseller that ships to India, such as GearBest: goo.gl/kO0CuA Best regards, Mic
Great video. Can you tell me what the name of the official app is? Is it in English? Also, what is the name in Chinese I can't find it on Taobao? I'm in this pretty much just for the 360 photos. I read in another comment that exporting issues with photos were much less than video. Did I read that right. Also, what are the camera requirements? Currently, I'm back to my Note 4 since they took away my note 7. Really looking forward to the Note 8 but in the meantime would a Note 4 running Marshmellow work?
Thanks Kilroy! see the links in the description here ruclips.net/video/VfOLBqydbmI/видео.html For photos so far it has been pretty easy on all the phones I've tested (iphone 6, iphone se, samsung s6, samsung s8). I don't have a note 4 to test. but i have unstitched files in the description of the tutorial video i linked above. Best regards, Mic
Great review. I can tell you know what you are looking for in the quality of the images; your comparison of the two cameras is highly objective so I'm inclined to buy the Xiaomi Mijia. But what is the process of uploading the recorded video to your PC?
Hi Ed! Thank you very much! The export process was fixed in an app update yesterday. I'm working on a new article about it as well as a video demo. In brief, you download the video to the app, and from the app, you 'export' the video to your phone's gallery. From there, you can download to your PC or edit on your phone using Collect 360 or V360 360 video editor. Best regards, Mic
Does the Mi Sphere have a powered shooting option, e.g. if the batter runs out can you charge via USB and continue to operate the camera or does only charge when "off"? We shoot concerts and cannot access the cameras in the middle of shows and the battery/overheating has been a major reason why Samsung, Nikon, etc have all been fails so far. Thanks and keep up the great work and website!
Hi IM! Yes you can plug the xiaomi to a usb adapter and it can charge while recording. But I haven't tested the maximum recording time (doing that now). It seems to get VERY hot. Like as hot as your coffee cup.
Unfortunately, the Mi Sphere app is inferior compared to the Gear 360 app. The Gear 360 app has a built-in 360 photo and video editor. I'm just a casual user and not a photographer, and I don't want to go and sit down with a computer before I be able to post something in my social networks.
Hi Zed. So glad you brought that up. Because the Mi Sphere does have a built-in photo and video editor too. You can post to your social network with a purely mobile workflow. Check out my tutorial: ruclips.net/video/GxuwONmLTGE/видео.html And believe me, if you try a stabilized camera -- whether Mi Sphere, Insta360 ONE, Yi 360 VR, Rylo, Fusion, or whatever -- I think you will never want to shoot with a non-stabilized camera again :D. Best regards, Mic
I shoot indoors at close range and the Key Mission 360 has nasty stitch lines close up. I understand stitch lines of subjects close to camera are an issue with most of these cameras but would you say the 360 Sphere is better at stitching then the gear and key mission?
Hi Zantor135. For me the Mi Sphere and Gear 360 have better looking stitching than the keymission, but they have their own issues. On the Mi Sphere, the issue is slight doubling. On the Gear 360, the issue is smearing, and for video, there's also warping when there's anything that crosses the stitch line near the lens. As for the Keymission, the stitch line is blurred (partly due to the softness of the lens at the edges), but the nice thing about the Keymission is that you don't have to stitch it - it's ready to use straight out of the camera. Best regards, Mic
Hi Ali! You can 360 photos and videos on most modern browsers or through several apps. On mobile, I like to use VR Media Player. On desktop I use Windows 10 Movies & TV, Insta360 Studio, or GoPro VR Player. thanks for your question!
Hi, I've got the gear 360 already, Is that all videos or photo can not be shown hd on mobile ? What I can do ? Any app for edit if any recommend ? Thanks a lot.
Hi Kevin. Which phone do you have? When you say the photo or video is not in HD what do you mean? Is it less detailed than what you expect from a 1080p video? 360 will always have less detail because you're only looking at a small part of the video at any given time. For editing, I recommend: v360, veer editor or collect app. Best regards, Mic
360Rumors.com Thanks for ur reply, I'm using samsung note 8 now. It seems only 480p or below when I check those on device. Is it 4K or 360 video that can't be upload by phone? and computer for uploading is better, right ?
My questions about the "Xiaomi Mijia Mi Sphere": 1. Is it possible to connect the camera to the smartphone (android SansungGalaxyS6 or so)? 2. And can I see the full 360° in one view (disortet that I see everything off the 360° at the same time) on my smartphone on the screen? 3. And what is the resolution and the delay for live preview (with cable or wifi conection)? Thank you very much for your answer!!!
Hi Marcel! 1. Yes Xiaomi can connect to Samsung S6 wirelessly. 2. yes you can change the smartphone preview to show tiny planet so you see a 360 view. 3. i dont know the live preview resolution but it is detailed. The delay is short, less than 2 seconds lag. you can see my tutorial here ruclips.net/video/GxuwONmLTGE/видео.html Best regards, Mic
Hi! From where can I download an original unprocessed 360 video copied directly from misroSD and recorded by the Mijia to check the file? I am curious about the original video format if I can find a PC video editor for it or not.
Hi FotoAMg. I've updated the description to add a direct link to the samples. Please also see the link to the workflow. PC editors that can work include Autopano, Video Stitch, Mettle Skybox. I'm looking for others. But rumor has it that Xiaomi is working on a desktop app. Best regards, Mic
Thank you! Which is the sample video from the memory card? is the unstitchedVID_20170507_144640AA.MP4 is an original directly from the memory card without using the app? As I see the video resolution is 3456x1728 and all the 2 camera fisheye raw footage is there side by side with lots of black unused pixels, so the usable resolution (without zooming in) is less than the half of it lets say about 1500x1500 at center parts where lens is sharp and pixels does not need too much postprocess to correct the perspective. It is pretty good for a fullHD conversion.
hi, there is any way to do some stream in live with Xiaomi, or do you know if is close to be...? if I want to do some stream in live, do you recommend Samsung Gear 360, 2017? thaaanks :)
Hi Sullivan077. Right now I have not seen anything suggesting that Xiaomi will have live stream. If you want to live stream, I recommend Insta360 Air for Android or Insta360 Nano for iPhone because they have realtime stabilization when they live stream. Their live stream resolution is also higher than Gear 360. Here is my Air review: ruclips.net/video/2nWooPVtw90/видео.html Air is available here: amzn.to/2rlTqcM (you can choose Micro USB or USB Type C). Best regards, Mic
Hi Mic, a month ago you told me about the Live Stream in Xiaomi. Does anything have changed during this month? Any suggestion about live stream.... Another question, what about the APP? At the beginning some people complains about the app because wasn't so good. Is something that they have already fixed? I have several doubts between Xiaomi or Yi 360... I like the Xiaomi one but I also need LiveStreaming... so what do you think? Thankssss :)
Hi XPresee. They don't. If you want a camera that captures Adobe DNG raw, check out Insta360 ONE! It's amazing ruclips.net/video/1_WuS9FU4hc/видео.html I will post a review soon. Best regards, Mic
Hi Ali. There is no evidence of anyone using a non-Samsung Android phone with the Gear 360 2017. No one I know has been able to do it. Nobody. If you know of anyone please let me know.
I received the Mijia 360 Mi sphere camera but I cannot figure out how to record videos with it. I did not found english manual and the APP i downloaded for android com.madv360.madv.apk is not installing on my androide phone some (doogee voyager). When I plug it through USB the battery indicator is constant RED. I don't know is it the fully charged state or why red? It does not change even after and hour of connected. When I insert my microSD card 16GB Class10 Sandisk UHSI and turn the camera on the picture and video iconst blink then video icon BLUE light up. When I click the recording button picture icon blink blue and video icon blinks red does it three times than video icon stays blue does not record anything to microSD just the empty folders and some settings. When I set to photo mode so photo icon lights as blue and hit the record button it also flashes the same pattern red video icon and blue photo icon 3 thimes and does not save any image. If I connect it through usb while microSD is inserted and I turn on the camera PC recognise it as USB mass torage and I can see the files on teh microSD but justthe generated folders and bluetooth settings sometimes a system.log file but no image or video captured. If I leave the device on for some minutes and does not use it the battery indicator start flashing blue... I cannot connect it to wifi to my phone as my phone does not rum the APK. I assume I could start recordings to microSd without having the app and wifi, please help me to acheive this.
hi FotoAmg. congrats on getting the xiaomi 1. it takes many hours to charge the xiaomi the first time. it is fully charged when the light is BLUE. 2. if you record and it flashes red and blue there is something wrong with the micro sd card. use a micro sd u3 class. 3. you need the phone for the app because it is the only way to stitch the photos and videos. there is no desktop software. the phone must have snapdragon 625 or better to be able to stitch in full resolution. best regards, mic
Hi FotoAmg. Yes, the higher the number the better. Snapdragon 625 is the minimum for full resolution exports. Snapdragon 835 is the best one so far. Other people have tried android emulators and they didn't work for the Xiaomi app. Best regards, Mic
Hi Mic! Now I have an U3 card and I can record pictures and videos and bought a Xiaomi Redemi Note 4 Snapdragon 625 phone. What I experienced with the panorama images it saves there is always a visible issue when joining the 2 images, do you experience them on each picture too? I try to use the configuration app, but did not find some things: - where to set the picture self timer delay to more? on the app clicking an icon there is a 3 sec is default and can be set to 10 sec but it is not saved if I switch to cam mode and back it is still 3 sec. I want to set it to 10 sec when taking picture without the app. - where is the upgrade firmware option in the app? - I did not try to stitch videos yet but I assume it will need some tricks too... Thank you very much for the support!
Hi Ayoola. Yes, I also noticed that and mentioned it in the video, but fortunately it's usually easy to remove chromatic aberration using Lightroom or other apps. Best regards, Mic
Hi Mic! I have issues with the panorama images also visible 2 columns where not fit perfectly also brightness is not the same, see my sample images: drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B_hyhUvel-mhYmw2UnNIVlFNWk0?usp=sharing Your panoramas does not have those glitches how do you configure it or fix? Thanks! I did not start to check videos yet only the pictures...
Hi FotoAmg. When using 360 cameras, you have to be very careful to avoid putting important subjects -- especially faces -- in between lenses. As a rule of thumb, if you can see both lenses at the same time (for example you are standing on the side of the camera), then you are probably in the stitch line. Instead, you need to be sure to have each person stay on only one lens' view. Pls. try that and let me know how it works for you! Best regards, Mic
Hi Mic, I now have both, see the notes in the (somewhat short) video I've posted for my thoughts on their relative resolution. Simple maths demonstrates why the Xiaomi has better video resolution. ruclips.net/video/lQih2-Zr6lA/видео.html
Hi James! Thank you for sharing your video. It looks very interesting! If you could share your template that would be awesome! My email is creadvty At gmail. I also would like to show you something. Best regards, Mic
Hi Ali. The sample photos and videos speak for themselves. I think everyone can look at them and come to their own conclusion. But I'm glad you like your 2017 gear 360.
Good reviews, very surprisingly the quality of photos and videos xiaomi better than samsung gear 360 2017

Hi Maxim. I've left a message for my contact. Hope to hear from them soon...
I have made big mistake buying Moka360 cam. Thank You for this great video.
Hi Dusan. Sorry to hear that. Yes i think either the Xiaomi Mijia Mi Sphere or Gear 360 will be better than Moka360 cam. Best regards, Mic
360Rumors.com that's for sure
Hello,

Hi! Xiaomi is better for photo and vídeo then Theta S?
adsonsanttana yes imho. you can see my full review here ruclips.net/video/9I1foCuP0YI/видео.html

360Rumors.com ty bro let me have a look
Do these cameras capture RAW photo image?
Hi XPresee. They don't. If you want a camera that captures Adobe DNG raw, check out Insta360 ONE! It's amazing ruclips.net/video/1_WuS9FU4hc/видео.html I will post a review soon.
Best regards,
Mic
Thanks. I'll look into that.
gear 360 2017 it can compartir Lg g5 ??? or no can't only with mobile samsung??
Hi Alejandro. I've not heard of anyone successfully using the 2017 Gear 360 with an Android phone that is not Samsung. Best regards, Mic
360Rumors.com its work with every andriod phone
I assume I could start recordings to microSd without having the app and wifi, please help me to acheive this.
hi FotoAmg. congrats on getting the xiaomi
1. it takes many hours to charge the xiaomi the first time. it is fully charged when the light is BLUE.
2. if you record and it flashes red and blue there is something wrong with the micro sd card. use a micro sd u3 class.
3. you need the phone for the app because it is the only way to stitch the photos and videos. there is no desktop software. the phone must have snapdragon 625 or better to be able to stitch in full resolution.
best regards, mic
thanks! So I need a new phone first snapdragon 625 is the better or some higher number like 820?
No way to use android emulators on PC?
Hi FotoAmg. Yes, the higher the number the better. Snapdragon 625 is the minimum for full resolution exports. Snapdragon 835 is the best one so far. Other people have tried android emulators and they didn't work for the Xiaomi app.
Best regards,
Mic
Hi Mic!
Now I have an U3 card and I can record pictures and videos and bought a Xiaomi Redemi Note 4 Snapdragon 625 phone.
What I experienced with the panorama images it saves there is always a visible issue when joining the 2 images, do you experience them on each picture too?
I try to use the configuration app, but did not find some things:
- where to set the picture self timer delay to more? on the app clicking an icon there is a 3 sec is default and can be set to 10 sec but it is not saved if I switch to cam mode and back it is still 3 sec. I want to set it to 10 sec when taking picture without the app.
- where is the upgrade firmware option in the app?
- I did not try to stitch videos yet but I assume it will need some tricks too...
Thank you very much for the support!
de plus on se rencontre que le bruit est plus important sur la samsung et moins nette . merci pour ce test ce qui réconforte mon achat de la xaomi.
Thanks Yoann! Merci beaucoup!
This is nice but I can see huge chromatic aberration there at 2:39
Hi Ayoola. Yes, I also noticed that and mentioned it in the video, but fortunately it's usually easy to remove chromatic aberration using Lightroom or other apps.
Best regards,
Mic

Your panoramas does not have those glitches how do you configure it or fix?
Best regards,
Mic
Hi Mic, I now have both, see the notes in the (somewhat short) video I've posted for my thoughts on their relative resolution. Simple maths demonstrates why the Xiaomi has better video resolution. ruclips.net/video/lQih2-Zr6lA/видео.html
Hi James! Thank you for sharing your video. It looks very interesting! If you could share your template that would be awesome! My email is creadvty At gmail. I also would like to show you something.
Best regards,
Mic

Hi Ali. The sample photos and videos speak for themselves. I think everyone can look at them and come to their own conclusion. But I'm glad you like your 2017 gear 360.
360Rumors.com yes the xiaomi is best at quality but at the voice is terrible i want the best of both world
