Great review! I've also noticed the 'drift' issue due to the stabilization.. in the driving scenes (without me touching my smartphone) the viewpoint did a full 360 on it's own! I'm sure they'll fix this in a firmware update. Keep up the good work! - your Chinese teacher 🤓
Thank you shifu! :D The easiest fix would be to allow users to toggle the stabilization, and I think they ought to be able to do that easily... just a question of whether the suggestion reaches the right person. Best regards, Mic
360Rumors.com agreed- this seems like more of a directional thing than stabilization though.. for example the Garmin Virb is supposed to stay locked on whichever way is forward, while still stabilizing, whereas this stabilizes but the direction moves 🤔
Hi Ben. The Virb has 3 stabilization modes. On one of them, the video will stay locked to whichever heading they were facing when recording starts (e.g. north). The Xiaomi behaves the same way, as do my gimbals on full lock mode. The Virb has another stabilization mode that follows the general direction of movement. For example, let's say the camera starts recording while facing north, it will lock to north. But let's say you ride your bike toward the east. The stabilization will now face east. This will be true regardless of where you turn your head. Then let's say you make a u-turn. Now the stabilization will face west. Virb is the only one with this feature to my knowledge. Xiaomi and Insta360 don't have it, although it's possible for them to add it in the future. Best regards, Mic

Hello. I am using a Xiaomi Mi Sphere camera for 360 video recording. But my videos are not looking as good as yours. I have recored in 4K resolution and stiched using the MI Sphere Desktop Apps with Gyro Calibration checked. The stiched videos looks very low resolution and zoomed out than usual. Please help me to solve the problem. Am I making any mistake during recording or setting? Please help me.
Hi 360 World 4K. Maybe you are editing the low resolution preview files. When you record a video with Mi Sphere, it creates two files: a normal resolution and a very low resolution preview. The low resolution preview is to help you view the video in the app. Make sure you are editing the full resolution files, which have AA at the end of the file name. The preview is the one with AB at the end of the file name.
@@360vroomers Thank you prompt reply. I use only AA files (3840*1920) and delete AB files as I have seen in one of your video. Is there a possibility to select another recording mode where it is stiched directly wihtout the fisheye recording. FYI I am using Hitfilm pro for editing
Hi Jann. The double circular fisheye files are the unstitched files. You need to stitch those to convert them to the standard equirectangular format. Please see my Xiaomi tutorial ruclips.net/video/GxuwONmLTGE/видео.html Best regards, Mic
Hey Edison! 😀 Generally yes. Xiaomi is a pretty good all-around choice - excellent for photos and very good for videos. Theta V actually has noticeably video quality but the stabilization is not that good so it's not the most practical choice imho, unless you want to shoot only 360 photos, or 360 videos on a tripod. The three I would also suggest right now are GoPro Fusion ($699, assuming you have a compatible computer), Insta360 ONE ($299, I will post a new video today or tomorrow showing its new kickass stabilization 😁), or Xiaomi Mi Sphere (around $250). Hi Ebert. Congratulations on getting Insta360 One and One X. If your interest is video, I honestly would recommend you stick with Insta360 One X. It is much better than Mi Sphere for video. Hi Mijo. I have an S8+ and it is definitely more than capable of using the full resolution so the Note 8 should be capable as well. I wonder if you have the latest firmware and app? On android, your app should be 1.8.4 or later. Also pls post your question on facebook.com/groups/mijia360cam -- that group is very helpful. Best regards, Mic
360Rumors.com wow, thank you soooooo much for the direction. I've been searching for hours on Google how to do this and haven't found anything. I just got the camera today and it looks like my firmware does need an update, but each time I try it says 'could not connect to network'. Hopefully, the Facebook group can help guide me through this! Thanks again!
Hi Mic, I would like to add LG G4 to the phone compatibility list. I used your unstitched video to import to my LG G4 with Android 6.0 and Mi Sphere 360 App version 1.6.5.12953. I then used the app's export to phone feature to stitch the video. The resolution is 3645 x 1728. I have failed to stitch your unstitched picture by using the same app but will try again. Every time when I do it, the picture shows two fish eyes.
Thank you very much takanda! Re photos, there's something wrong with importing photos on the app - like you said it ends up as incorrectly stitched. But so far every phone I've tried has been able to stitch photos at full resolution. Best regards, Mic
Thanks for the video man! One thing you didn't mention.. How's xiaomi doing with camera firmware updates? Are they pushing them regularly? Do you think they will address all of the issues in the future or they'll just release another camera?
Hi lexxxus07! Good question In the five weeks or so that I've owned the camera, Xiaomi has updated the android app about 4 times iirc. Ditto with iOS, although the iOS updates have happened a few days after the Android update. It appears that they are intent on supporting this 360 camera. FWIW AndyRC said the same thing happened to their drone. Nice hardware, buggy software. But they fixed the software gradually until it became "a near perfect drone" according to Andy RC. Even now, they seem to be working on a desktop app, which would solve two of the biggest issues: the workflow and the compatibility. Best regards, Mic
360Rumors.com Great info Mic! How about in-camera firmware? was it updated? I just hope they fix all the issues as I am getting ready to buy one.. budget is $250.. Thanks again for the info man!
Hi lexxxus07. They updated the firmware I think twice now in that time period. You can still get it for $250 if you use the coupon code in the description. Best regards, Mic
Given that I've ordered the Mi Sphere today and need to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy S5 phone to work with the app, would you recommend a Samsung Galaxy S7 or the Samsung Galaxy S8+ phone in order to work with the Mi Sphere. I saw that you gave a link to the old 1.6.3.12499 version of the app in order to do away with issues with image stabilization. But, I know that you recommended version 1.7 of the app to solve the problem with the Preview not showing on the S8+ phone. I'd like to have the ability to preview and turn off image stabilization when needed. Is it possible to have both with a Galaxy S7? Thanks from Heather.
Hi Heather! Congrats on ordering the Mi Sphere! I use Samsung S8+ and I have no problem. You could get the S8+, and install 2 versions of the app. One version of the app is from the Google Play store -- version 1.7. This will fix the preview issue, and some say it has nicer photo rendering (i haven't compared). Then you can also install 1.6.3 using the link I provided. You can use 1.6.3 if you want to turn off stabilization. Congrats again and btw I also highly recommend the Facebook group for Mi Sphere: facebook.com/groups/mijia360cam Best regards, Mic
Hello Mic! I hope you can make a revisit video for the Mijia after all the updates and release of the desktop app and as the price dropped dramatically.. I got it for $199 and can't wait to get it mailed! Thanks!
Hi Roadbiker. The Virb is expensive but it has many useful features. Check out this post: 360rumors.com/2017/06/10-cool-features-garmin-virb-360-might-not-know.html Best regards, Mic
That's interesting to read. It packs quite a lot of features and the one I like the most is with the stabilisation, the primary view can always point at where the camera is heading to. Very good if I want to put on my bike. But One thing I worry the most is how rugged it is. My gear 360 went dead in a month of use after I put it on my steerer tube. Also, the lenses are the furthest apart compared to other cameras (except sp360 4k), especially with the mijia 360 here. I worry that the stitching with close objects will be bad.
Is the video resolution downgraded when moving the video from the camera to the phone or does it see that you're using an iOS device before hitting record and then downgrades it while recording? Hope that makes sense.
Hi pianoomann88. The files are full resolution (unless you change that setting in the app). It's only when you export the video that it decreases resolution. If your phone doesnt support full resolution now, you can keep the original files and then re-export them in full resolution when you get a newer phone in the future, or if they add desktop software. Best regards, Mic
Hi DG. Yes. By default, the unstitched photos and videos are double circular fisheye. You can split them into separate files using an image editor (for the photo) or video editor (for the video). Sample unstitched files here: drive.google.com/open?id=0B4RnW2_ZeadSamJpSURuQzktSEU&pageId=106119844114015695422
Using my Sony Z3 with 801 CPU though the camera itself shoots at 3456x1728, after getting it to my phone the resolution drops to 1440x720 with a very high compression and poor quality. Of course I can get 3456x1728 videos directly from SD-card but it comes in 2 hemispheres and they need some stitching software to upload on RUclips. Do you use any external stitching software on your computer or this video comes so good directly from the camera? And all you need is 625 or higher CPU phone to upload it to RUclips with such a nice resolution and quality? And in-built Mi Sphere Android app stitching software does such a perfect stitching all by itself? I well aware how much stitching software for Windows cost (many hundreds of dollars which is ridiculous for the amateur camera owner) and instead consider buying Sony XZ Premium phone with 835 CPU. Will it be enough to upload videos with the same great quality, not using a computer? Thank you!
Hi Alex. This is stitched with the Xiaomi app. Some phones can stitch at full resolution, others cannot. You need a Snapdragon 625 or higher to get full resolution. Yes Sony XZ Premium has more than enough power to stitch at full resolution. Best regards, Mic

Hi FotoAmg. When using 360 cameras, you have to be very careful to avoid putting important subjects -- especially faces -- in between lenses. As a rule of thumb, if you can see both lenses at the same time (for example you are standing on the side of the camera), then you are probably in the stitch line. Instead, you need to be sure to have each person stay on only one lens' view. Pls. try that and let me know how it works for you! Best regards, Mic

360Rumors.com thank you so much Mic, your videos & especially your time to a new sub are without doubt brilliant, I'm glad for me 2 say camera is on order & can't wait, you gave clean simple & effective video's that take the worry about purchase away from me, we have a saying where I come from " made round to go around " & your name would be Mick, reviews on websites are just that & you show that up, thanks again Mic
My phone meets the minimum app requirements, and I was able to render and use you sample video (thanks for sharing those). Is there any desktop software that can work with this camera? you said that Xiaomi doesn't have any, but I was wondering if there are any 3rd party tools that work. Thanks!
Hi Jason. There are some 3rd party software that can stitch Xiaomi videos such as VideoStitch, Autopano Video, Mettle Skybox, and Muvee for Mac.
Best regards,
Mic
Is the app on the phone as good as insta360 one app? I have both the insta360 one and one x and I bought it because the ease of use of the app with pivot points and editing capability. I think the app is an important part. Do you have a sample video of how you as a user of this 360 camera edit a 360 video on a smartphone? I mostly do video
Hi Ebert. Congratulations on getting Insta360 One and One X. If your interest is video, I honestly would recommend you stick with Insta360 One X. It is much better than Mi Sphere for video. To edit 360 videos on phone with the Mi sphere I would use an app such as Collect. Here is a tutorial: ruclips.net/video/HJDuxWMmSYA/видео.html
@@360vroomers is the workflow in the app able to do what insta360 one x do? Like pivot point and edit in the app?
@@EberhardOjong Hi Ebert. no the mi sphere app has more limited editing options. but you can use Collect360 to do pivot point etc. ruclips.net/video/HJDuxWMmSYA/видео.html
Are the issues with stabilocation solved already? Is already PC switching programme available?
JK JK hi there! Yes the stabilization issues are now resolved and yes there is a desktop app for windows!
Hai mic any lens replacement for Mijia Mi sphere???
Hi Siddharth. Sorry about your lens! You can try posting about your lens on facebook.com/groups/mijia360cam - but usually they will say that it costs as much to fix it as to buy a new one
Would be interesting to compare with the Yi camera that should be out very soon.
Thanks Marc. I will definitely do that if and when I get the Yi.
I have a note 8 and I cannot figure out why it won't allow me to choose the highest resolution. Any suggestions?
Best regards,
Mic
Best regards,
Mic
360Rumors.com Great info Mic! How about in-camera firmware? was it updated? I just hope they fix all the issues as I am getting ready to buy one.. budget is $250.. Thanks again for the info man!
Hi lexxxus07. They updated the firmware I think twice now in that time period. You can still get it for $250 if you use the coupon code in the description.
Best regards,
Mic
360Rumors.com Thanks again Mic! I'll keep my eye on the channel and your cool website.. to get the most out of it :)
Thanks buddy! I'm sure Xiaomi will keep improving the app, so I will do my best to keep you guys updated!
Congrats again and btw I also highly recommend the Facebook group for Mi Sphere: facebook.com/groups/mijia360cam
Best regards,
Mic

Can you do a review on Garmin Virb 360?
Hi Roadbiker. I absolutely will do a review on the Virb 360. Mine should arrive in a few days. :D Best regards, Mic
Thanks! wondering is the price tag justifiable! look forward to it.
Hi Roadbiker. The Virb is expensive but it has many useful features. Check out this post: 360rumors.com/2017/06/10-cool-features-garmin-virb-360-might-not-know.html
Best regards,
Mic
That's interesting to read. It packs quite a lot of features and the one I like the most is with the stabilisation, the primary view can always point at where the camera is heading to. Very good if I want to put on my bike. But One thing I worry the most is how rugged it is. My gear 360 went dead in a month of use after I put it on my steerer tube. Also, the lenses are the furthest apart compared to other cameras (except sp360 4k), especially with the mijia 360 here. I worry that the stitching with close objects will be bad.
I will do my best to answer those questions when I get the Virb :)
Where is the location? It's very nice place.
Hi Fredd this is terranea resort in palos verdes, california.
ah can any one please tell me where to get xiaomi mijia mi sphere 360 please. cz it's not available on Amazon.
Hi Vyshakh. It's available here: goo.gl/kO0CuA They ship to 260+ countries
Best regards,
Mic
360Rumors.com Great to know! Thank you for your response. Much appreciated.
You're welcome!
Can you split into 2 images , 180 degree ?
Hi DG. Yes. By default, the unstitched photos and videos are double circular fisheye. You can split them into separate files using an image editor (for the photo) or video editor (for the video). Sample unstitched files here: drive.google.com/open?id=0B4RnW2_ZeadSamJpSURuQzktSEU&pageId=106119844114015695422
Can i know why the price of Xiaomi keeps raising up on gearbest!!!
Thank you, Mic, for good news! Great review and nice car!
Thanks Alex!
Thanks for a great review
Thanks Zoltan!
Thank you this video was very helpful.

Hi Mic!
I have issues with the panorama images also visible 2 columns where not fit perfectly also brightness is not the same, see my sample images:
drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B_hyhUvel-mhYmw2UnNIVlFNWk0?usp=sharing
Your panoramas does not have those glitches how do you configure it or fix?
Thanks!
I did not start to check videos yet only the pictures...
Best regards,
Mic
Thanks.
