Hi there, always liked your video. Me too got my Xiaomi mi sphere after watching many of your videos. Today I noticed that videos that I have take yesterday. There's this black patch on certain side of the clip? I don't know why this happens. I took video while I do bicycle tour in Cambodia now. Did calibration thingy too and seems like nothing I do could help in this situation even I switch on the camera and look into the 'live' while connected to the camera itself. The big black patch is there too. Screen broke? There is no visible cracks or broken pcs visible when I look into it from video or externally. Many thanks
Thanks Iram! Congrats on getting the Mi Sphere! Still one of my favorite cameras even today. BTW there's a new version of this tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/GxuwONmLTGE/видео.html And stay tuned for a very cool video I will post about the Mi Sphere soon :D
Hi. That's the problem - there is no desktop software so far. And the iphone app seems to export at a limited resolution of 2304 x 1152. On my samsung s8+, it exports at the full 3456 x 1728. This is why I would not recommend it for video for iphone, until they fix this issue. For photos, no problem on either ios or android, i get the full 6912 x 3456 resolution.
Yes, first I though I selected a wrong resolution. Don't know why iPhone or iOS limits the video. Photos are fine with me as well. Let's see. Camera is not even on their Chinese website. Hope there will be a PC/Mac software soon. Even the cheap 100 USD cams had a PC/Mac software.
Sorry, I forgot: Great video! Very useful, especially as many users are not familiar with this technique. A lot of either flat or double spherical videos here on youtube.
I have a couple of questions for the peanut gallery. today was the first time I've had a chance to play around with my new camera. I also did the app and firmware update this morning. I've noticed my camera is running really really hot and my battery life is terrible. battery is almost dead after 30 minutes total on time. I don't know this is related but it says the sd card I'm using isn't one of the recommended cards. it's still a lexar 300x micro SD XC 64 GB card is it possible the card is my issue. TIA for any thoughts or advice.
Hi Kilroy. mine runs hot too and mine seemed to have a short battery life too. But I was able to record 90 mins nonstop. what changed is that i charged it until the battery life was blue (fully charged) which took several hours. i did that full charge twice. now the battery life is decent. re mem card i use a sandisk uhs3 card: amzn.to/2r9GQLc
Hi Thanks for the video very interesting, I just have a question about my mi sphere, I download the app on my iphone 5 but it doesn't show the preview in the phone its just black screen! do you have any idea why is that? thanks a lot for any help.
Hi arianclassic Salih. I think the iphone 5 is not powerful enough to stitch Mi Sphere. But if you have a PC or Mac, there is a desktop app for stitching mi sphere photos and videos.
As the resolution goes down when downloaded on the iOS App, can't you just pull the memory card out and import the video in full resolution on a mac and stitch it there with Adobe Pr etc.? Many thanks in advance! Just found your blog/website recently, keep up the good work!
Lord Virk yes it is possible to get full resolution if stitched with third party software. There are a few that people have used such as muvee, autopano, video stitch.
Congratulations smitthone! there are several major video editors that can edit in 360 such as Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus 2017, PowerDirector 15. Best regards, Mic
I really enjoyed your review of this cam! I'm interested in getting one but I have an Apple phone.... is the a 360 cam out there that is comparable but for iOS?
Thank you very much Phil. I think the 2 best ones for iOS are: Garmin Virb 360 ($799 360rumors.com/2017/05/can-now-preorder-virb-360-11-things-know-preordering.html ) or Insta360 Nano ($199 360rumors.com/2017/04/insta360-nano-now-first-360-camera-realtime-image-stabilization-works.html ). Best regards, Mic
Thanks Den. You're right. Video can be adjusted for resolution, white balance, exposure compensation and "recording cycle" (i don't know what it does). Changes to exposure or white balance are shown in realtime. Best regards, Mic
so informative, you are a legend, thank you so so much for uploading the unprocessed files to make sure the app works, just gonna test now and hope it works, would you recommend buying this or waiting for the kodak orbit ? My main aim would be to use it for property tours and I am looking for the best quality for around £400 mainly stills but video is a real plus, the ricoh s seems to be recommend as the best for stills would the xiaomi camera be better ? thanks again so much your videos ha e really helped me and If I do buy the xiaomi then I'll us your link . Big Love and Blessings Matt
Thank you very much Matt! It seems that the Xiaomi has been winning more accolades than the Orbit360, at least based on early samples from the Orbit, due to stitching and consistency of sharpness across the frame. Between the Xiaomi and Theta, the Xiaomi has noticeably better image quality, if nothing else because of the higher resolution. The Theta's advantage is that there are several 3rd party apps for it. Thanks again! God bless, Mic
zhong yang congratulations on getting madventure and thanks for watching my videos! iphone 7 should be able to see live view. If you cannot see live view, i think you need to update the firmware. You can download firmware here. ez-team.com/xiaomi.html please follow instructions carefully. Also pls join facebook.com/groups/mijia360cam Best regards, Mic
Hi Vada. If you want the full video resolution, the oldest version you can use is S7. If you are ok with 2304 x 1152 resolution, you can use S6 (you need to switch the recording to 2304 x 1152 or else it will stitch the 3.5K at 1920 x 960).
yes video is stitched automatically in the app. but on iphone it seems to be limited to 2K. on my samsung s8 and a friend's S7, it stitches at full resolution. not sure about other android phones.
Hi Axel. Yes there is a time lapse function in the video mode. You can choose intervals from 0.5 seconds to 60 seconds. It will take photos and assemble them into a video. At the end you will get a video but not the individual photos.
I bought the Benro MK10 but i'm annoyed from the ballhead appearing in the pictures when using the Mijia 360. But i've seen you don't have the ballhead mounted. How can i get rid of the ballhead. It seems that just unscrewing doesn't work or makes weird noises :-/
Daniel Dacoco hi Daniel. the ballhead is removable but they might have put loctite.... i would extend fully and remove it while holding the thinnest segment.
Congrats! BTW, did you know that this video is the old version of my tutorial? There's a new tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/Y_kpL6auW7k/видео.html and be sure to check my new video on a combination lens cap + camera case for the Xiaomi! :D Best regards, Mic
360Rumors.com yes I've seen it :) The case seems nice but I don't know where to buy it in europe because it seems to be discontinued. Amazon ships to germany for the double price (which is still okay).
Thanks Sergio! The Xiaomi cannot live stream. If you want live streaming, it is probably best to wait for the Yi 360 VR, which can live stream at up to 2.5K, or you can get insta360 air or nano. Best regards, Mic
Oh I see. Yes it's possible. You just crop the 360 photo or video to the same field of view as an action cam. Here is a sample cropped photo: goo.gl/photos/yhVF9fke2bBfdwgE6 Cropping works better for photos (because it has 23.88 mp). For videos, if you crop them to the same view as an action cam, the resolution will be much lower.
Thanks Daniel! Yes I think Theta Converter is one of the most useful apps for 360 photos. There's an iOS version too called edit360 (same author, but it's a paid app). Thanks again.

Thank you again for your video. This one was very instructive for me. I just got my Xiaomi today

16:00 the app changed now; I was able to download a stitched file on my iPhone.
(not a double fisheye spherical video - it's a equirectangular video)
ok great!
Do you know: Is there a PC / Mac Software by MI?
Not sure if the app converts highest resolution possible.

Do you use the recommended 32gb microSDHC card or the 64GB microSDXC?
Hi kilroy. This is the one I use goo.gl/rfL1ND and it hasn't failed me so far. Best regards, Mic

Im trying to dl the app but its written in chineese. I have an android. Where can i find the app for the 360 camera.
Here is the link. it is not in chinese play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xiaomi.madv360.sv1out
Thank for review.
You missed to show video shooting settings in camera app.

你好 我看了你的视频很喜欢 我新买了madventure 360
我没办法看live images 在我的苹果7,是我哪做错了?可以帮我吗?

thank you ,i will try it.
what is the oldest version of a Samsung I can download android app to? I have a Samsung Galaxy 4 but, that doesn't want to accept the app.
Hi Vada. If you want the full video resolution, the oldest version you can use is S7. If you are ok with 2304 x 1152 resolution, you can use S6 (you need to switch the recording to 2304 x 1152 or else it will stitch the 3.5K at 1920 x 960).
hello and thanks for video! one question, does it autostitch the video?
yes video is stitched automatically in the app. but on iphone it seems to be limited to 2K. on my samsung s8 and a friend's S7, it stitches at full resolution. not sure about other android phones.
360Rumors.com thank you!
another quick question, can you make timelapse videos with this camera? or just make photos and then making them a video?

Daniel Dacoco hi Daniel. the ballhead is removable but they might have put loctite.... i would extend fully and remove it while holding the thinnest segment.
Yea just did it. Worked after using a little force :-)
Congrats! BTW, did you know that this video is the old version of my tutorial? There's a new tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/Y_kpL6auW7k/видео.html and be sure to check my new video on a combination lens cap + camera case for the Xiaomi! :D Best regards, Mic

Great video, you put a lot of heart to it, would you mind tell me if the Xiaomi 360 can stream live on social media?
Thanks Sergio! The Xiaomi cannot live stream. If you want live streaming, it is probably best to wait for the Yi 360 VR, which can live stream at up to 2.5K, or you can get insta360 air or nano. Best regards, Mic
Can I take a picture/video from one camera instead of 2?
I'm not sure I understand your question... You can take a picture or video with one xiaomi camera.
Take a pic or video just like the xiaomi yi action cam kind of format instead of 360 panorama picture/video
Oh I see. Yes it's possible. You just crop the 360 photo or video to the same field of view as an action cam. Here is a sample cropped photo: goo.gl/photos/yhVF9fke2bBfdwgE6
Cropping works better for photos (because it has 23.88 mp). For videos, if you crop them to the same view as an action cam, the resolution will be much lower.
360Rumors.com thank you!
Mike Caesario oh i forgot. A free app for cropping the photo or video is insta360 studio for windows or mac
anyone know how to reset the wifi password? Never should have gotten a camera w/o directions I could read.
Hi Kilroy. Could have happened to anyone, really. Anyway, press and hold the Wi-Fi button for 5 seconds to reset Wi-Fi password.
My Cam overheats ...just 2 minutes of photo/video shoot...It is like hot metal..Is that normal ?
Hi Mubeen. Mine gets quite hot but I can record for 1 hr. 35 mins. before it runs out of battery. My test was in 71F weather. Best regards, Mic
Thank you very much. Great Video.
About injecting Metadata for Facebook I recommend Theta Converter free for Android.
Thanks Daniel! Yes I think Theta Converter is one of the most useful apps for 360 photos. There's an iOS version too called edit360 (same author, but it's a paid app). Thanks again.
