The first honest review I've ever seen. No one talks about how the upgrade from 14pro to 15pro is practically non-existent. 14pro colours are even far better to me than the boring titanium colours. Sheesh. Guess innovation has ended for the iphone

I'm not even switching from the 13 Pro to the 15 Pro. The 13 is holding up that well I'm going to keep it going, maybe chuck a new battery at it next year and wait for the 16 or 17 I think.

Thanks for the video, I was actually thinking of the same thing when I saw the presentation from Apple. I’m sticking with my 14 Pro for a couple years and see what Apple comes out with by then. I’m really happy with my 14 Pro, best iPhone I’ve had since the XS Max.

One thing I’m surprised a lot of reviewers forget to mention is the post warranty repair costs if your iPhone goes bust. A new iPhone comes with a 1 year warranty and peace of mind.
Secondly, the battery on the iPhone 14 Pro is infamously terrible. I don’t think a new battery (now much more expensive to replace through Apple) is going to help anyway because it’s mostly an efficiency issue.
I think 14 Pro to 15 Pro Max is a reasonable upgrade for the above two reasons.

    • @1PaulJ

If I were you I’d get the 15 Pro a max. But ultimately, if you can, I’d recommend staying another year with your iPhone 13 if it is working fine and has no damage or anything. Because at the end of the day, you won’t really notice the upgrade unless you’re coming from an even older iPhone. I jumped from the 8 to the 14 Pro Max and the experience was amazing, but the experience was similar to the 8, but the hardware changes are very welcome

There shouldn't be a huge reason to upgrade from a 14 Pro to a 15 Pro. I'd concede that the summary graphic is not great, but here are the things I value in the 15 Pro (Max):
First: the A17 Pro cheap is quite a significant upgrade, moving to 3nm lithography, but more importantly, enabling hardware enabled ray tracing, which is a game changer for gaming.
Second: the camera despite remaining 48MP is a very significant upgrade on last year's. Slating it because it's still 48MP would be like saying the iPhone 12 Pro is not a significant upgrade on the iPhone 6S because their main cameras are both 12MP. This year sees a larger sensor which means more light and more raw information for better pictures, more capable ISP that brings new features enabling greater creativity like recomposing pictures after the fact, including changing focus in a portrait and level of blur etc. The switch to USB-C also allows for recording directly to an external drive, making it actually feasible to shoot long sequences in 4K60 Pro Res (you could only shoot 4K30 before, and all it takes if a couple of minutes to fill up a phone's storage). Also the lenses are improved to significantly reduce lens flairing, which has been an issue since maybe iPhone 11 Pro or 12 Pro (I don't remember exactly). Then spatial video could be useful future-proofing for many, so any new important memories may be captured in a way that will be much more immersive for posterity.
Third: shedding 20g of weight is significant to improving usability of especially the pro max model. It is now closer in weight to last year's Pro vs last year's Pro Max. It's easy to slate the action button as being insignificant but it still makes the phone more flexible, as does switch to USB-C which means you're less likely to find yourself stuck away without the right cable. Yes Apple shouldn't get credit for this, as they were forced too, but for the consumer it still contributes to overall improvements in usability and flexibility of the device.
So sure, these are all incremental, and I'd agree with you on that. It's not a revolutionary step forward, but these are still valuable improvements nonetheless for users and I won't begrudge anyone who's got a 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max that thinks, 'you know what, I'll upgrade anyway'. Of course they don't have to, and should not feel compelled to

If they had upgraded it to thunderbolt I'd have upgraded to the 15 Pro Max from my 13 Pro Max but as you said even less reason for the none max version users. I have a Pixel 7 Pro and the 5x telephoto is great but I'd rather carry that and my iPhone then pay out another £1600 for the 1TB.

@@1PaulJ to be fair I like to keep all my photos and video stored locally and that's about 250GB and then I have all my music downloaded which is about 70GB. When I go away I'll often download about 200-300GB of media as well. I intended and still might keep 13 Pro Max longer than 3 years so it was a good investment for me individually. I did once film a pro raw video that was 30 minutes long as well! Cloud storage is great if you have signal and aren't roaming.

  • @Lewpo016

Pro iPhones are built to last 3 years anyway, so even if the 15 was revolutionary in every way if you bought a 14 pro last year it still wouldn’t be worth the upgrade. I for one however will be upgrading from a non pro 13, which is a much more justified purchase.
