Rest in Paradise Margaret. Just had to come and listen to this today, 57 is far too young for that evil thing called cancer to take you away. Lots of fond memories of seeing you in concert as a teenager xxx
I remember seeing Peking Man play this in Albert Park in Auckland around 1984. I was about 15 and was totally mesmerised by Margaret Ulrich’s dance moves and confidence on stage. What a treasure… Sad news that she’s gone 😢
This song just keeps on giving. I loved it then and I love it now. I remember being so in awe of Margaret Urlich and the video was a masterpiece of it's time and plays a huge part in NZ music history
Unbelievable... for some reason I had this song stuck in my head and I felt compelled to find it ...just couldn't remember the name and artist all I could remember was the word 'echo'. So grateful for RUclips. My search started with any Patea Maori Club, Slice of Heaven, Dragon, Sharon O'Neil and then to Peking Man. Gotta love that suggestions bar ... and to KneesTease for the upload. I can finally sleep now.
My partner and I just had that same kind of moment. So I hummed it badly and it came up straight away.. Maybe humming wasn't so bad after all 😂😂 Another Music legend gone 🎶😢RIP Margaret 🙏
this track was around at a time when the nz govt refused to pay for international music videos ( early 1986 )...I used to hate this song as we were only shown home grown music vids on RTR, what a fool I have been, this track is a little kiwi gem
Govts never paid for overseas videos. And nobody stopped them being imported or played. There was an issue around the newly introduced goods and services tax. And that didn't just apply to music products. Many countries, including Australia had local music quota requirements. Broadcasters had to play a certain percentage of local music by law. New Zealand never had that. The playing of NZ music was voluntary. Broadcasters did so, by their own choice. Or by voluntary agreements. But It was never required by law, as in quotas.
Memories of growing up in Porirua, mid 1980s. Margaret Urlich was such a talent, full of sass, style and a recognisable voice. And she could dance too! So sad to hear she passed away this week. RIP.
Lol inthought wow it's my windows screen saver...lmao..thays what it was basically...windows Screensaver. Boy did inplay around with that to try and get the same effect on my screen
I moved to New Zealand from the UK when I was seventeen, this was one of the first songs I heard on NZ radio while working in Auckland. I loved the song and sound. I"m still here in NZ with a family and still love this song.
I have their CD and this song on 12 inch vinyl. I have seen them in concert (remember the concert for Oddessy House with DD Smash at the Logan Campbell Centre?). I had the hots for Margaret Urlich from way back then!
Didn't know this was a kiwi band, let alone a dunners band! As a proud dunedinite, lyrics here! You hear all the words that I tell you You touch upon the things that I feel Every movement I make tells a secret I had promised I would never reveal It's not that I'm trying to mislead you It's just that I'm misleading myself And now that the wall is deleted I'm taking time to build a house I'm going to build a room that echoes Around and around and around with its own sound Round and around I won't need to be there Around and around and around with its own sound A sound that no one has to hear I'm painting my face with numbers A message that you won't understand I look at myself in the mirror I give myself a helping hand I will listen to the sound that surrounds me Even though I won't be there at all So next time you need some steps to fall down Give my room of sound a very loud call I'm gonna build a room that echoes Around and around and around with its own sound Round and around, I won't need to be there Around and around and around with its own sound A sound that no one has to hear A sound A sound that A sound that tells A sound that tells you A sound that tells you what you've got A sound that tells you what you're not A sound that tells you what you need A sound that tells you Around and around and around with its own sound Round and around I won't need to be there Around and around and around with its own sound A sound that no one has to hear Around and around and around with its own sound Round and around I won't need to be there Around and around and around with its own sound Round and around I won't need to be there Around and around and around with its own sound Round and around I won't need to be there Around and around and around with its own sound Round and around I won't need to be there Around and around and around with its own sound
Those are real computer graphics too. That was pretty high tech for the 1980's. The look like the sorts of things you could program as a graphis effect on a Commadore 64 or something. Some of the effects are done by shifting the colour palette so the graphic appears to move out from the centre.
As an 8 yo boy I won a dance competition at James Holden's birthday. I remember checking at the cute girl neighbour to make sure she was watching me. Looking back on it - I think I made her uncomfortable lol. Love this song
Lol I listen to this when I'm in the gym with my head phones on ,and all that other rap garbage playing nowadays ,may you rest in peace sweet princess Margaret 😌
yes Peking man was Margare Urlich and her brother...some pretty trippy sounz for bak in that era...now if someone could post a version of Her singing Darryl Braithwaites "The Horse" my life would be complete
Still an incredibly good song after all of these years. RIP Margaret Urlich

Omg I remember that time like yesterday..boy I was pissed about it too!
It wasn't the government. It was TVNZ
They said to the record companies that where promotion videos for the songs
@malcolmbox6173 TVNZ was govt owned
Can't believe Margeret is gone. She was one incredible woman with one incredible voice
#RIP Margaret. Thank you for everything.
RIP Margaret Urlich. 🙏 thank you for the music.
Memories of growing up in Porirua, mid 1980s. Margaret Urlich was such a talent, full of sass, style and a recognisable voice. And she could dance too! So sad to hear she passed away this week. RIP.

Had to come and just spend some time with this song. Vale Margaret Urlich. Thank you for the music
As an 80s kid this was advanced computer generated graphics to me.
Lol inthought wow it's my windows screen saver...lmao..thays what it was basically...windows Screensaver. Boy did inplay around with that to try and get the same effect on my screen
Loved this song when I was a kid

RIP Margaret Urlich. Great work.

RIP in loving memory of NZ.

If this doesn't make you homesick - you're dead from the heart up, mate.
+Erik van Bommel homesick for what?
+Narad Muni home. only applies to those from there.
Guess I’m dead then according to your logic
Didn't know this was a kiwi band, let alone a dunners band! As a proud dunedinite, lyrics here!
You hear all the words that I tell you
You touch upon the things that I feel
Every movement I make tells a secret
I had promised I would never reveal
It's not that I'm trying to mislead you
It's just that I'm misleading myself
And now that the wall is deleted
I'm taking time to build a house
I'm going to build a room that echoes
Around and around and around with its own sound
Round and around I won't need to be there
Around and around and around with its own sound
A sound that no one has to hear
I'm painting my face with numbers
A message that you won't understand
I look at myself in the mirror
I give myself a helping hand
I will listen to the sound that surrounds me
Even though I won't be there at all
So next time you need some steps to fall down
Give my room of sound a very loud call
I'm gonna build a room that echoes
Around and around and around with its own sound
Round and around, I won't need to be there
Around and around and around with its own sound
A sound that no one has to hear
A sound
A sound that
A sound that tells
A sound that tells you
A sound that tells you what you've got
A sound that tells you what you're not
A sound that tells you what you need
A sound that tells you
Around and around and around with its own sound
Round and around I won't need to be there
Around and around and around with its own sound
A sound that no one has to hear
Around and around and around with its own sound
Round and around I won't need to be there
Around and around and around with its own sound
Round and around I won't need to be there
Around and around and around with its own sound
Round and around I won't need to be there
Around and around and around with its own sound
Round and around I won't need to be there
Around and around and around with its own sound
Thanx. What brilliant lyrics! 📄 🖋 👀 🎶

Done on a Avid Effects Desk
Dispite its age it is still quite a funky video. Just shows that ones a good song, always a good song.
Yeah a documentary said she always wanted to be a dancer but I think her brother, Pat heard her sing I think. and asked her to sing on this.
