This song makes me puff out my chest! Go PMC, makes me proud to be a kiwi. Everytime I hear this, I feel like I could take on the world, great inspiration. Dalvanius Prime is a LEGEND! Nga mihi team!
Damn.. Every time I hear this song it reminds me of the Maori fellas I played with while living in New Zealand. Those maori guys, even their frightening size and mongrel on the pitch - could always make you laugh and smile off the pitch.
Just come back from the Poi E workshop in Auckland, boy it was a true pleasure was super proud to be up there singing with some of the remaining original's . Can't wait for the movie to come out
As a kid I lived in Kakaramea just out of Patea. My Mother & Father had the Kakaramea Pub . " Great Memories" I new most of the people in this video as friend back then and still have fond memories of them all. Cheers to you all. Dave Clayton.
Love this song, the first time I heard it was earlier this month. I'm in the US west coast and it reminds me of songs in Hawaii. Beautiful people, beautiful music. And yes, I'm another person who wants to visit NZ!
Discovered this song a few weeks ago on RAGE one Saturday morning, Love it, love the culture, found it inspirational and now play it regularly as a motivational song to start the day. In a few years time I hope to spend some time discovering NZ, having been there twice years ago for a short work assignment.
I am an Indian and i just love this song 💓! I heard it on Tik tok and it took me infinite efforts to find this out on RUclips! I am finally here! This song is so vibrant!
This was done in my husband Errol Elliott home place in New Zealand. He was born in Waitara Taranaki New Zealand. One of our favourite songs and places in New Zealand ❤❤ I have this song as my ringtone on my phone ❤❤
this song makes me proud to be a New Zealander, it got sung neumerous times at school assemblys when back in primary school 16 years later at 21 years old still love this song never gets old.
Met Dalvanius at a gas station back in the 70s, i had run out of gas, he helped me to sort it out, i think both of us were not really good in fixing the prob, but thank you for helping
While I would dearly love to come to New Zealand in person, the years are growing short for me, and I'm a starving artist .....I doubt I'll ever have the funds to make the trip.....but this song ! a part of my soul dances with you all.....there are few tunes in the history of music that convey such joy in life....I never tire of it ....and love every part of the video ....I've listened to, and watched the more polished versions of this wonderful song ...but this slice of life and times remains my favorite ......

This was my era, I learned the lyrics and the poi to this and did it with my best friend everyday. As a 52 yr old woman now, I still play this track every Saturday morning ❤️ #pateamaoriclub
Indian here. Visited NZ on a 20 day vacation and just fell in love with it. Amazing nature, friendly people and the most chilled out nation I have ever been to. I was just a tourist there and I am sure Aotearoa will have its share of problems. But I am sure that its one of the best countries to live in. Just waiting to visit NZ visit again, do more hikies, drink more wine, eat more Mince Cheese pie and fish and chips.
That opening line though , gets me all the time. Then BOOM! Krank it up, lol I live in Hawera and can never drive through Patea on the way home with-out singing part of this song. ICONIC!
Ko Porourangi hoki no Te Araroa taku papa ko Wiremu Bill Kara what a ia me taku whaea no Tainui Ngapuhi Porourangi ngaa mihi koutou katoa. Mean Ko Charlotte Henrietta Tekerei
I spent a night on the town with Dal in Wellington about 1996. Went from club to club with the big man and watched him play live in a bar up Cuba Street. What a wonderful man he was. A lovely, friendly and witty man. He drank red wine, I drank rum. I felt blessed to spend time with him
Wow! This brought back some sweet memories and a few chicken skin. I was in high school when I first heard this in our Hawaiian Club in school. It was an instant fav at the time for us young teens. I’m guessing the reason was, as I still feel today, it was cool and refreshing to see, and hear, our Polynesian brothers and sisters present to the world part of their culture and willing to have an open mind to the world by blending part of what was happening in music at the time. Yes, it had a little hip-hop. But, it was ALL Maori Mana. And it was amazing. I’m looking forward to seeing the movie of how it all got together. Thanks for bringing back some truly sweet memories of my youth. Aloha a me Kia Ora, my Maori family ~Keali'i 🎼🎶🎵🤙🏾❤️
Can't wait to see the movie on the making of Poi E that's about to be released - this song was so catchy - it put a smile on your face every time it came on the radio in the 80s! I was picking apples in the hot Hawke's Bay sun with my transistor and Poi E brings those memories back.
This song gives me a lot of strength to overcome any difficult situation , this world put me through. I believe, it is blessed my spiritually clean Maori ancestors that is why, I am proud of our New Zealand spiritually clean Maori spirituality. I love to show this to my son in future. I wish he takes interest in spiritually clean Maori spirituality if he is guided to.
What about the MORIORIES ?????clean heritage are you sure????Check your facts....their were peaceful people here first who got eaten by YOUR ANCESTORS....
Ngati porou here. Just leaving my utmost aroha and respect to my taranaki whanau. I remember this song and video clip and where I was at that time. Wainuiomata 1980s. Best days of my life.
KIA KAHA TE REO MAORI! I was teaching at the Patea Area School today and the Maori Club is just down the road. Had to listen to this classic tune because its been stuck in my head all day!
Why do I feel like I’m watching this on a school break in 1983 while laying on the couch with my cousins while this just comes up with all our blankets on the floor just laying down
The song is 31 years old and is still one of the best Maori songs.

lean out beside me, so deceptively.
Swing round and down, spin towards me

my whirling emotions, my poi, Yeah!

Damn.. Every time I hear this song it reminds me of the Maori fellas I played with while living in New Zealand. Those maori guys, even their frightening size and mongrel on the pitch - could always make you laugh and smile off the pitch.
Are you from the "some bugger stole my car" video?
Been in the uk 11+years now and this song makes me feel so nostalgic and brings back so many memories

I am blessed to have found this. Makes me happy seeing people happy. It fills my heart. Love from the Philippines

Yes. It makes you proud to be Kiwi when listening to this song 😊
We were all so happy to see this gorgeous song and performance.
It has the fragrance of humanity...

It will be cool to see you come back again.

Great song, loved by all. Happy Kiwi memories singing along with the car radio turned up loud!
Aloha a me Kia Ora, my Maori family

MUCH love N.Z
100%
Every time I listen to this I get goose bumps, big time! Suuuuupeeeeer!!!
