    I remember when Durant came out in Emerging Powers. I played that deck so much (albeit without the Weavile) that I had an excel spreadsheet for every matchup with how many turns you could win in with getting the first turn 4 mill. I had top decks like Eels, Truth, Magnezone/Yanmega, Lost Gengar, and ReshiBoar down to a science. Then I cried as the deck quickly became useless with the release of Mewtwo EX.

    • @Gatsbeau
      @Gatsbeau 3 месяца назад +1

      I only reply because I also played the hell out of Durant as well and it got me my only top cut at an event lol
      Durant came out in Noble Victories.
      Durant was actually fine after Mewtwo EX because of resistance+eviolite+special metal energy. Mewtwo needed two energy to do AT LEAST 10 damage to it, and if the opponent wasn't paying attention you could just catcher something else up. In fact, certain decklists even RAN Mewtwo just to dunk on its own popularity.
      What REALLY killed Durant was Darkrai EX, which is where I think EX's just started getting too crazy. Darkrai dealing 70 was a HUGE deal cause you needed to have either Eviolite or Special Metal at all times since Durant had 70HP, which of course didn't make a difference since Night Spear also did 30 to the bench. It was just too much damage to keep up with. Combined with the fact that Dark Patches made Dark decks just fast enough and every Darkrai deck was essentially Catcher-immune sealed the deal.
      ...and Heatmor I guess lol

      @@Gatsbeau You right, I kept thinking it was EP Durant came out in, but it was NV, because that was the Eel set. Catcher was the important card I was thinking of from EP.
      I say Mewtwo because it made a lot of match ups harder because it speed the format up considerably. White/Green Tea decks, the ZekEels w/Mewtwo, DMT, and yes of course, Heatmor. But when you had decks shifting from set up and consistency to Drop Mewtwo with DCE and enough energy to power a small town, the deck quickly lost its power.
      Yes the Darkrai matchup was unplayable, but Mewtwo made the format unplayable for control decks and slower decks not named Sigilyph.

    Great video. Been testing it on limitless tabletop. It's very dependant on what you get turn 1. Some games you'll get a mimikyu in the active, sada which you can't use and no pokemon, so you just lose.
    When it works it feels great, but it feels like the early non consistent first builds of roaring moon

    I just started playing the tcg abit over a week ago and I started playing my version of this deck at about 400ish rating. Currently 1700 with 61% winrate. I have a different list I came up with than the ones in the video but I'm finding it very consistent. While the goal is to mill it really doesn't need to be turbo speed great tusk only. Alot of wins are just counting energy cards and bricking them with mimikyu. You can try to build 4 energy on great tusk on your bench to kill anything that stops mimikyu and you are pretty golden. I also run 4 penny because often times you can be in a situation where you have a great tusk with booster energy and dbl colorless that won't get ohko so you bounce between the 2 and keep milling/stalling

      I've been wondering the same thing, especially since Artazon is in the deck. A lot of Ancient Box decks play UBs. But idk I guess T1 Tusk can attach DTE and then use Explorer to attack T1.

      Not to mention, Tusk is so bulky that most decks will struggle to KO it with a single attack, at least in the first couple of turns. And something like Charizard just straight up can't OHKO it, if has any tool attached.

    Commenting before watching: Not that I like Snorlax, but you gotta convince me, this isn't just boneless (i.e. worse) Snorlax.
    Edit: Boneless Snorlax, but fun

    • @digo00
      @digo00 3 месяца назад +1

      how is this worse than snorlax? and even better, how is this worse than hornless snorlax?

    • @minasflippers8398
      @minasflippers8398 3 месяца назад

      tl;dr Both decks rely on stalling to a degree, Snorlax does it better.
      James basically came to the conclusion that you need to stall your opponent's attacks to win, because otherwise you only get to mill 24 cards, before they take all of their prizes, which is not enough to fulfill the win condition of deckout. Snorlax stalls more reliably, the deckout just takes longer. So Snorlax effectively does the same thing slower, but more reliably.
      e.g. James said, Mill should have a good matchup against Charizard, Snorlax has a 79% win rate against Charizard, effectively unlosable for Snorlax, so what's the point?@@digo00

    • @gabrielcastillo9745
      @gabrielcastillo9745 3 месяца назад +3

      It is not better or worse. It is a different deck. Snorlax is a passive deck, this deck is actually pretty aggressive and wants to move fast (most of the time). Snorlax struggles against Lost Box decks, while this deck destroys them. Both are really good into Charizard, but Snorlax is better against Lugia. And against one another, I would say it's a 50/50, depending on the Tusk player not staring with something like a radiant Greninja or a Pidgeot V.
