I think the main issue is the lack of build up removal. So many naturals co wash so often that they do not remove the build up. This leads to issues. Shampoo and clarify your hair. Deep condition and moisturize your hair.
Yes!!! Clean hair is healthy hair. So is moisturized hair which needs oils. Just cowashing will lead to build up!! Nobody washes their clothes with just fabric softener.
Yes to all of this, i watched a wash day routine where the girl co-washed, then conditioned and the deep conditioned her hair. So extra lmao. She stated she didnt use any shampoo in her routine 🥴, i was thinking of how dry and dirty her hair would end up smh.
I'm about to go back to silicone for my boys' hair. I used it when they were little & had no issues. Went the no silicone, no this, no that route and had nothing but dry problems since. Tired of spending all that money trying to stop their hair from looking so thirsty. And I feel ya on the videos. Always make me want to buy another $15 product to try like it's a miracle cure. Too much!
@@loanicastillo3327 Yeah, it's crazy. My kids have different textures which means different products for each. The dryness by far is the most frustrating part of this whole process followed by lack of curl definition. I want to support black owned but $60 in shampoos & conditioners is too much.

You spoke nothing but facts. Tired of listening to everyone when everybodies hair is different. What I’ve learned from it all is YOU HAVE TO USE WHAT WORKS FOR YOU.
I really don’t think the loc method is the problem, the problem is that people forget that you can get product build up and should use a sulfate shampoo or the Indian clay mask occasionally.
Shouldn’t use clay on ur hair it can be used to dry out acne it’s not a detox. Your hair is LIKE a fabric it’s absorbing that oil, so its essentially dehydrating ur hair, it doesn’t just all come out in one wash day it has lasting effects. (Oil stains)
@@kiyagames5174 I can’t find anything that states clay does anything harmful to your hair. I only added clay as a secondary option for people If you’re going to use clay you should deep condition your hair afterwords to reintroduce the moisture. I wouldn’t personally use it over shampoo, but using it once every three months or even longer is how I do it.
I went years resisting using heavy butters and my hair was always dry and I hate gels because they dry out my hair quickly. I started using butters again and my hair is flourishing. I think it’s about finding a balance of what works for you.
Find out what your hair likes and then check out the ingredients in that product. Find the ingredients that make your hair happy! Some people's hair is protein sensitive, and, other hair needs them to stay moisturized.
Imagine people coming out with their flag to represent the LOC community?! Lol. Hello, i'm going to come out as kinky but I identity as wavy-curly-dry-multiracial non-definitional hair.
I’ve never fallen for being a product junkie. As a child we all had long, healthy shiny hair from just using a great shampoo, conditioner and grease. I’m sticking to it. Consumerism and RUclipsrs have most people thinking they need a million different products to grow healthy hair. Just ask your granny for hair tips.
I have high porosity hair. My hair dries before I can even finish doing one side. This would not work for me. I need to seal in the moisture with a butter or heavier product.
@@adeolareid1536 apparently it takes time to see the improvement, as our hair has been used to the heavy butters etc. Maybe give it a couple of months and with the right products used, you may see improvement. The trick is to try and aim to achieve, rather than try without believing. And if your hair dries, just add more water... do it in the shower! :) Good luck and hope to see you update
@@adeolareid1536 there is no way to “seal in moisture”. Water is going to evaporate regardless. By putting oil on your hair you’re just making it harder for your hair to become hydrated again because the oil creates a barrier between your hair and water.
I really dislike it when people just discourage and “cancel” things that work perfectly on someone else. Nobody has the exact same hair type so products will work differently for everyone. My hair loves leave in conditioner, whenever I skip the leave in and go straight to gel my hair comes out very dry and I have to refresh the next day. You should do what works for your hair. You can’t just cancel something just because you’re not doing it anymore... (btw I’m talking about people in general, not her specifically).
Facts those natural hair products saved my hair if it's not broke don't fix it!!! Been natural all my life my mom would mix egg, olive oil, and mayo in a bowl and apply it to my hair dry finger detangling my hair cause I was tender-headed(put my hair in a target bag). She would rinse it out after 30 minutes then shampoo and condition my hair in big braids rinsing out the conditioner after she detangled my hair with an Orange Wide Shampoo comb. She would then use a deep conditioner from Dudley's or her favorite one Queen Helene's Cholesterol Hair Conditioning Cream. She would use Luster's Pink Hair Lotion and Tropic Isle Living Jamaican Black Castor Oil then blowdry my hair. Lastly, she would braid up my hair with DAX India Hemp Deep Conditioning Moisturizer Grease. That worked to help my hair become thick and dense but didn't do much for the length. My mom and I started to experiment with my hair by pressing my hair, box braids, and color wax in middle school. My hair was breaking by the end of 8th grade so I went to a natural hair salon for the first for a haircut (3 inches). I started using natural hair products all of a sudden my hair started to gain length while staying thick and dense. My mom was technically doing the LCO Method before it was even called that. On wet hair, she would apply Luster's PINK HAIR LOTION, JAMAICAN BLACK CASTOR OIL, blow-dry & style my hair with HAIR GREASE mixed with kids detangler cream/spray...My hair always benefited from THE 7-step wash day PROCESS my hair just changed texture, so the old school products didn't work on my hair anymore. BUT THE PROCESS WAS KEY! I've BEEN DOING THIS NATURAL HAIR LIFE SINCE 1998 and what I can tell you is washday is important to have healthy hair. So I'm just saying you can use old school products and natural hair products BUT THE process I feel is what gives you good results. So I will keep my hair grease, leave-in conditioners, hair creams-lotions, gels, foam, co-washes, and deep conditioners! And I will keep my 7 step wash day process my hair and many others are flourishing because of it!!!
The LOC method works wonderfully for my very porous hair. The method suggested in this video wouldn’t work for me. But I’ve never been a product junkie, and my process is still simple with only 3 steps: shampoo/condition/water, then oil, then cream.
@@quicampbell8415 - Yes, of course it is. I’m making a distinction between high vs low porosity. When I wrote that I have very porous hair, it was simply another way of saying high-porosity hair. Thought that was apparent.
Well the first decade of the natural hair movement steadily turned into doing the absolute MOST when it comes to hair care. All these diys, rice water, tea rinses, chebe, hair growth oils, henna, onion juice, carrot juice etc. and the unnecessary layering of products, and the unnecessary steps, and being afraid of using shampoo and ingredients that you cant pronounce. Looking back it was just an experimental mess. It was ignorance...the blind leading the blind. Wash days became so complicated that last year a lot of youtubers were coming out on RUclips saying they're tired of their natural hair. Of course we were tired of our natural hair. We were doing too much! And we didn't even know why we were doing what we were doing sometimes. The second phase of the natural hair movement is about stripping it back to the basics: Cleanse, Condition and Style (CCS). It's is about being clued up about the science of natural hair and the products we choose to use, and how they actually work; The second phase also screams minimalism instead of product junkie-ism, it's about being intentional in what we choose to do/put on our hair instead of endless experimenting with trial and error for years upon years. It's about making "wash day" *wash hour* and having more time to do things you actually wanna do. Overall the second phase of the NHM is about making our hair easy! And who doesn't want easy hair? I am SO GLAD that I don't have to prepoo my hair ever again! I'm SO GLAD that my hair is no longer greasy and I can actually rest my head on the sofa, on the wall, on my pillow without leaving some oily residue behind. I'm so glad I don't have to use clay anymore and have to clean up my whole bathroom afterwards. I'm so glad that I don't have to watch another ayurvedic hair care video and feel bad for being too busy mix up my own concoctions for the sake of faster hair growth (because ain't nobody got time for that) and the MESS, THE STAINS, THE SMELLS OMG!!!! and don't get me started on the allergic reactions 🤨. I'm so glad don't have to oil my scalp (I stopped doing that years ago because massaging your scalp is boring af). And I'm glad that I don't have to deep condition *every time* I wash my hair, and that a rinse out conditioner will suffice. I am a mum now and this cleanse condition and style routine is just what I needed. I was literally saying to myself a few months ago I don't want wanna spend hours at a time on my hair anymore and here we are... it now takes me an hour and twenty minutes to wash condition and style my hair (instead of three hours) and I'm so happy lol ☺️
Never been a product junky. All I do is wash my hair WHEN I WANT TO, conditioner & a natural oil. I have little to no breakage (always checking) and minimal shedding 😅. But I do like to watch product reviews and see how other people do their hair.
I've been slimming down my hair routine as well. Long ago, I finally let go of butters and oils on my hair. RUclips said they were good for my hair. My hair sent me SEVERAL angry messages that the butters and oils were NOT her jam. After I finally let that go, I got a good wash n go routine down. Now I am trying this whole shampoo, conditioner and natural gel routine... my hair is sending much nicer messages these days. She is giving, my arms aren't dead and we are both VERY happy. Keep it simple! I have low porosity hair, so natural gels with humectants in them are BOMB for my hair. Bottom line, so what is SIMPLE and effective for your hair. I think product junkie-ism in the black hair care community is out... I hope :)
I truly wish my hair subscribed to this concept My hair loves oil... makes it so soft and manageable plus has grown so much especially during lock down
These people are so funny... They act like you can’t SEEE your results. Now Shea butter, however, will suffocate your hair. Then Jamaican Castor I wise in thin layers with lots of water in my dry section. Butters block absorption.
It’s ingrained in us from young that our hair is difficult. And with that it requires an overly involved wash routine and care process. The freedom i felt when i learned we were doing it all wrong ....
My hair is not difficult, because I use avocado oil and it's easy. "We" were not doing it wrong. You certainly were. I have no problem doing my hair and keep it moisturized.
I was never loyal to the loc method, but I think the community has pushed back because the delivery of a couple stylists was so harsh. If they have presented the information like "Hey, here's an alternative that has workes for many of our clients. It's simpler and better for many people." it probably would have been received differently. However, they came in like gangbusters calling people stupid and accusing the RUclipsrs of destroying people's hair. Also, people don't like a one-size-fits-all. Some people are swearing that the oils, butters, and creams are working for them. I've always styled with gel personally, but I like to use a leave-in or something underneath it so that the gel does not dry my hair out. I tried using gel with nothing underneath it and I didn't like the results. I am open to doing the 30-day detox, though.
Plastic containing gels are drying, maybe a humectant based water soluble gel would be more beneficial to ur hair. Their words are often wrongfully misinterpreted ppl can still receive and absorb information if it’s fact based and not fiction/opinion no matter the tone.
@@kiyagames5174 Yes, I recently tried Kinky-Curly Curling Custard instead of gel on a wash and go, after 16 years of maintaining natural hair, and I really like it! I put the Knot Today leave-in under it, though.
Tammykins Inspirational I can’t see me not using a leave in conditioner with my gel. I haven’t tried any of those expensive gels because even though they’re more moisturizing they are too thin. I like eco styler gel because it’s so thick and it lays my hair. No hair gel that comes in a pump bottle is gonna lay my hair down .
EVERYTHING you said Sis! 🎯 💯 But, I'm not even doing the 30-day detox. I'm not fixing what isn't broken. My hair is thriving on a wash day formula that took me years of experimenting to achieve.
@Tammykins Inspirational yea I know what you mean about the delivery of the info by the professionals with the LOC/LCO methods. I never was loyal to those methods either, and I’m a long term natural like you, almost 18 years. But going back to the professionals and their denunciation of the butters and creams and oils- I definitely think something needed to be said about the overuse of these combined with the undershampooing especially- not good at all. I think in time as more naturals learn to adapt the principles of minimal products and keeping hair cleansed to their own unique hair needs, the original delivery of the message will lose significance and the benefits and rewards will steal the show and be on full display. What has been working for me personally for more than 2 years now is using no products shampoos, cowashes, conditioners, concoctions at all- just washing very regularly with filtered water, styling with distilled water and making sure to stritch and massage my scalp when washing. I am not having scalp issues, hair loss, bad smells, breakage, dryness, or any problems. My hair has been thriving. It has grown from bra strap length to almost tailbone length since I stopped using products just over 2 years ago now. Split ends rarely happen. I’ve had the easiest time retaining manageability, moisture, and length since foregoing all products than I’ve had in my entire natural hair journey- which is going on 2 decades now. My hair behaves very well, and looks very good. People ask me all the time what products or hair I used and they don’t believe me when I tell them no hair and no products. All of this being said, I don’t plan on using shampoo once per week, or conditioner, gels, mousse, etc. b/c the professionals have advised/recommended it. I naturally have doll-textured type 4 hair that really doesn’t like products (which is why I was never loyal to LOC/LCO). My hair has kinky, curly, but smooth, thick strands and is very dense. I haven’t seen anyone on RUclips with hair as dense and coarse as mine, even though some come close.
I’ve been simplifying my hair regimen lately and I find that I’ve gotten better results that way. When I big chopped-I mainly followed the advice of RUclipsrs (LCO, deep condition every week with heat, etc) and I followed that blindly. I became a product junkie and didn’t even realize how majority of the products performed because I never used them alone-I would pair products sporadically. So I decided to start off simple-do the absolute least and then add on to my regimen as needed and I found I don’t need to do as much or use as many products as I previously thought. Your hair looks great!!
@@toridelight2761 No. I’m testing out just using a rinse out deep conditioner and then maybe deep conditioning bi-weekly. I’m going to start there and amend if necessary. I only used a rinse out last wash day and my hair has been pretty well moisturized.
Same here. It’s been 5 years of doing the most with my hair and still not getting good results. I made it all the way simple and my hair is looking it. I was weighing down my hair with all those products and never really seeing the benefits of the 100s of dollars i spent on products

Now that i use a light leave in and gel only my hair last 7 plus days with minimal frizz and a lot of definition. It’s funny once people start cleansing their hair, that their lives have changed. These videos crack me up. Because no one is paying attention to the ingredients, and understanding what purpose they serve. My leave ins, creams, butters, and pretreatments and staying. Also, this kinky hair, is never doing a wash n go.
I agree....sometimes it seems like one trend after another.....when it's the ingredients are the MOST important! That's how we can be learning what our own hair needs to be healthy.
These companies have everything, all kinds of ingredients in your products making it impossible to see if your hair doesnt like it for 6months to a year. That's irritating
It's nice to see a bigger influencer embrace this! It's worked wonders for my hair and my wash day went from 1/2 a day to less than an hour. I was a new natural and only had extensive wash day because of YT and here it wasn't necessary! We have to reprogram our thinking.
One thing that gets me about The Gospel of No Raw Oils Or Butters According to Stylists is this notion that stylists, the same people whose main concern has historically been a certain aesthetic result, not hair health - who relaxed, pressed, hot combed our hair to within an inch of its life (which is fine if you choose it, but not necessarily healthy!) - are suddenly these all-knowing, benign hair doctors! If anything, I've noticed that stylists object to the RUclips-fueled DIY approach to textured hair because the newfound independence is costing them some of their clientele, not just or not mainly because of hair health. Suddenly taking aim at things like deep conditioners... which many are perfectly happy to charge you to get in the salon, under a steamer or hooded dryer, just like we've learned to do on our own, even before Covid. I mean. Do people who peddle products stand to gain from certain complicated, product-heavy approaches? Sure, but so do stylists, from other approaches - they participate in the capitalist economy too!
idk what stylist you’re going to but I went to my first professional this year after years of youtube diys and she gave me a full course in my specific hair health, and my hair has never been healthier. Never tried to sell me anything but told me exactly where I could get the products she used.
following a simple hair care routine actually saves you money because: 1. it’s no longer trial and error so you’re not having to buy $50 worth of products each month only for you not to be happy with the results and go buy more 2. these stylists are encouraging simple hair care which means you should really be using 3-4 products each wash day including shampoo and conditioner 3. using the products stylists recommends are of great quality and are extremely concentrated so you can use less product = save money 4. hair growth oils and deep conditioners are the most expensive products with natural hair lines so they’re actually profiting off of black womens insecurities . so everyone is a capitalist here 5. the stylists only want you to come in for an initial detox and then you return like every 3-4 months for a maintenance appointment (detox + trim ends) 6. and the stylists you mention have plenty of business . if anything they’re extremely booked up and are trying to train more stylists in more areas so all black women have access to this kind of hair care . 7. they actually teach you how to CARE for your hair . you’re paying for education for specifically your hair and they’re able to answer your hair questions . i’m not trying to offend anyone or anything . it’s just the hair stylists aren’t all bad . they’re genuinely trying to help . i don’t know why people get so offended . there are so many women who perceive natural hair to be so difficult . and that they could never wear their natural hair . going to a hairstylist and following iamblackgirlcurls on instagram has helped me to love my own hair and be my hair goals . but if you’re content with what you’re doing then that’s okay . much love to anyone on their hair journey ❤️
@@rachelferdinand1409 I didn't say every one, but I've had my whole head damn near taken out by an experienced stylist and salon owner and family friend who, two or three months after her brilliant Dominican employee relaxed my virgin hair at age 14, as gently as possible, asked me, a CHILD, whether I wanted a touch up or the whole head. I, knowing nothing and thinking more was better, said the whole head...and disaster ensued. I'm not dismissing, much less "cancelling" all stylists as some sort of reaction to this trend; I'm making a statement about how there are stylists whose primary consideration has been results over health, and how the emergence of largely RUclips-based DIY hair care has probably forced many stylists to focus more on health, much as the wellness kick has forced many eateries and food manufacturers to. I do follow one stylist on here and find him extremely credible in terms of hair health, so I don't doubt that there are stylists like him (GlamFam Hair and Beauty), and I'm genuinely glad that you have such a gem of a stylist! Would that they were all that way!
I too was very skeptical about this new routine. I was a faithful loc girl..I've been natural for 7years and still would struggle with proper long lasting moisture retention..I've been doing this new routine for a month down and giirl I'm out of the matrix.loololol.. I only shampoo and condition and style with uncle funkys curly magic and the doux texture foam on top and let me tell you!!! The shine, definition and MOISTURE/HYDRATION rentention is mind blowing..my hair stays moisturized for a good 6days I do not have to readd products or water I just slip my bonnet off..fluff and go..wash day is now wash hour ok...7 years! Natural and I've finally found a method that is truly effective! For my mini twist protective style I use quemet biologics burdock root cream ONLY..no leave in or oils..the key is to find a quality twisting cream that has WATER listed has the 1st ingredient and zero oils or butters within the first 5 of the ingredient list.. you want your twisting cream to have very little oil or butter or none...the only oil in the QB burdock root cream is olive oil and I believe it's number 7 On the ingredient list .. if you struggle with moisture and hydration do your research and give this method a try..you really have nothing to lose.
I LOVE THESE PRODUCTS TOO! They really do such a great job but for the summer I want to try flax seed gel and see how it works. It’s supposed to be very nourishing and I heard that it has some hold.
Appreciate the information, but nope. I was in a rush to get out the house the other day and used this method (only because my real wash day was the next day) my hair dried into a crunchy ball ! 😏
@@apersom7437 water based gels always made my hair SUPER crunchy. Oil based gels like eco styler leave it defined and soft with a good hold. Different products work for different ppl.
I tried the LCO method for 6 months and my hair was extremely dehydrated. The LOC method works the best for me personally and hasn't failed me once. Oil is a sealant. I have extremely porous hair so sealing in the only true moisturizer, water, is what works best for me.
@@thehamsterarmy2380 it’s not even a sealant, just a lubricant. Once the water leaves the hair no more can get in bc you have oil there. They separate and don’t mix
Lol I was never doing that much💀 all I do is shampoo, deep condition, leave in and grease or oil depending on which one I have and that’s for my high porosity 4c hair ( oh and I usually finger detangle but always have a comb on hand if I need it) ...however I like seeing what works for different people 🤎
I’ve been following this routine since January. It’s been great! Such a time saver and my hair has been loving it. I do twist outs.... for twist outs and braid outs it’s recommended to use a wrap foam. The Doux Mousse Def is what most of the stylists recommended. Love your results!
You use the mousse for twist outs and braid outs . For wash and go’s, you are required to use 2 gels , an humectant and anti humectant gel which are classed as base and topper gels . For example , uncle funkys curly magic as a base gel ( humectant gel ) paired with a topper gel such as the innersense i create hold gel ( anti humectant gel ) . Also remember that you need lots of water for the wash n go process to activate and spread the product and of course with the right technique of racking and smoothening. For twist or braids that you leave in , you can use the innersense quiet calm curl control as a styler . For any of these processes, it would still be cleanse , condition and style
I get not using LOC method but what does ditching butter have to do with simplifying my routine. Gel doesn’t work for me so I would spray my hair then add butter.
How is oil going to prevent your hair from dryness? With or without oil hair is going to be dry after a certain time and it’s a sign for washing day i think oil is a lubricant and gives some nutrients to the hair…
The thing is that oils don’t prevent dryness, they just leave a shine. They also block any moisture you try to put on your hair until you use a detergent (aka shampoo) to remove that oil. Just because our hair feels smooth and silky doesn’t mean it’s clean. Hair that appears to be dry isn’t always dirty.
It's funny because in the very beginning of the natural hair movement, this is all people were doing. Washing shampooing and a custard / leave-in. And then people realize that the moisture for their hair wasn't properly locking in so they added oils and butters. And now history is repeating itself all over again with people denouncing the oils and butters and wanting to go back to the original. Which means that more than likely people are going to go back to oils and butters 🤦🏾♀️ Lord make up y'all minds
The main problem is people don’t understand that their porosity matters. If you’re low porosity, heavy oils and butters will not work properly. High porosity hair works better for that. People need to find out their actually hair type first. It doesn’t matter if your 4A,B,C whatever. The porosity is most important.
OK so I did my hair like this for a while a few years ago. Using just shampoo, conditioner and quality gel (Uncle Funky’s daughter). And over time I noticed that my scalp was always dry and itchy. And I also noticed that this method worked best for me in the summer time, definitely not winter. So idk... I wanna try it again but I’m afraid lol
Do what works for you. I can’t NOT use an oil on my scalp cause it does get dry and itchy if I don’t. I HAVE to use an oil mix (tea tree, JBCO, coconut oil etc.)
@@ashaburrell2820 see I have never seen anyone use the the loc method and say the oil should go on the scalp. I recommend just the ends no scalp at all.
My curls have been flourishing since i stopped doing the most. I just shampoo, deep condition and style. I do still use a leave in but i may try to phase it out soon. My wash days are so easy now. My hair is defined, hydrated and soft af. I don’t have nearly as much shedding and tangling. My wash and go is truly a wash and go now. I can do my hair in under an hour minus drying time. I also started following the directions on my deep conditioner instead of letting it sit for hours. I found the products I love and threw everything else out.
me too! but i tweaked this. made an infused really light weight leave in that has plant gels in it and seal my ends with flaxseed gel. my hair is happyyyyyyy. also made a tea refresher spray for when i need to remoisturize. Can't say I've completely cut out butters and oils but i have changed the way i use them
@@ileanasantamaria2364 sure! The leave in is aloe vera gel, okra gel, fenugreek, flaxseed and marshmallow root with some mango butter and argan oil (infused with amla and neem) to help it firm up a little bit. Ull need an emulsifier for this to combine well and a preservative to keep it The refresher spray is aloe vera juice as the base with fenugreek, amla, and henna. But if moisture is ur focus then go heavier on the fenugreek. If u use the type of aloe vera juice that doesn't need to be refrigerated then u should be fine with the shelf life but could use a little preservative just in case
I have tried this method with the Doux's Big Poppa gel. It works but I need a leave in for slip. I never liked the LOC method, I was like that is too much work. However, I need a leave in. I either use a cream, butter or gel after my leave in. I have four steps on wash day, and I am good. I am glad that you have found this method helpful though. 😘If it works, it works.
I think my Shea Butter/Olive oil routine is honestly more of a Self Relaxation/Calming ritual for me lol but you are definitely right that all of that is not needed. 🌷
It depends on the gel! I can't use ECO styler gel because it makes my hair dry like a wasteland and made my scalp itch. My hair loves Camille Rose Curl Maker because it has Marshmallow Root in it. I also love the Wetline Xtreme gel because it has Aloe Vera in it. I have Low Porosity hair and I won't stop using my leave ins because a stylist says. I know what works for my hair. I use the LCO method and that works for me.
I simplified my routine to and my curls LOVE it! I wash it like normal, add in my leave in, and I use a kinky curly curling custard OR mielle pomegranate custard. I no longer have a a full day dedicated to wash my hair. Doing my hairs takes 1 hour tops and it stays moisturized for longer periods of time and I can manage it better.
So I’m supposed to put hair gel in my hair EVERY TIME I wash it? Hard pass. Loc is not canceled. It works for me and that’s what I’m sticking to. Period
I've never been a fan of gel. Tried it before and, well.... it didn't work out 😔 But I did use twist butter instead for my three products and my hair thrives with this routine, once every two or three weeks 😌
I agree with this. When I first went natural (2003), these brands didn’t even exist so all we had was the black gel lol. And honestly I saw the most growth during that period, just washing/conditioning/pulling it back with the gel - from big chop to below shoulder in a year and a half. And I was using Johnson’s baby shampoo and cheap cheap conditioner then… It wasn’t until down the line when being natural became a trend and the product lines caught up that I basically started trying to do too much lol - the 7+ steps like you mentioned, with pre poos and masks and LOC/LCO method. I still saw growth but between that and trying protective styles (where I just did wash and go’s and left it alone before), I also started to see a lil more breakage from extra manipulation - so growth plateau - as well as having to wash my hair a lot more from product buildup. Things I do not have time for 😂 Definitely the best routine for me (low porosity 4a/4b) was keeping it simple with the 3 basic steps/products and letting it be
Lol I just use what works for me. I’ve been natural for years and I’m just NOW figuring out how to keep it moisturized. I had to big chop again. I have high porosity hair, so LCO works for me. I switch between sulfate shampoo and non sulfate shampoo, because I need to cleanse really good every once in a while. Also grease really helps me with sealing too. It makes my hair really soft, but I definitely use a sulfate shampoo after using that. When I was clueless about being natural, I would just wash condition and gel, but my hair was CRISPY DRY 😂
I think the natural hair community has to realize that we can't all be on the same routine. We all have vastly different hair. If you are high porosity and considering this method just becareful and monitor your hair. In addition to conditioning and smoothing your hair cuticle, oils (specifically penetrating oils like coconut) stop your hair from absorbing too much water which is damaging. I'm not saying you shouldn't consider this method. I'm saying be mindful of your specific hair health. What works for one person is damaging for another and vice versa.
I am so happy to hear from a major influencer on this topic. I have been using the three step/product process and doing WNG's and this coming wash day will mark my fourth week. I love it, even though mastering a WNG has proven to be a learning process. But I am enjoying this new journey... Now, what to do with the beauty supply store in my house! 😜
LOL! I may give my unopened products and save the opened ones for when I wear a ponytail, bun, or puff. Maybe use any raw oils & butters on your skin, instead?
Step into the light girl. I got into it because my wash day was just too long. Now shampoo, condition, detangle and styling for a wash and go is all within an hour.
Heeeeey here early. I’m with the three products . I believe you are right. Thank you for the info. But I’m still going to use the products I have now but won’t purchase as much like I use to anymore.
Water, ayurvedic olive/coconut oil, and shea butter on my ends, in that order, has always been the best for my hair. I'm an inch shy of waist length now after a year of DIY ayurvedic conditioners, oils, and butters. Every time I tried to ditch LOC/LCO before, my hair would start to lock up so fast. Learning to make all of my own hair products (batch-made and stored them in the freezer) was the key for me. Curly Proverbz's videos changed my life and she uses hella oil and butter.
It's cool, you found your own routine, but LOC method is not cancelled lmao. Some people do the most, but I love leave-ins and light oils. I use a quality gel from the Mane choice but it's not what my hair likes when I use it alone.
My routine consists of shampoo, conditioner, and any water based moisturizer and a braid down. I see other naturals complain about wash days, which shouldn’t be full days btw, and I get tired for them. RUclips is one of the reasons why so many naturals have burnouts and decide to relax or chop their hair off, do what works for ur hair.
I have been natural for 20 yrs and I have "type 4" hair. I am "pushing back" simply because I have tried gels and mousses (this method is not new) and it did not work on my hair. I tried different brands and application techniques. It just didn't work. My hair would get extremely dry and rough feeling. I think there maybe people that this works for but for some of us it's not going to. That is ok. I suggest that when trying new products and/or techniques to use a hair journal. It doesn't have to be fancy or extensive. You just want to keep track of what is going on with your hair for a certain time period when trying new products or techniques. At the end of the time period read what you wrote and make an evaluation. If the no oils no butters only gel method works for you great. If not move on.
Inspirational! I've spent so much money, time, STRESS trying to get the "right" hair routine. Once I tried to "simplify" down to 4 products (shampoo, conditioner, leave-in, and a gel -- although it was, and still is, my beloved EcoStyler), and it looked pretty good! Then, guess what? In a couple of days I was back online watching videos and then out buying more "miracle" hair products, with my hair looking no better after I tried them. I think I'm finally ready now. Thanks for your video.
What many in the community are pushing back against is not the method or approach per se but the blanket pronouncement and the cancellation of methods that still work for many people, not to mention the insistence that this is The One True Way. Also, everything isn't about saving time - many people who devote hours to their wash days, apart from liking the results, enjoy getting to pamper themselves and see it as self-care, quite apart from whether or not oils, butters, leave-ins etc are the best way to go. Nor is the pushback about feelings or getting dragged, and to say so is dismissive and patronizing. Stylists are not the only professionals with informed views; trichologists and cosmetic chemists, who are professionally trained in the science of hair and hair products, don't all with one voice endorse what this group of stylists is advocating. Authoritative categorical decrees on the part of those stylists, some of whom have proclaimed that they're here to "take the stupid out of hair care", directly contradict the more reasonable, if less clickbait-y, "try it and do what works for you" approach.
@@smith283 I feel like I've been posting this same comment in some form everywhere this discussion pops up! Another thing that gets me about the The Gospel of No Raw Oils Or Butters According to Stylists is this notion that stylists, the same people whose main concern has historically been a certain aesthetic result, not hair health - who relaxed, pressed, hot combed our hair to within an inch of its life (which is fine if you choose it, but not necessarily healthy!) - are suddenly these all-knowing, benign hair doctors!
Hair regimen as a minimalist: Shampoo Light Oil (penetrating & acts as conditioner [deep/leave in]) i.e. avocado Heavy Oil (sealeant) i.e. castor Flaxseed gel (optional) rarely
Giving me soul train😆😆, I always thought less is best! My wash day is every 2 weeks, shampoo, DC & detangle, a light leave in and CRAlmond Jai twisting butter. Maybe twice in those 2 weeks I will refresh with water and CR curl love milk to put back the moisture. I do retwist my hair with water during the week, my signature style is a twist out and I like the stretch and since I live in Florida I like to start the day with a fresh twist. On weekends, no twisting and a satin bonnet unless it’s time to wash. This works for me and my hair thanks me.
Great video and I'm right there with you, I'm in love with the new way of doing my hair. Also i never liked leave in conditioners nor butters. It's kind of sad how many ppl are stuck in the old ways refusing to give the 3 product method a chance. The water drenching b4 i add my base and topper gel has been life changing and my w&h last for 5 to 6 days, no touch up needed
I’ve definitely simplified my routine. Clarify every 4 to 6 weeks. Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner every week. (Using high quality products makes it easier to detangle) Deep condition once a month (I have colored hair) Gel for wash and gos and light leave in and wrap foam/mousse for twist outs/braid outs. Sit under a hooded dryer then diffuse for volume! I’m surprised that I haven’t picked up an oil or cream for the past two months 😅
I mean when I was young I’ve always had really long natural hair, and after thinking about it, my moms used a variation of the loc method but only with water and grease. Everybody had that brush and water cup and that blue magic.
Damn!! I've been so busy i missed when you uploaded. I just can't, my Shea butter is a core value of mine (my life) I moisturize with aloe and seal with Shea. 😂😂😂 Girl this video was funny with you running in them glasses.
I hate natural hair trends so much because one year later we gon see “3 step routine destroyed my hair” trend. Lmfao from coconut oil to rice water to chebe to a million more rules. Bruh it’s tiring
@@jonellsequiraxo it is most def a trend. Something all natural RUclipsrs are hoping on for views but do you sis. Just waiting for the next trend lmfao
I think it is important to know what works for your hair and use a routine that works best for you. Personally, I have been using the LOC method for years. I tried various methods as well. However, I like the LOC method.
If water is moisture than why do you use lotion on our bodies. I feel like this wouldnt work for 4c hair girls who don’t have curls like you do. Gel doesn’t do anything for us
I think one part that's lost is that creams and gels are interchangeable. I hate gels past the TWA stage. Also my curls definitely last longer and are even more defined with an oil to top it all off. Idk about heavy, but I love my oil blend from NaturAll. And I actually stopped using oil for a while out of laziness bc it was the last step, so I really do know the difference. But I use 5 products: Wash, Condition, LCO. The reg conditioner is just for added slip bc water is definitely not enough for detangling. Then, for me LCO feels like all one step bc I'm just raking the same three products through my hair for even distribution. It takes maybe 5 mins bc my hair is already detangled. I also haven't styled my hair in years. Ain't nobody (me) got time for braid outs and twist outs. I don't put heat in my hair either, so once the oil's in, I just get dressed and go about my day. Bottom line: Everyone is different. This works for me.🤷🏾♀️
All those heavy oils were breaking out my face. I have oily skin btw. When the pandemic started I kinda “neglected” my hair to take care of my face & I still get tiny bumps but not the big painful looking ones like I did before. It’s interesting to see how altering changes on one part of you body affects another.
When I’d wear my hair down (wash n go/twist out) it would feel like my face is in a fish bowl & I had never payed attention to it. 😅Not against oils indefinitely tho. But it’s something to think about
I love how your hair looks in shower. Every other video I’ve watched their hair looks all defined in the shower, but I noticed mine just looks puffy 🤷🏽♀️ happy to see somebody similar 💛
i think i only follow like one other hair person here, but you’ve been inspiration all the way around. i’ve been doing this method for about two months now and absolutely love it. wishing you well always 🤎
Bri'Anna Tolliver hey! i use a curl stimulator gel first and i prefer mousse for the hold on a twist or braid out after, or topper gel just for a straight wash and go, but i think it’s just a matter of which one your hair likes better. hope that helps
@@paigebey7360 thank you so much!! It does help! I’m trying to figure out how to use all these products and stuff and what they actually are! This helped
You seem to be happy and content with your hair texture. I noticed sistas who don't accept their hair texture tend to use so many hair products to get their hair to look a different hair texture. And I think this is where the issue lies on. If us women accept our hair texture we would be fighting less with our hair meaning less time styling.
This ‼️ I've seen people in the comment section mentionning Ufd gel, I used it way before this trend, and I used it alone. This thing is sticky and left white residues all over my hair. I tried it, until the bottle was empty and each time I got white residues and sticky hair that attracts dust. Never again.
Personally I use this method and it works great for my hair. It has never looked better and it’s more manageable. I will say I also use a good curly/ moisturizing mouse to really define my curls and keep the moisture 🥰
I was skeptical at first but it makes so much sense. Water = hydration, oil and water don’t mix. The solution to dry hair was in front of our faces the whole time 😭😭
It does not have to "mix" it creates a barriere to avoid a quick evaporation. This is the same reason people use cream or lotion on their legs after showering. It's not supposed to "mix" it's supposed to keep the water inside the epidermis.
@@LoXena I know but like you said, water is going to evaporate regardless and having that barrier just makes it harder to rehydrate your hair when it’s time to wash it again. You can’t trap water in but you can block it out with oil, which will give you dry hair.
@@jasminet.4255 That’s why you wash your hair with a shampoo. And shampoos contain cleansing surfactants that remove the oils and butter from your hair. So I’m not sure what you mean when you say that oils and butters make it harder to rehydrate your hair when it’s time to wash your hair.
@@jasminet.4255 And we know that water is going to evaporate regardless but oils and butters delay the evaporation. And the time between washdays for most people is relatively short that all this doesn’t even matter. And oils and butters don’t completely block out moisture. Otherwise water will glide right off your hair when you try to remoisturize. Which isn’t the reality.
Sis...I feel you! I have a super busy schedule and my wash day was taking me hours. I started doing the same thing except I will put my leave-in as well on soaking wet hair and it's help keeps my high porosity hair moisturized. Do what works for you. Thanks for sharing
I’ve only been doing this for a short while and I’m impressed tbh. I never found a leave in that i worked and i very rarely used oils. And I always love saturating my hair. It is working for me. And that kcc is life!!!! Yessss!!
LOC method can indeed keep your hair moisturized for weeks at a time. However, it only works if your hair is in cornrows, braids, or twists. If you're doing Wash-N-Gos...use leave in and a moisturizing setting product.
LOC & LCO works for high porosity. LCO is better for low porosity. Now some ppl do LC or LO or LG(grease). Gel dries my hair out after about 3 days, even if my hair is dripping wet when I put the gel on. Gel also makes my hair sticky and when I go walking and sweat the gel gets reactivated 😫
I feel like this applies to naturals that don’t do a lot of styling. It will definitely have your curls popping but I love my twists, braids and blow out styles. Alladat! I need my LCO! I have done this method before and I felt like I could only do wash n gos
As a male, who decided to grew out his hair during the pandemic, I appreciate the tips!! A hairdresser told me that I am Low porosity and i have a multi textured hair (4a in the back, 4B on the sides and 4C in the crown and front). I had no clue what that ment. My hair has grown 7 inches in a year (idk if that's good or not) by applying a wild growth oil and peppermint mixture and massaging my scalp EMPHASIS ON MASSAGING!! Great for stimulating growth, show that scalp some love lol. washing my hair with a African black soap and oil mixture (I use the RUclipsr Natural85 method) every week. Leaves my hair not feeling stripped! and I don't see no dandruff! To detangle, I use my fingers and/or a tangle teaser on drench hair using the Camille Rose curl love moisturizer milk. To prepare to wear it in a fro. I simply damp it. Fun fact when I style while damp, using either mielle rice water hair milk or mixed chick's styling cream and wild growth (white or yellow bottle) to seal it. Using these products keeps my hair moisturized for either 2 or 3 days! depends on the state of my hair and most important bonnet gang 🗣 lol or a silk or satin pillow case. Happy growing everyone!!

I think the main issue is the lack of build up removal. So many naturals co wash so often that they do not remove the build up. This leads to issues. Shampoo and clarify your hair. Deep condition and moisturize your hair.
Yes Yes
Yes!!! Clean hair is healthy hair. So is moisturized hair which needs oils. Just cowashing will lead to build up!! Nobody washes their clothes with just fabric softener.
Also not understanding porosity.
Yes to all of this, i watched a wash day routine where the girl co-washed, then conditioned and the deep conditioned her hair. So extra lmao. She stated she didnt use any shampoo in her routine 🥴, i was thinking of how dry and dirty her hair would end up smh.
Well said. I agree. Shampooing the hair is important to clean the hair. I actually have been using the LOC for years.
Honestly this is why I stoped watching natural hair hair routines and just experimenting what works for my hair . I even use silicones

This the one!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
100%! That is the true problem

Exactly, I’m glad people are fine with just gel, foam or custard, but that doesn’t work for everyone.
ABSOLUTELY
Yesss
I went years resisting using heavy butters and my hair was always dry and I hate gels because they dry out my hair quickly. I started using butters again and my hair is flourishing. I think it’s about finding a balance of what works for you.
Gel is not for everybody. I personally use mousse and it works so much better for me.
You said it perfectly, it’s what works for you.
@@ErinGrime yeah. That’s what I said. Don’t need an echo.
I scrapped all them hair products and went back to hair grease. This is the best my hair has ever looked.

I’ve never fallen for being a product junkie. As a child we all had long, healthy shiny hair from just using a great shampoo, conditioner and grease. I’m sticking to it. My hair would be dry in 2 seconds. But I'm happy for you sis.
Have you even tried it? You don’t know unless you try
@@jasminet.4255 I have tried it and my hair is dry

Same here. I have a simple process with a couple of added products. Having a consistent routine is important.
All hair is porous.
@@quicampbell8415 - Yes, of course it is. I’m making a distinction between high vs low porosity. When I wrote that I have very porous hair, it was simply another way of saying high-porosity hair. Thought that was apparent.
@AnovaLisa Dragonfly Exactly.
I feel like we are entering the second phase of the natural hair movement and I'm so here for it!!!!
Please explain. Im interested😊
The phase is do what works for you. Because now we don't jump in any bandwagon, just because someone told us to do something on RUclips.

@@Kay-gr8xm Thank you boo!
i thought the same thing...lol
I hope :)
I truly wish my hair subscribed to this concept
My hair loves oil... makes it so soft and manageable plus has grown so much especially during lock down
I feel like nothing is completely wrong, different hair loves different things. And that's okay.
The freedom i felt when i learned we were doing it all wrong ....
right my hair aint difficult! i've been making it difficult lol
Many of us are fine doing it the way we've been doing it, so it's not "all wrong" to us 🤷🏾♀️
@@ileanasantamaria2364 that's true, I guess this is more for ppl who have tried those methods and haven't found success. This video is for them
My hair is not difficult, because I use avocado oil and it's easy. "We" were not doing it wrong. You certainly were. I have no problem doing my hair and keep it moisturized.
Exactlyyyy. The FREEDOM. I feel you.
But, I'm not even doing the 30-day detox.
Do you still deep condition weekly?
@@toridelight2761 No. I’m testing out just using a rinse out deep conditioner and then maybe deep conditioning bi-weekly. I’m going to start there and amend if necessary. I only used a rinse out last wash day and my hair has been pretty well moisturized.
Same here. It’s been 5 years of doing the most with my hair and still not getting good results. I made it all the way simple and my hair is looking it. I was weighing down my hair with all those products and never really seeing the benefits of the 100s of dollars i spent on products

And, I am searching for a way to accomplish the ultimate WNG, with minimal definition. I prefer volume closer to a defined curly afro.
This right here..... you are absolutely correct
I was thinking along the same lines!
idk what stylist you’re going to but I went to my first professional this year after years of youtube diys and she gave me a full course in my specific hair health, and my hair has never been healthier. Never tried to sell me anything but told me exactly where I could get the products she used.
following a simple hair care routine actually saves you money because:
1. it’s no longer trial and error so you’re not having to buy $50 worth of products each month only for you not to be happy with the results and go buy more
2. these stylists are encouraging simple hair care which means you should really be using 3-4 products each wash day including shampoo and conditioner
3. using the products stylists recommends are of great quality and are extremely concentrated so you can use less product = save money
4. hair growth oils and deep conditioners are the most expensive products with natural hair lines so they’re actually profiting off of black womens insecurities . so everyone is a capitalist here
5. the stylists only want you to come in for an initial detox and then you return like every 3-4 months for a maintenance appointment (detox + trim ends)
6. and the stylists you mention have plenty of business . if anything they’re extremely booked up and are trying to train more stylists in more areas so all black women have access to this kind of hair care .
7. they actually teach you how to CARE for your hair . you’re paying for education for specifically your hair and they’re able to answer your hair questions .
i’m not trying to offend anyone or anything . it’s just the hair stylists aren’t all bad . they’re genuinely trying to help . i don’t know why people get so offended . there are so many women who perceive natural hair to be so difficult . and that they could never wear their natural hair . going to a hairstylist and following iamblackgirlcurls on instagram has helped me to love my own hair and be my hair goals . but if you’re content with what you’re doing then that’s okay . much love to anyone on their hair journey ❤️

Did you use a water based gel on soaking wet hair? Because using eco styler or any gel like that has plastic and will dry your hair
Oil isn’t a moisturizer love and your hair seals itself, it doesn’t need help (your scalp actually produces its own oil)

I’ve been following this routine since January. It’s been great! Such a time saver and my hair has been loving it. I do twist outs.... for twist outs and braid outs it’s recommended to use a wrap foam. The Doux Mousse Def is what most of the stylists recommended. Love your results!
Interesting... I would like to try to use a mousse.
Yesss the doux mousse and uncle funkys gel
Do you use mousse instead of gel or do you use both?
Right
If I’m not using gel I’m just using blue magic only on my high porosity hair loves it, stays moisturised! Went back old skool!!
What's your curl type? I have high porosity hair too and I'm thinking about trying grease
Not for my hair lol. I need something to prevent dryness, water by itself ain’t gonna do that. But if works for you then it works

@@wandering_addicus9560 oooh would you be willing to share a recipe for that infused leave in and tea refresher???
@@ileanasantamaria2364 sure! The leave in is aloe vera gel, okra gel, fenugreek, flaxseed and marshmallow root with some mango butter and argan oil (infused with amla and neem) to help it firm up a little bit. Ull need an emulsifier for this to combine well and a preservative to keep it
The refresher spray is aloe vera juice as the base with fenugreek, amla, and henna. But if moisture is ur focus then go heavier on the fenugreek. If u use the type of aloe vera juice that doesn't need to be refrigerated then u should be fine with the shelf life but could use a little preservative just in case
You can tweak the method to your liking. I still oil my scalp but just use a gel soufflé to style my hair and then I twirl my ends with a butter!
I have tried this method with the Doux's Big Poppa gel. It works but I need a leave in for slip. I never liked the LOC method, I was like that is too much work. However, I need a leave in.
So I’m supposed to put hair gel in my hair EVERY TIME I wash it? Hard pass. Loc is not canceled. It works for me and that’s what I’m sticking to. Period
I've never been a fan of gel. Tried it before and, well.... it didn't work out 😔
But I did use twist butter instead for my three products and my hair thrives with this routine, once every two or three weeks 😌
I agree with this.
When I first went natural (2003), these brands didn’t even exist so all we had was the black gel lol. And honestly I saw the most growth during that period, just washing/conditioning/pulling it back with the gel - from big chop to below shoulder in a year and a half. And I was using Johnson’s baby shampoo and cheap cheap conditioner then…
It wasn’t until down the line when being natural became a trend and the product lines caught up that I basically started trying to do too much lol - the 7+ steps like you mentioned, with pre poos and masks and LOC/LCO method.
I still saw growth but between that and trying protective styles (where I just did wash and go’s and left it alone before), I also started to see a lil more breakage from extra manipulation - so growth plateau - as well as having to wash my hair a lot more from product buildup.
Things I do not have time for 😂
Definitely the best routine for me (low porosity 4a/4b) was keeping it simple with the 3 basic steps/products and letting it be
Newsflash: the cute little puffs “give SoulTrain” as well 😂 either way, your hair is beautiful! ❤️
Signed, Bonafide 70s babe ✌🏽
This is why I don't watch these videos that much anymore. People follow trends instead of listening to their own self. Use what's best for you.
I have tried the method and love my hair when I do it but girl I still need to use these products I bought

Same here. I use Mane Choice products too for my natural hair routine.
YES!! Ain't one lie detected lol
"everything isn't about saving time " YESSSSSSSS some people like me actually enjoy taking care of our hair
@@smith283 😁❤
@@smith283 I feel like I've been posting this same comment in some form everywhere this discussion pops up! Another thing that gets me about the The Gospel of No Raw Oils Or Butters According to Stylists is this notion that stylists, the same people whose main concern has historically been a certain aesthetic result, not hair health - who relaxed, pressed, hot combed our hair to within an inch of its life (which is fine if you choose it, but not necessarily healthy!) - are suddenly these all-knowing, benign hair doctors!
@@toyinaina6747 you KNOW?!? ❤
Hair regimen as a minimalist:
Shampoo
Light Oil (penetrating & acts as conditioner [deep/leave in]) i.e. avocado
Heavy Oil (sealeant) i.e. castor
Flaxseed gel (optional) rarely
Yeah it just sounded like you were doing too much lmao but loc grew my hair, it's just what works for the health of our individual scalps.
Your hair is going to grow regardless
Giving me soul train😆😆, I always thought less is best! My wash day is every 2 weeks, shampoo, DC & detangle, a light leave in and CRAlmond Jai twisting butter. Maybe twice in those 2 weeks I will refresh with water and CR curl love milk to put back the moisture. I do retwist my hair with water during the week, my signature style is a twist out and I like the stretch and since I live in Florida I like to start the day with a fresh twist. On weekends, no twisting and a satin bonnet unless it’s time to wash. This works for me and my hair thanks me.
Did your hair feel moisturized? No shade but it looked kinda dry.
(Using high quality products makes it easier to detangle) Deep condition once a month (I have colored hair)
Gel for wash and gos and light leave in and wrap foam/mousse for twist outs/braid outs. Sit under a hooded dryer then diffuse for volume!
I’m surprised that I haven’t picked up an oil or cream for the past two months 😅
What products would you use if you wanted to do a bun?
@@stephiecandy put mousse on damp hair and brush into place.. try not to make bun too tight
Sis! I’ma need you to do a makeup routine for this look you got right nah, ya face is POPPIN!!!!
I mean when I was young I’ve always had really long natural hair, and after thinking about it, my moms used a variation of the loc method but only with water and grease. Everybody had that brush and water cup and that blue magic.
Camille Rose is a game changer...period
This is quite literally the opposite of all those trends! This isn’t a trend

I hate putting more than 2 products in my hair after washing and conditioning but I also hate hair gel. I use a leave in and GREASE.
Yup
If water is moisture than why do you use lotion on our bodies. I feel like this wouldnt work for 4c hair girls who don’t have curls like you do. Gel doesn’t do anything for us
🎯🎯🎯
You are keeping it real for real. Keep the hair moisturized is important.
Every other video I’ve watched their hair looks all defined in the shower, but I noticed mine just looks puffy 🤷🏽♀️ happy to see somebody similar 💛
i think i only follow like one other hair person here, but you’ve been inspiration all the way around. i’ve been doing this method for about two months now and absolutely love it. wishing you well always 🤎
also for anyone curious, a good styling foam (the doux) makes the braid and twist outs pop. and the hair still feels moisturized after a week
Do you use mousse instead of gel? Or both?
Bri'Anna Tolliver hey! i use a curl stimulator gel first and i prefer mousse for the hold on a twist or braid out after, or topper gel just for a straight wash and go, but i think it’s just a matter of which one your hair likes better. hope that helps
@@paigebey7360 thank you so much!! It does help! I’m trying to figure out how to use all these products and stuff and what they actually are! This helped
Bri'Anna Tolliver that makes me really happy to hear. and i love this next step in the hair journey for you. i’m honored to help 🧡
You seem to be happy and content with your hair texture. I noticed sistas who don't accept their hair texture tend to use so many hair products to get their hair to look a different hair texture. And I think this is where the issue lies on. If us women accept our hair texture we would be fighting less with our hair meaning less time styling.
Gels dry my hair all the way out. I’m talking bout crunchy and ashy😒. I don’t understand how I can only use gel if butters work good for my hair.
This ‼️ I've seen people in the comment section mentionning Ufd gel, I used it way before this trend, and I used it alone. This thing is sticky and left white residues all over my hair. I tried it, until the bottle was empty and each time I got white residues and sticky hair that attracts dust. Never again.
@@LoXena I’m just sick of trial and error. It’s not worth it to me
Personally I use this method and it works great for my hair.
@@LoXena i understand your reasoning but hair is not skin, they don't behave the same
@@jasminet.4255 That’s why you wash your hair with a shampoo.
So what if you don’t want to use gels? Not everyone is trying to drown their hair in gel to get definition and “popping curls”
The glow sis 🥰
Sis...I feel you! I have a super busy schedule and my wash day was taking me hours. I started doing the same thing except I will put my leave-in as well on soaking wet hair and it's help keeps my high porosity hair moisturized. Do what works for you. Thanks for sharing
Enjoyed the video
My lil 2 hour wash day is therapeutic so imma keep it 😩😩 my hair flourishing doing my hair regimen 😩🙌🏽🙌🏽
❤
Hair gels dry out my hair, l need my heavy butters. Nice that this method works for you.
I feel like this applies to naturals that don’t do a lot of styling. It will definitely have your curls popping but I love my twists, braids and blow out styles. Alladat! I need my LCO! I have done this method before and I felt like I could only do wash n gos
Omg I’m scared to go straight to gel from washing 😩😩 😆😆
