I learned that Cheese Pimiento is also huge in U.S. Southern cuisine! I've only ever known Mom's Filipino version. Recipe: jeanelleats.com/pimiento-spread/
Its gigantic, my grandmother would make it but theres also like Mrs.Grishams which is a standard version.
Its wild that i come here to learn new foods, jeanelle: pimento chesse
Our stomachs truly do draw us closer together.
I’m from Georgia and I grew up on Pimiento cheese. I can vividly remember my grandmother making it for me for lunches.
my mom buys pimento cheese but we use it as a dip/spread for crackers rather than a sandwich!
Calling it cuisine seems too elegant. Sincerely, a fried fish and grits lover.
It's so interesting when different cultures eat the same foods! Thanks for sharing
You can literally buy pimento cheese right off the shelf in the southern US. It was one of my grandma’s favorite foods.
I love pimento cheese with crackers or on a sandwitch. I buy it at the store everytime I go. 💀
🤮
I'm sure its really tasty. I'll look for it next time I'm down south
@@dreamkitty waa waa
@@dreamkitty please be respectfull of others taste of food, it might not look good for you but other people ate this when they where a child and felt hurt when they saw someone in the internet said it's disgusting, so please be respectful
Yo shoutout to Eden cheese
Eden cheese the best! Its just pure nostalgia. There aren't really any good alternatives here in the states so I have a little stockpile I got when I was in the PHL
Senyai???
Poor Eden, they used her to make cheese

Came to say the same 😂
Oh me too 👍
When I heard of cheese pimento, of course I thought of him lmao, and figured someone did too
Ooooooh it’s similar to Sandwich de Mezcla in a way. I’m Puerto Rican and grew up with that version. I would love to try this recipe out!!! Thank you for sharing this. It’s so cool to see different cultures take on different but similar cuisines. I really want one of those now 😂
Tip. If you do the Mezcla version ever use potted meat, not spam. Online recipes say spam but you need a spreadable canned meat. Jarred cheese sauce is usually cheese whiz.
Love mezcla!!!! Brings me back to my childhood!!! my mom and Tias would make us kids these! ❤❤❤
I was just about to mention Sandwiches de Mezcla!!!! They’re so popular here especially at outdoor daytime gatherings that I get sad I don’t actually like them and can’t enjoy them 😩
I just looked it up, and that definitely sounds like something jeanelle would like !! :))
When I was smaller I used to dislike sandwichitos de mezcla but now I love them. I haven't had them in forever 😭
This is a staple in the South! It’s taken me years to like though, because of the sweetness 😂 but the best I’ve ever had used cheddar cheese, shredded with minimal sugar. So so good!😊
I’m sorry… there’s supposed to be sugar in pimento cheese? I’ve had it before from a specialty cheese shop in Michigan, my southern ex used to make it (with way too much mayo), and I’ve made it on occasion, and I had no idea people put sugar in it. Can you speak to how sweet it normally is supposed to be?
@@janesays1278 you can also put jalapeños in the mix so it’s not sweet, it’s not supposed to have sugar not the way my mama makes it and she makes it old school
@@janesays1278 The sugar is one of those things that depended on how your Mama made it. Some people add sugar. It balances the saltiness of the cheese. I love it both ways, but it's gotta be homemade!!
Edit: love your username.
@@janesays1278 so I’m from North Carolina, so I can only speak to that style. It surprises me that sugar is used at all, since we normally don’t mix sweet in savory in spreads and “salad” items. But anyway 😂 it’s normally not a whole lot of sugar, but just enough that you can definitely taste it. I would say if you’re making a big batch like my granny made, it would probably be about a quarter cup? Sorry I’m not more exact, I never got the recipe cause I hated it so much 🫣
I’ve never had it be sweet before, just normal mayo, pimentos, and cheddar. My parents will add other peppers to make it spicier too. That being said, acid cuts sweetness so maybe try adding a touch of acid to yours, to combat the sweetness you’re tasting

The people from BetterCallSaul took your mom's recipe
"Nacho" stole it lol
A PIMENTO CHEESE SANDWICH! I love it already 😂😂
Right
waltuh
Basically lol 😅
My Appalachian grandma used to make hers with grated sweet onions, and I think she used a mix of Miracle Whip and Mayo (omitting the sugar because Miracle Whip adds the sweetness). I’m also pretty sure it was grated cheddar as the main cheese.
Caribbean here, we just call it cheese paste lol. It’s one of the most common things To make on occasions where you have to feed a lot of guests or simply to make a meal or snack 😊
Came here to say this
This is actually a long time staple in the American south. We probably got it from slavery though because history sucks.
A fellow Caribbean girl here. How do you make it where you from?
@@jessicamorales8177 it may differ but usually,
- grated cheese of your choice
- mayonnaise
- mustard
- about a teaspoon of garlic paste
- 1 ripe and unripe trinidadian pimento pepper
- grated carrot
- minced onion
- a bit of brown sugar or honey for taste
In trinidad we have green seasoning as a staple so some people add that as well but it's purely optional
@@tebteb4179 what she said 😂
I’m originally from Ohio but grew up in the south this is a staple in the south especially the spicy version with some saltine crackers it’s really good or like you made it as a grilled cheese sandwich
How did u survive
I live in Ohio (southeastern) and we have it in stores
@@CheezClubRBLX shit's good yo
Bro pimento spread is all over Ohio. Canned, jarred, at the deli, in the lunch meat area. Shit even my local butchers sell their own. Did you never notice?
Better on ritz than saltine crackers tbh
I'm from the South. I love pimento cheese.
We make a lot of it.
We use Cracker Barrel Extra Sharp Cheddar and Bama mayo. (I might try Kewpie mayo next). We add some garlic powder and a dash of Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce.
We put it in baked potatoes, grilled cheeses, cheeseburgers, on assorted crackers or plain white bread eaten cold.
We've even made it into a hot cheese dip.
I love 🧀. Period. 😄
As a puerto rican, this sandwich is a very popular appetizer for our family parties 🇵🇷

Pimento cheese is a Southern staple! But I am sooooo interested in trying this version of it! I'm excited to see how the flavors differ!
Grew up on this stuff from the South. My world changed when I tried it grilled. Yes, the buttered bread took it to new heights. Grown fo!KS grilled cheese sandwich😊
Pimento cheese sandwiches on potato bread with a glass of Tang have always been a staple when I visit my grandpa! They are so fun and easy to whip up, and you can change the flavor pretty easily depending on what cheese and seasonings you use.
On the potato bread 👏🏽 with some lays chips. May even grill cheese it out 😂
This was a staple in every filipino kid’s birthday that I went to back in the 90s. My lola used sweetened condensed milk to make the spread sweet and creamy. To make it extra special, the spread was sandwiched in 2 slices of rainbow colored bread. 😊😊
Puerto Rican here. We call this “sandwiches de mezcla” (mixed sandwiches). Some people use cheese whiz instead, depending on their budget. But this is a staple. When you have unexpected guests, whip this up. Cut it in small triangles and garnish if you want to be fancy. ❤

The best chefs never have measurements.
They feel it in their soul.
Pimento cheese is almost a core memory for me, it’s afternoons at my Nana’s kitchen table in the middle of the Texas summer.😊
Ughhh I live in the south but my parents are Irish and the day my mom’s coworkers introduced her to this and she brought it home 😩 never go without it again
Looks delish! This is similar to cheese paste made in Trinidad 🇹🇹
This is similar to a puertorican snack/party dish. The only difference is that we blend the cheese, pimientos and spam. It's super creamy, delicious and addictive.
Pimento cheese is really good. Its a staple amongst Southerners.😍🌸😉😊 I love it.
Girl really beating that jar like it owes her money 😂😂
Yes it is huge in Southern cuisine, I grew up on it!!
here in the PH there's also a version you can buy in the store, it's cheesewhiz pimiento
It's different from pimiento cheese whiz. This is sweeter and less smoother.
Cheese Pimiento was originally introduced in the Philippines from occupying American soldiers (who most of were from the southern U.S. where pimento cheese was already popular) due to U.S. colonization of the country until the Philippines finally gained independence.
Its called cheese paste in the Caribbean! and its the most popular snack for parties or to keep in the fridge for quick sandwich making!
why Hellman's censored lol? i thought she blurred all the brands but the cheese was visible
might be because it has the word "hell" in it, which could cause demonetisation
@@mysteryz0ne272TF?
Because it isn't Dukes? The southern US uses Dukes. If it is sweet, maybe they used Miracle Whip? (I had an in-law who thought Miracle Whip was better than mayo).
@@tyronedsouza youtube censors are fucked up fr (or tiktok's more likely but idk if she posts these there first)
Because using Hellmann's should be considered a hate crime. Duke's 4 life
Omg. I was looking away when you mentioned the Tang, then stopped what I was doing and watch it over again cause I thought you put the Tang IN the sandwich mixture 😂 love how I was honestly like "Huh?!?! Ok wait, don't judge. maybe it's good?"
Tang is a type of juice powder you can get orange pineapple and many more for anyone wondering
My mom is from the US south and still makes pimento cheese pretty regularly
Pimento and cheese was a staple in my family's southern home. I just made some the other day. This is how I like to make it which is only a slight variation of my grandmother's version.
Sharp cheddar grated medium or coarse
Mild cheddar fine shred (or the Mexican blend in fine shred)
Pimentos (not really drained just scoop out of the jar with a fork you want a little of the juice)
Onion powder to taste
Garlic powder to taste
Cayenne pepper to taste
Mayo (to taste)
Cottage cheese (also to taste. You don't want it dry but not soupy either.)
You want to go easy on the mayo and cottage cheese adding a little at a time till you get the consistency you're looking for.
I like mine with lots of cayenne and seasonings and cottage cheese and pimentos and just enough mayo to combine it well.
My grandmother used more mayo than I do and usually only used sharp cheddar and mild cheddar not the Mexican blend like I do and she didn't use as much pimentos as I do.
And I LOVE it on townhouse crackers with a top of hot sauce and a halved cherry tomato laid side by side.
Much better than on plain white bread fold overs like when I was a kid lol my mom loves using it for grilled cheeses specially when we have chili and veggies beef soup. She also likes putting in tortillas like a quesadilla for a snack. It's also really good in lettuce rolls. Lol we grew up having a batch of it in the fridge almost at all times specially in the summer so we tried it in all kinds of different ways.
In Yucatán we make "paté de pimiento" wich literally means what it is or pimento cheese. Is used as a filling for sandwichón, arrolladitos or just on a sandwich. One of my comfort lunches, hehehe 🥪
I’m from Rome, Georgia, this is a huge park of southern food. At every thanksgiving and Christmas meal so underrated as well ❤
Here in NC we love it you can even get it on biscuits
Here in Texas you can bye a small tub of pimento cheese. Its really good and I eat as a dip with chips.
I love how Jeanelle always has a story behind her foods and things like that it's just great I love her heritage and the way she is
thank you! this means a lot to me
Pimento cheese spread on crackers is a popular Superbowl snack for my family.
The way she described it like it was super exotic, I wasn’t prepared for it to be a pretty normal pimento cheese sandwich. I think everyone’s mom in the South made those.
I grew up in Michigan and used to eat pimento cheese like this! They sell it in every grocery store.
you know the food it's going to be amazing when there's no measurements ❤
That maybe very true, but I hated it when my older relatives give recipes with no measurements or tell me to eyeball it lol 😂! But the food will always be good though 🤤😋!
I grew up eating this in the southern U.S., but now when I periodically get a nostalgic craving, Whole Foods has a really good one (here in California!) with a second version that's a bit spicy... SO good!
Pimento cheese is a southern staple. You're hitting right in my Texan heart with that
Pimiento cheese is one of my all time favorites since I was little. Slap that on a toasted everything bagel, it's a wrap
Pimiento Cheese >>> Cardboard American Cheese
The real old recipes from all the wonderful foreign (to the u.s.) mommas and grandmas are never measured, and ALWAYS the best.
My dad introduced me to pimento cheese when I was little and it became one of my favorites. That spread onto Ritz crackers is one of my favorite snacks of all time no joke.
my dad loves this!!! he would keep a jar full of the magnolia cheesy spread and eat that on toast for breakfast
Did you learn that from Mike?
Lol my mom made sandwich the mescla... pimento moron + jamonilla + cheez whiz. Best sandwiches for school activities + birthday party + camping + everything 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷 traditions loved
As a Filipino I loved these but most of the time I only have it during wakes and funerals. Glad theres a cheese spread with pimiento flavor that exists rn.
Like a real mom, “no measurements.”
Your sister is gorgeous by the way.
I’m from the southeast part of Georgia and this is definitely a staple in the south. 🇺🇸
I personally love it on triscuits or with jalapeños/bacon crumbles, whatever ya want! 🥹❤
omg i love pimento cheese on a sandwich (i even use it on my ham/turkey sandwiches and it’s amazing, so gooey and flavorful) 🤤 (it’s also great with some pickled jalapeños and a little bit of hot honey which sounds lowkey gross lol but i promise it’s really good, at least to me)
This is just a pimento cheese sandwich lol I didn't know it was something fancy. I'm glad you like it though, I absolutely adore pimento cheese!
Nobody said it's fancy :p
@@aidangillard2041 i just said that because she portrayed it as something novel

Even though I'm Canadian, I can hear my southern brothers and sisters howling with laughter since it is my understanding _Pimento Cheese_ is practically in their DNA 😂
Southern person here. No its not. Some of us hate mayonnaise just as much as the Republican party if you can believe it
@@k10batmama I love your answer! 😊 Thank you. I get that impression about pimento cheese 'cus I've seen shows/videos where you can buy it pre-made in a store. It's that popular they can sell it.
Here in North Carolina it is so easy to buy that I've only had scratch home made twice in my life. Hated it when I was a kid, love it now that taste buds have grown up. I will have to try it grilled!

I'm a bit of a home cook, and from what I've seen on Southern cooking shows, it looks a little too mayonaise-y for my taste. I'd use less
..Speaking of mayo, I've seen a few southern cooks (I don't know which state/s) that SWEAR by 'Duke's brand)
pimento cheese is one of my favorites, especially on club crackers!! it’s very popular in the southern us, so i’ve grown up around it my whole life :)
We use pimiento to make our vegan cheese spread! So good!

Im Puerto Rican and We have this too! It’s made with cheese wiz though and pimentos in a jar like that. We cut the crusts off too and make them small like tea sandwiches and serve them at parties. We also had them with orange tang when we were younger. Omg! Memories 🥰

omg I remember as a kid the only cheese pimiento I know was the store bought one then my teacher in economics class taught us how to make one from scratch and never knew how good it was!! Now I make it every now and then and became a staple in my home.
I’m from Ky and this is a staple food here and one of my favorites! But I’ve NVR seen it made this way, we use a chunkier cheese and no honey.
in the south we call it “pimenna cheese”
This reminded me of the sandwiches served at lunch at my HS in the Philippines. That was the only time I’ve had it. Thanks for the recipe.
I never knew what pimento cheese was made out of or where it came from. But my great grandmother used to make these for me and my siblings and I hated it. But it always reminds me of her so now I technically love it 😂😂
Very common in Puerto Rico when I was growing up. We got it from the USA. It is also a staple in certain areas in Mexico where they even do a “cake” version: sandwiches in a mold and the covered with more cheese blend.
Pimiento cheese is wonderful. I agree with your mom. I measure with my heart. I don't think my mother or grandmother measured recipes exactly either. A cup could be Aunt Susie's tea cup or cousin Betty's mug. Flour came from a big bin in the sideboard that you sifted directly into a big bowl. The food was always amazing so measuring with your heart is a good way to cook.
