First of all this is good one. One suggestion to the audience is that don't read a book for that matter any book with assumption that it will change your life i.e. start without expectation because you only pick those words that satisfies you and your learning will be narrowed down. Start with no expectation and go slow and try to observe them practically.

i would suggest to read sri ramakrishna kathamrita or the gospel of sri ramakrishna for beginners before entering core shastras.. reading sri ramakrishna kathamrita helped me to understand gita, bhagavat, upanishads much better.. otherwise different kind of intepretations of the text seem confusing at first.. but if one reads sri ramakrishna kathamrita, one will see there's actually no difference... it contains bhagavan sri ramakrishna's daily conversation, but those conversation contains the real soul of all spiritual wisdom.. if one gets essence of that.. one will develop the iq or medha required to understand shastras...

I think the best way to developing philosophical thoughts or attitude is to meditate on human suffering and human stupidity. Its in the understanding of one's weaknesses that strength can be molded. Dedication, sincerity and love for all living things including the plant life build philosophy in your mind. Listening to the Indian classical music too builds character.

11:51 that book is a sanitised version of the gita. It goes great lengths to remove the misogyny and casteism from the gita. Read gita press’s English translation instead.
I think it is interpretation difference .I don't know about English translation but I don't find misogyny in gita (Gita press's gujrati translation). I read it every day. Even that one is not exact translation of gita but an interpretation from Sanskrit.
@@silverghost5752 well I'm not sure but I think he/she is talking about that verse where Krishna says that all beings of 'lower birth' can attain the moksha or mukti by devoting themselves to Krishna As far as I know, we do find the mention of the type of people Krishna is talking about and there is a mention of women there But here's how I think things have been misunderstood... Krishna was referring to the naivety of the society by mentioning 'lower birth' that is this is how society looks at them... But Krishna is saying "no matter what the society calls you.. the people from the so-called 'lower birth' can come to me because all are on the same level in my eyes. I give equal opportunities to everyone" So basically he himself wasn't calling anyone from 'lower birth'. Instead, he was criticizing the societal norms and defying them and welcoming all people from all spheres of society. This is how this beautiful verse must have been misunderstood
@namah4399 Some interpreters have termed this particular verse as supporting the casteist hierarchy. Others, however, hold that it supports a hierarchy based on profession and innate qualities (gunas) as opposed to birth. Sri Aurobindo gives the most rational explanation I have read so far on this subject in his Essays on the Gita. Thanks for the pointer.
