Please be careful before purchasing guys. My mom is Mexican. I looked into getting dual citizenship (American + Mexican) for the exact reason of buying/investing on property in Baja. Please do extensive research. From the little I know, foreigners can only "lease" land for 100 yrs therefore, you can't leave it to your kids. There is also restrictions, something like 100 miles from beach front property or national borders (Guatemala/US) . There are so many documented stories of Americans "buying" then investing thousands of dollars only for the government to later come in and say "oh sorry, this is illegal" you have to vacate. Please please please be careful. I've lived in Sonora, Mexico. I have family there in Ensenada . I'm fluent is Spanish. I have seen first hand how corrupt attorneys, and all local government officials (all offices) may be. If you're going to purchase don't do it in Baja, go mainland. Make sure you have an absolute perfect interpreter. Not a "Spanglish" person that speaks understand basic intermediate Spanish. You need someone good to look after your interest, that can advocate for you and ask all of the right questions. To ask the questions that you didn't even think you needed to ask. Love you both. God speed. Hope all goes well for you.
^^this. One of the many reasons why I would never move/buy land in a country I wasn’t born in because other countries really don’t like foreigners
Good advice but Baja is not all bad. One other thing is Americans can get Mexican citizenship and buy property. You need two years residency first I think. Then if you take some exams can apply for citizenship and have dual citizenship.
Hello, fellow Mexican mom child too lol it's kind of sad how people take the land from the people who are native and leave them not being able to afford living in their own home. Please tell me your thoughts. It's so complicated and just feels wrong if I'm honest:(
@@perkycurlyfries I 1000% agree with your comment, I love Eamon and Bec but I’m disappointed in their participation in the gentrification and diaspora of Mexicans. If THEY think over a million USD is expensive, imagine being Mexican and earning pesos… they will never be able to afford it, they can’t even dream about that… & it’s ONLY that price because of all the foreigners buying up land and making the prices go up. And a lot of foreigners are only using these homes for vacation homes, they already have homes in their country and are ruining peoples lives so they can have a vacation home part of the year and escape the cold. It’s modern day colonization. I’ve noticed some Mexicans are starting to hate foreigners because of this, especially in places that have large expat populations like CDMX, and violent crime against foreigners is going up. It’s so sad to see people affected so negatively by foreigners, especially when a lot of those foreigners are from a country that literally built a wall to keep THEM out of their country.
CAUSE IT IS ILEGAL !!!! 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ FS !!!! STOP GENTRIFICATION SERIOUSLY
I do have to say that gentrification in Mexico is a real problem. Real estate is going up because of foreigners buying property there, making it impossible for locals to buy their own homes and driving up the cost of living for them. We need to be able to make more conscious decisions and think beyond our own interests. No hate here, this is just a topic that I consider to be sensitive but still overlooked by citizens from Canada, US and rich countries in Europe.
Agree! It hurts natives because they are priced out from buying property from their home country. And I know it’s an escape from the harsh Canadian winter but it may still stay vacant for some months. So I’m a little torn & unfortunately won’t be watching this channel anymore. I wish them the best & I hope future success. But please everyone educate yourself about the gentrification of Mexico and many other “underdeveloped” countries.
Unfortunately even parts of the US their are areas that have this problem as well. I totally understand your point. Is there a solution that could benefit both parties?
Agreed. No one cares about the locals. I wish more people would speak about the damage they are doing.
Yes, I am Mexican, I love my country and it is so sad to see the people who built and care for the places foreigners love be displaced. It's happening all over Mexico, to indigenous and mestizo populations alike. We're losing our culture and our heritage. We can't compete with the disparity of wages and currency. Also the corruption and greed around real estate in beaches is disgusting. Displacements of locals by developers can involve violence, coercion and fraud... And let's not even mention the environmental impact, encroaching on biodiversity habitat for a vacation home...
Yes, stay at a locally-owned lodge and eat at locally-owned restaurants. Support locally-owned businesses. Avoid Airbnb's that take homes away from locals.
Hi Eamon & Bec, I am so happy for you both after everything you've been through. I am very excited you are both spending time in Mexico and showing a different side of the country than most other people see.
I am from Mexico (and also a US citizen) and just want to bring something to the table. It is very easy for Canadians & Americans to come into Mexico with a van, explore and maybe even buy property. I hope as you go through this journey you can also highlight that Mexicans don't have this privilege in the US or Canada - we can't drive in with a van and decide to buy property and stay however long we want (not even touching on the elements of finding work). I hope you are aware of how you might also contribute to driving up property prices, etc. For your FYI there used to be rules that only Mexican citizens could buy beachfront property, something that has changed as more Americans have put pressure on "growing the real estate market." Did you know there are now 1.6 million Americans living in Mexico often as digital nomads? Did you know that in order for Mexicans just to visit the US / Canada as tourists they must pay very expensive visas, often wait years, and very often get tourist visas denied? Are you planning on getting Mexican citizenship? Paying taxes?
I hope you consider being aware of how you can contribute back to the community and celebrate local culture so this doesn't get lost as more people come from outside. I would encourage you to learn Spanish or other local dialects and use your platform to showcase these to your audience.
Love your comment. Fellow Mexican and I’m not to happy to see how my town is full of Americans and driving the prices up like crazy, in every area.
I feel so bad for them and I hope this doesn’t make them feel like we are attacking them, but I agree with everything you just said
The problem in Peru is illegal gringos come and rent all the cheap places and sublet them for 6 × the normal rents. If something goes wrong they demand the owner pay for repairs. The illegals live high and contribute nothing to the economy. Now the Indigenous are building on the farm lands to make money. And they can't live in their own. Houses or eat properly because they can't farm.
Have been a loyal follower through think and thin I know there are good intentions behind, but please STOP GENTRIFICATION Americans and Canadians come here saying "Oh wow so cheap" badly enough even trying to get sellers to go low on prices, please dont do that be respectful. It's sad to say that most of people in 2023 can't afford a piece of land in their own country because of gentrification it's not like we get to buy vans/plane tickets/ then property in the USA/Canada that easy its a freaking joke they make us pay them for visas and go through paperwork here you are received with open arms. Be respectful, pay FULL price of whatever that's the least you can do.
Thank you for this comment. I’m also Mexican (living in Mexico City). The impact gentrification is having in my city is UNREAL. The displacement of locals, language, rent, treatment of people, the list could go on and on and on. Gentrification can also break down the social fabric of a country. As it was mentioned in the comment above, I truly hope you guys do things right. Pay taxes, encourage the creation of jobs in Baja California and Mexico, learn the language, avoid the “it’s so cheap to live here” mentality as it is NOT cheap for us to make a living in our HOME country. It is a sensitive subject as it is having so many negative repercussions for so many people. If you’re going to buy property, I hope you do our country right.
There are many ethical questions posted in the comments, and I trust you two to consider them and move forward appropriately. You guys can really influence the conversation and culture of previous tourists becoming residents and how to do that ethically. I hope things work out well for you guys. I’m excited to see you take all this into consideration and make the places you move to better because you were there.
Yes it awful that tourists pump so much money into less well off areas of Mexico. They should stop visiting altogether and spend their money in the US and Canada instead. Mexicans should stop moving to the US also.
Well they didn't listen to people when they did their "cabin"
@@sdHansy what was wrong with their cabin?!
@@sdHansy Millennials, especially like Eamon, listen to no one. They just trample all over everyone and are accountable for nothing.
who cares. they can live anywhere they want.
I LOVE Bec's curls! They suit her so well! I hope the house serves you well.
They both look 💯 better with the updated short hair 👏 🤝
WE'RE SO EXCITED TO SHARE THIS WITH ALL OF YOU!!! AHHHHHH!!! WHAT DO YOU THINK?!?!?!
Wowwwwzers!! Y’all seem so happy there.
I’m loving the curls bec
best thing evaaaahhhhhh, so jellyyyyy!
Love it love it love it!! They WILL accept your offer, no worries! Can't wait to be with you on your new property!!
i think you should build a new house, it ensures the build quality you feel safe to put a child in. you will also get a lot of content when building the house. any how i will follow what ever you guys decide to do
As a long time follower, I would love to hear your response to the comments about gentrification and citizenship. You guys have always seemed to be very culturally aware of the places you visit and I think people are wondering if you are aware of the impact foreigners buying property has on locals.
Me too. I really like these two but it’s odd that they even seem to be avoiding these comments. As I commented above, half my family are born & raised Mexicans, many still residing there. It’s hard to see privileged people spending so so much on land/homes here especially when they said all those friends of theirs want to do the same. I know gentrification is hard to avoid and sometimes even makes an area better but ultimately I’m gonna side with native people being able to afford their own countries and hometowns.
@@DuffyGabi wow that’s a very cold hard truth right there. Well said! This even reminds me to be more aware and conscious of who I want to be every day, too!
I believe they do care about others, but like most people they want what they want so will likely put themselves first and they can afford to do it. Same think with traveling influencers that say they are environmentalists, but jetting somewhere every week or so.
Good grief - As a human, they have the right to live any where they choose, as it is for others. Gentrification is happening EVERYWHERE. This happens ALL THE TIME whenever someone moves farther from a city center.
So what you’re saying is that they shouldn’t buy property because it’s raising the cost-of-living for the residents. That’s ridiculous. Perhaps the country or area, should improve their economy. Pay a decent wage for instance would be a start. Why in the world would it be Eamon and Bec’s problem?
They never do, do they? They seem to respond to and leave ,"like" on the very positive comments though
The property costs are rising because of non-naties moving to the land, there is nothing wrong with this but the issue is that it is pricing out locals, these locals also do not have a privilege to drive and live half the year in the USA or Canada. This is a huge problem and can lead to more corruption and a dilution of the local culture, customs and traditions. I hope you guys are considering all of this, i know you will do your best to be respectful.
Bec, your hair looks so beautiful with all those cute curls ❤
Thank you so much ☺
i noticed that too, didnt she used to have straight hair? are these post chemo curls? looks great
I love it!!! This is so E & B…bring on Mexico 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
Hahah you know us so well Danesha!!! Thanks for all your love and support over the years 🤗
You really need to check with a real estate lawyer BEFORE you buy. Mexico used to have laws prohibiting foreigners owning land close to the ocean. Unless that has changed, buying along the coast in Mexico could be very risky. I remember when the government came into Puerto Peñasco (at the north end of the sea of Cortes), and confiscated a bunch of properties owned by foreigners. Real estate agents will never tell you about the law (and whether or not you can legally own a property). They just want to make a sale. And just because others have bought and haven't had their property confiscated, doesn't mean that it couldn't happen in the future. Know your risks before you jump.
100% agree, often locals get tricked into selling the property but it might be their name still on the deed.
I've been a follower for years and I find your story and your spirits inspiring. It's disheartening, however, to scroll through the comments today and see the top 5 comments ignored when the comments are about gentrification. Then when you get to the 6th top comment and it's praising your story, that is where you start to see EamonandBec's channel responding with likes. And they responded to the 7th and 8th and a couple others too. As always, you have interacted with fans in the comments, (appreciated) but have purposefully ignored very valid comments, (that viewers have written still with respect to you as people and respect to the situation as they see it, they are not attacking your decision senselessly) I would like to see a response from this channel ❤With love and understanding
This is so exciting for you! It was lovely to see you work in the cabin in Canada, and I’m sure you’ll be driving back and forth between Mexico and Canada quite a bit! Enjoying both the lake and beach vibes
Best of both worlds if it works out!
We also moved from Calgary to Merida Yucatan, we love it here, no snow to move from the driveway, no cold, great food, we ain't returning to Canada except to visit our parents
Why? Go home your place is amazing
Why? Go home your place is amazing
What a perfect decision. "We feel more happy and alive" U2 and Oso so deserve warmth and sand. And near Todos 💗
Eaman sounds so incredibly privileged talking about the beach-front property and the complaints surrounding the "indoor-outdoor" feel. I can't imagine seriously considering million dollar properties and then building a home to your specs but complaining about every detail along the way. "There's an rv park which I don't love", aren't you living in a car? Basically a small rv? jeez
The rule books say only Mexican citizens can buy property. So foreigners with visas can buy land leases, and can sell it as a land lease but until full citizenship, no full ownership. So if your visa access is blocked for whatever reason, you can't access your "owned home". SO how did you get around those rules? My friend aged 70 is determined he will move there from Canada and build something to live out his life in. He is sure it's free healthcare for all, but that's not what official sites say. So do tell us viewers.
Omg absolutely unexpected turn of events. And I am glad to see Bec so healthy and happy looking. A bit of the weight gaining looks perfect. And finally she smiles a lot. It’s a real sign that she is back on track. And her lovely speech about babies... oh. Wish u guys the best! I am sure u gonna find a perfect place! ❤
Love Tobias for straight out saying "structural."
I know it seems unavoidable wherever you look…but as someone who has family that consists of native Mexicans (over half of my family)…it’s just hard/disappointing to see more people contribute to gentrification because one home isn’t enough. Makes me sad.
I just feel like influencers are so far removed…idk. I watch this channel a lot but this surprised me.
Not sure what the solution is. If there isn’t one, that’s bleak.
Everytime a human being exercised their natural human right to move anywhere on the planet they desire, out comes the busy bodies, the central planners, the fascists who think they know better how best to live the lives of their fellow humans, they invent different identity groups to divide, invent words like "gentrification" and promote centralized corrupt government control instead of freedom and diversity which they claim to idolize, the solution you desire is called a 15 minute city/ concentration camp where everyone has a cell and a cubicle job and is only "allowed" to travel between the two places like a good little tax slave and they are coming to a city near you very shortly, at first they will be touted as voluntary then some time later the "climate lockdowns" will begin, this is all because weak minded people trust and love authoritarian government more than freedom
@@jayboog5000 I hear you for sure actually….but I still feel that this is an issue too. I actually do not personally prefer strong centralized government and (as I stated) am not really sure what the answer is, and wish you wouldn’t assume that. :)
Maybe the solution if for Mexicans to stop moving to America for a better life and other nationalities can stop moving to Canada for a better life? Would that work for you?
@@BarryBulsara576 as I stated, I am not really sure what the answer is but it sucks to see (in any area). ❤️
Video starting with “we love the people and culture” they are sitting with non Mexicans speaking English…. This is really frustrating
Such a exciting new chapter! I really feel like the vibes connect beautifully with you two there in Mexico and on the property. All the best with the Renos if/ when your offer is accepted! Thankful as always for allowing us all to come along on your journey through the lens x
Bec, PLEASE make sure you follow the Canadian guidelines to how long you can be out of the country before you lose your health care. 🙏
So excited for this new journey!!
One note on mango trees! We used to have one in front of our home in Venezuela but it had to be cut down. they LOVE water so it’s common for the roots to break into pipes and sewer. Mango roots/trees have literally toppled over homes. So just be sure of distance between trees and home/pipes if you choose to plant/have any on your new property 🎉
Where in Venezuela?
We are unconscious when we are asleep or fainted.
When we are unconscious, we have no thoughts, no emotions, and cannot see the world.
When we are conscious, we know everything. Consciousness is thoughts, emotions, and everything in the world.
This consciousness is one.
Will consciousness be split in two? Consciousness is not divisible.
Do you feel two consciousnesses when talking to a friend? Consciousness is felt only as one.
Consciousness is one. I am Conscious and I am the World.
Gospel of Thomas
"For many of the first will be last, and will become a single one."
Jesus said, "Two will recline on a couch; one will die, one will live."
"For this reason I say, if one is whole, one will be filled with light, but if one is divided, one will be filled with darkness."
Jesus said, "Why do you wash the outside of the cup?
Don't you understand that the one who made the inside is also the one who made the outside?"
Jesus said, "I am the light that is over all things. I am all: from me all came forth, and to me all attained.
Split a piece of wood; I am there.
Lift up the stone, and you will find me there."
A [person said] to him, "Tell my brothers to divide my father's possessions with me."
He said to the person, "Mister, who made me a divider?"
He turned to his disciples and said to them, "I'm not a divider, am I?"
We have to cut our mango tree this year because it got too big on our property (patio)! It was supposed to stay small but it grew too much. So sad it will be gone!

The experienced old crone in me says, slow down, take it easy. There have been some great comments about the issues of wealthy white people buying land and impacting local residents negatively. My advice: rent something nice for a time, see if you really love it, and it will give you a chance to make an ethical and anti-colonial decision about real estate purchases. Best luck to finding the best path for you and others.

It is great that you chose México, the list of why people move there is endless. Is such a pride to know foreigners love my country;however, while tourists investing is good, it is unfortunate that living cost for natives living there can increase due to the popularity of the town. Just look at San Miguel de Allende or Santa Fé. I still appreciate you enjoying this culture enough to want to live there.

Thanks so much you two!!
I think y’all are amazing but have you thought about the implications of vacation homes in Mexico? Or really anywhere? The effects on native peoples?
All the best, you guys. Whatever you decide, I'll watch and cheer for you!
It's been a while since I've tuned in. So incredibly happy to see Bec healthy and both of you happy! Good luck in your new adventure!!!
After all your time in Baja, I figured you would end up in El Pescadero.
The town has been taken over by foreigners. Prices are rising. The small farms of tomatoes and peppers have almost disappeared in the last 2 years. There goes the neighborhood.
Most homes are mansions owned by people from California.
People say they want to move to Mexico for a simple lifestyle and then build outrageous homes.
As much as I love this area, the charm is fading fast.
When you first announced you were moving to Mexico, a loud “noooooooo!” escaped from my mouth. I have loved watching your cabin videos - probably because I’m Canadian and grew up in the country. So I’m glad that part of your life won’t completely stop!! Excited to watch your Mexico journey but miss your cabin home! Isn’t strange how you can feel so connected watching videos??
SAME!
I am so pleased that thing are working out so perfectly for you both, you deserve every happiness
I am so happy for you guys, especially since what you have gone through the last couple years
