Call me biased. But everything Thom Yorke even touches, belongs in my music collection. One of the few (widely known) artists that keeps bringing fresh & original tracks. So, so much respect for Thom!
Personally of all the radioheadisc I mean Tom York stuff to test headphones I would probably use dropped or stuck together. And then you can use anything on anima.
My god on Saturday he played this live in San Francisco, and holy shit this song kicks ass...The energy behind his live performances of this is unreal...
When this song came on at the Philly show I nearly shit myself from how disgusting this beat is live. Phenomenal how much it transforms from the studio to a set.
Same, also play his 'Hearing Damage' tune it's got a different range, feels like it hits all the parts of the ear that hasn't been damaged over the years ;)
if thom wanted to, he could make catchy pop tunes that everyone would love. but instead he crosses in to new modes of song writing, that only a person who is very, very talented could pull off. really, it is quite amazing that he can keep the integrity of his goals in music while knowing the amount of people who aren't musically patient or smart enough to realise how good it is. props to him.
[Verse 1] It slipped my mind And for a time I felt completely free A world of trouble Silent double A pawn unto a queen [Chorus] I laugh now But later's not so easy I've gotta stop The will is strong But the flesh is weak I guess that's it I've made my bed And I lie in it [Verse 2] I'm still hanging on Bird upon a wire I fall between the waves Ooooohhhhhhh I avoid your gaze I turn out of phase A pawn unto a queen Ooooohhhhhhh [Chorus] I laugh now But later's not so easy I've gotta stop The will is strong But the flesh is weak I guess that's it I've made my bed And I lie in it [Outro] But it's eating me up It's eating me up It's eating me up (If I get free of all my snares and my nets) It's eating me up (If I get free of all my snares and my nets) It's eating me up (If I get free of all my snares and my nets) Ooooohhhhhhh
Thom Yorke's vocal hit a track and it turns golden. His voice just has so much history it's instant nostalgia every time. Everything he touches turns Ampexian.

When I was coming back from New York to Munich I was listening to this song like 35 times in Lufthansa plain, right above the ocean, and everytime I hear it Im still there, above the big water...:)
Thom Yorke has provided me with my favorite music since pablo honey to now. Dare I say it, but anything that's came from him since amnesiac has blew my mind. How do you thank some one for a service like that? Guess all I can do is keep buying the music and walking fast to it.
Glad you brought that up it’s great for walking forward walking in a big city like New York or London or HongKong where have been recently especially New York where people walk quickly anyway which is my default speeds
The lyrics are also very well written. Love the "I've got to stop. The will is strong, but the flesh is weak. Guess that's it". I imagine many people feel this way about getting older; some day we're all just too old and weak to carry on, even if our minds - hopefully - are still strong.
"I gotta stop. The will is strong, but the flesh is weak. Guess that's it. I've made my bed, I'm writhing in it." Spiral of my life, I love his lyrics. If I hadn't been so depressed all the time I guess I'd never heard his songs. So that's something:)
i wish a song like this could get airplay around where i live. Being near 30, its weird growing up and watching our sensibilities as a society when it comes to music and art, become increasingly easier to offend. i was always lead to believe that progression was imminent.
just realized some 9 years later that this song is about the feeling of defaulting on a loan, like an auto loan or home mortgage. “it slipped my mind” ie the payment, or obligation of the loan. “and for a time I felt completely free” trust me, if you can forget about your mortgage payment only for a second, the freedom is beautiful. “I made my bed, I lie in it” ie it’s all your own doing, nobody forced you into the loan/mortgage. “and it’s eating me up” the thought of defaulting on a loan will consume your mind and soul. it’s amazing because, this word has affected so many lives in history. the amount of time men have not been able to pay back a debt, for whatever reason, is innumerable. you can spend 15 years of your life paying off a mortgage, only to get sick or lose your income in the 16th, and lose everything. and let me tell you, 15 years of someone’s life is a lot of years! it makes sense why people rent, or use public transportation to get around. what a wild world. I wonder if Thom Yorke ever defaulted on something. if he did and managed to write this song about it, then that’s truly a remarkable achievement.
I also agree with what you are saying about some people being gifted for expressing themselves through music. Some artists just know the right little details to add; to flourish at just the right bit or hold back in others and I believe Radiohead to be among the best. Just listening to their cover versions, I feel confirms that. Like the song Union City Blue by Blondie... Or the Bond song Nobody Does It Better. The Radiohead covers of those really bring those songs to life.
Goddamn, Thom did it again.. I honestly didn't expect this direction to be taken by AFP. VERY happy the album sounds the way it does.. it's mixed so wonderfully..
My mom thinks I'm weird because I blast this song in my room every morning along with JJE, but she just doesn't understand the beauty of beat machines and Thom Yorke like I do.
This song just reminded me why I love Thom Yorke and Radiohead as artists. For me, Radiohead is the greatest band of all time - they completely changed my perception of music as an art form. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are not so bad either.
This song is so beautiful. Can't wait for the Exit festival to hear it live... Always admired Thom Yorke, his work and his voice and this song nears to what I consider perfect... just beautiful.
soo good the echo on the vocals with that weird bell effect in the chorus really sets this song off...i think the chorus really takes ahold of you as well...all in all a beautiful and powerful melody
equalibrioception jack pitman oh my god, i've just realized that while i was listening to this song i suddenly started to make my bed... this song is fucking hypnotic
Oh, and btw, I happen to really like this song and think Thom Yorke is a supremely talented genius who, alone or with Radiohead or another project, has made some incredible art. Not that anyone asked...
From a musical perspective this song is so lush and relaxing. The chord progression is memorizing. But sometimes i just want to listen to a song where i dont have to analyze everything and be in a certain mood to listen to.
Thom's beats get more and more dope over time
2024 and this song still sounds like it belongs in the future, good shit thom
this is one of the best songs I've ever heard.
Right
Me too, especially when keyboard comes in
Thom Yorke and Flea in the same band is already amazing.
Call me biased. But everything Thom Yorke even touches, belongs in my music collection. One of the few (widely known) artists that keeps bringing fresh & original tracks. So, so much respect for Thom!
Yeah i agree. Thom could shit in a cup and I'd find art in it
@@anteaters-R-us HUH
So Thom Yorkes cheeseburger is in your music collection :0
Biased
pop is dead?
This is an amazing song. I can't believe Thom Yorke found such a wonderful melody in this very complex chord progression.
I know WTF. It's the last thing you expect but it fits perfectly.
a friend; a guitarist with a lot of talents.. (don't have to say a name)... together it's fits like ying/yang
Whenever I get new headphones I listen to this to test the quality.
Same here. Just purchased a pair and it’s what I’m doing as I write this.
Too right!
how can you tell that it's good?
This is only good at testing imaging and potentially stereo I wouldn't use it for any other thing.
Personally of all the radioheadisc I mean Tom York stuff to test headphones I would probably use dropped or stuck together. And then you can use anything on anima.

I feel like this is pretty much the greatest song ever recorded.
I think it could possibly be my favourite song ever 🎶
I think I agree. Sublime 🤍
[Verse 1]
It slipped my mind
And for a time
I felt completely free
A world of trouble
Silent double
A pawn unto a queen
[Chorus]
I laugh now
But later's not so easy
I've gotta stop
The will is strong
But the flesh is weak
I guess that's it
I've made my bed
And I lie in it
[Verse 2]
I'm still hanging on
Bird upon a wire
I fall between the waves
Ooooohhhhhhh
I avoid your gaze
I turn out of phase
A pawn unto a queen
Ooooohhhhhhh
[Chorus]
I laugh now
But later's not so easy
I've gotta stop
The will is strong
But the flesh is weak
I guess that's it
I've made my bed
And I lie in it
[Outro]
But it's eating me up
It's eating me up
It's eating me up (If I get free of all my snares and my nets)
It's eating me up (If I get free of all my snares and my nets)
It's eating me up (If I get free of all my snares and my nets)

I cant decide whether the video to this song is satisfying or un-satisfying.

That's a great memory to have
First heard this song in an episode of CSI, and now I can't stop listening to it. Amazing!!
Some days this video is the most satisfying video to watch, on others the most frustrating.
If I could be trapped inside a song, it'd be this one
Try tripping with the mindset of being trapped inside a song and it's gonna be a wonderful experience
