  • I got this GPSMap 60 CSx for $4 at an estate sale. Why so cheap? The batteries were corroded- but it still turned on! There's a fair amount of damage, but it's neutralized and the unit still works.

    Good video repair.
Hope you get to build your QDX v3. I have built both the v1 with Raspberry Pi 4B and also built the QRPlabs 50w PA which I use with the QDX v3 that has the PTT option. It works brilliantly and gives me a good 20watts output when supplied with 12 to 13v which I find works comfortably on 20m FT8 FT4 and pulls just under 3 amps and on a standard car battery or S3 Lipo pack. I am also a keen EFHW user having built about 10versions. My main QTH version is an inverted V 80m length version and I also have a 40m length version in the opposite direction.
Good luck at your new QTH and hope you have an active local Ham club.

Soak the back plate and the battery contacts in baking soda and vinegar. That will neutralize the acid, and clean everything with warm soapy water. Baking soda needs an acid to activate. then I would look for a silver or chrome based paint pen (make sure it contains metal ) and paint the contacts. The acid will keep eating at the plastic and the metal the way you've done it. Not trying to be one of those "You did it wrong" people, but I've had to deal with issues like this many times. and I've learned from experience that it will keep eating at the plastics and metals. Hat to see you need to do another repair later. Having said that this could give you quite a few years before it tanks! Good video though!!
